Abstract

Background: Bimaxillary dental protrusion accompanied by crowding is a case of malocclusion which has high prevalence in the Asian region. Treatment of bimaxillary dental protrusion accompanied crowding case generally involves the extraction of four firat premolar to obtain the space required to correct crowding and retraction of the anterior teeth. Objective: This case report explain about the treatment of bimaxillary dental protrusion accompanied by severe crowding. Case: The patient has a convex soft tissue pofile, bimaxillary dental protrusion accompanied by severe crowding. Case treatment: Treatment begins with extracting the four first premolar to create space, so that the anterior crowding can be repositioned properly. The anterior retraction is performed to correct the convex facial profile. After 20 months of treatment, the patient’s occlusion and aesthetics improved. Conclusion: An appropriate treatment plan is very necessary for the treatment of bimaxillary dental protrusion accompanied by severe crowding to obtain maximum treatment results

Abstract

Background: Treatment of bimaxillary dental protrusion accompanied crowding case generally involves the extraction of four first premolar to obtain the space required to correct crowding and retraction of the anterior teeth.  Additional anchorage is essential to prevent the posterior teeth from shifting during the correction process, ensuring that the space obtained from premolar extractions is fully utilized for anterior tooth retraction. Objective: This case report explain the treatment of a bimaxillary dental protrusion accompanied by severe dental crowding using additional anchorage. Case: The patient has a convex soft tissue profile, bimaxillary dental protrusion accompanied by severe crowding. The treatment included extracting all first premolars to create adequate space, followed by orthodontic repositioning of the anterior crowding in both arches. Supplementary anchorage was applied during the anterior retraction phase. After 20 months of treatment, the patient showed significant improvements in occlusion and aesthetics. Conclusion: To achieve appropriate space closure after extraction in accordance with the treatment plan, a correct strategy for controlling anchorage is required.

Abstract

Background: Malocclusion is one of the most common oral health problems in Indonesia. Characteristics of malocclusion that can be identified in the anterior teeth include crowding, protrusion, diastema, deep bite, and others. Malocclusion can affect masticatory function, disrupt aesthetics, and influence psychological and social aspects of life. The measurement of the impact of anterior malocclusion characteristics on psychosocial status can be determined using a questionnaire method called the Psychosocial Impact of Dental Aesthetic Questionnaire (PIDAQ). Objective: To determine the relationship between the characteristics of anterior teeth malocclusion and psychosocial status based on PIDAQ among patients at the Orthodontic Clinic RSGM-P FKG Universitas Trisakti. Method: This study is analytical observational research with a cross-sectional design. The sample is patients at the Orthodontic Clinic of the RSGM-P FKG Universitas Trisakti, selected using a consecutive technique. The instrument used was the PIDAQ questionnaire. The collected data were then analyzed through univariate and bivariate analysis using software. Results: The psychosocial status of patients at the Orthodontic Clinic RSGM-P FKG Universitas Trisakti, regarding the characteristics of anterior teeth malocclusion, based on PIDAQ, categorized as good psychosocial status at 51.5%. The results of the contingency coefficient correlation test showed p value=0.846 and a correlation value of 0.333, showing a positive correlation with a weak correlation strength and no clinical significance. Conclusion: The study indicates no correlation between the characteristics of anterior teeth malocclusion and psychosocial status among patients at the Orthodontic Clinic of RSGM-P FKG Universitas Trisakti

Abstract

Background: The self-confidence of adolescent girls is frequently influenced by their physical appearance, particularly the aesthetic condition of their teeth. Consequently, fixed orthodontic treatment may contribute to enhancing their self-esteem. Objectives: To examine the difference in self-confidence levels between adolescent girls who have undergone fixed orthodontic treatment and those who have not undergone fixed orthodontic treatment at SMA Negeri 42 Jakarta. Methods: A comparative analytical observational study with a cross-sectional design was conducted, involving 70 female students. The participants were divided into two groups: those who had undergone fixed orthodontic treatment for a minimum duration of one year and those who had not. Self-esteem was evaluated using the PIDAQ questionnaire, focusing on the DSC component. Data analysis was carried out using univariate and bivariate statistical methods with SPSS. Results: The statistical analysis revealed a significant difference between the two groups (p < 0.05), suggesting that fixed orthodontic treatment positively influences adolescent girls' self-confidence with regard to dental aesthetics. Conclusion: Female students who have undergone fixed orthodontic treatment show different self-confidence levels than students who have not, based on the PIDAQ index.
