Abstract

Abstract. The phenomenon of celebirty worship of Korean idols has become an important part of today's popular culture, especially in adolescence and emerging adulthood. One of the South Korean boy groups that is currently popular and much loved is SEVENTEEN. Every fan has varying levels of engagement with their idols, ranging from admiration to obsession that can affect daily life. One factor that is thought to have a significant role in the onset of celebrity worship is self-esteem. This study aims to determine the effect of self-esteem on celebrity worship in Seventeen boy group fans in Bandung City. This research is a quantitative research with causality method. The measuring instruments used are the Celebrity Attitude Scale (CAS) which has been adapted by Efathania & Aisyah (2019) and the Rosenberg Self-esteem Scale (RSE) adapted by Nelan Maroqi (2018). The subjects of this study were Seventeen boy group fans aged 18-29 years and domiciled in Bandung City with the number of respondents obtained as many as 311. This research hypothesis test uses simple linear regression analysis and the results obtained show that there is a negative effect of self-esteem on celebrity worship with a significance value of 0.002 <0.05, which means that low self-esteem will result in high celebrity worship, and vice versa. The magnitude of the influence of self-esteem on celebrity worship is 2.9%. This finding indicates that self-esteem can influence celebrity worship but the contribution is relatively small. With the development of technology, especially social media, it also affects the way individuals interact, share information, and form perceptions about themselves and the environment around them. The development of social media also provides new challenges, one of which is the FoMO phenomenon. One social media that has the potential to trigger FoMO behavior is Instagram. This study aims to find out how much influence FoMO has on Psychological Well-Being in university students in Bandung City. Using quantitative methods with 319 respondents, obtained by convenience sampling technique. Respondent criteria are active students at several universities in Bandung City and active Instagram users. The measuring instruments used are the Fear of Missing Out Scale compiled by Przybylski (2013) and adapted by Santika (2015), and the Psychological Well-Being Scale compiled by Ryff (1989) and adapted by Rachmayani and Ramdani (2014). The results show that FoMO has a negative influence of 13.5% on Psychological Well-Being in university students in Bandung City. The higher the level of FoMO, the lower the level of Psychological Well-Being. While the other 86.5% can be influenced by other variables, one of which is the variable of social media addiction (Parveiz et al, 2023). Abstrak. Hasilnya menunjukan bahwa FoMO memiliki pengaruh negatif sebesar 13,5% terhadap Psychological Well-Being pada mahasiswa di Kota Bandung. Semakin tinggi tingkat FoMO maka semakin rendah tingkat Psychological Well-Being. Abstract

Self-efficacy is one of the essential things that students need to have, especially in academic performance. Self-efficacy has several sources, one of which is verbal persuasion in the form of verbal encouragement. Verbal encouragement can increase individual beliefs about their ability to complete tasks. This experimental study aims to determine the effect of verbal encouragement on self-efficacy.  The design used is a between-participant post-test only and conducted online. The sample of this study was 80 students of the Faculty of Psychology, Padjadjaran University, Bandung. The sample was randomly divided into two groups: The experimental group with verbal encouragement and the control group without intervention. Measurement of self-efficacy using two measuring instruments, General Self-efficacy Scale, which measures self-efficacy in general, and New General Self-efficacy Scale to measure self-efficacy more specifically, namely according to the research context. Data analysis using SPSS 26 and the results obtained based on the independent t-test showed that there was a significant effect of providing verbal encouragement on the level of self-efficacy of participants at p-value=0.0015 and p-value=0.000. This shows that giving verbal encouragement can increase the self-efficacy of participants who take tests, especially the Basic Indonesian Sign Language Quiz (BISINDO).

Abstract

Promoting pro-environmental behavior is a significant concern nowadays. Researchers have identified social value orientation as one of the key factors influencing pro-environmental behavior. This study aims to investigate the influence of social value orientation on pro-environmental behavior and to highlight differences based on gender. The research method used is non-experimental quantitative causality. This research was carried out in 2024 at B University in Bandung. The study participants were 378 students from B University in Bandung, selected using convenience sampling. The measurement tools used were the Triple Dominance Scale by Van Lange (1998) to assess social value orientation (SVO) tendencies and the GEB Scale by Kaiser (2020) to measure general ecological behavior, i.e., the tendency to engage in pro-environmental or non-pro-environmental behavior. Data analysis was done using JASP version 19. The results showed a significant influence of social value orientation on pro-environmental behavior with Fisher's exact test p=0.017 (p<0.05). An odds ratio of 0.084 was obtained, indicating that participants categorized as pro-social are 11.9 times more likely to engage in pro-environmental behavior than those classified as pro-self. Regarding gender differences, the chi-square test revealed no significant differences between males and females in terms of social value orientation tendencies with χ2=0.056 (p>0.05), as well as in terms of engaging in pro-environmental behavior, with χ2=0.774 (p>0.05). The conclusions of this study are that social value orientation affects pro-environmental behavior, and there was no significant difference between gender in social value orientation tendencies and pro-environmental behavior.

Abstract

Abstract. The phenomenon of increasing academic cheating behavior among students raises serious concerns related to academic integrity, legitimate learning, and the quality of graduates, while character education and the development of social values are vigorously echoed in overcoming the challenges of academic honesty in the higher education environment. This study aims to examine the influence of Dark Triads as a personality factor on academic dishonesty among students. The sample of this study involved 115 randomly selected students. The analysis method used is linear regression. The results of regression analysis show that the Dark Triads have a significant and positive influence on academic dishonesty, with an F value of count = 13.630 with a significance level of 0.001 < 0.05, meaning that there is an influence of the Dark Triad on academic dishonesty. The Dark Triad's contribution to academic dishonesty is 11%. Academic dishonesty is still low (77.39%), meaning that there are still many students who are honest. The most abundant aspect of the Dark Triads is Machiavellianism. These findings suggest that the tendency of Dark Triads in college students can increase academic dishonesty behavior. Based on the results of this study, it is recommended that educational institutions strengthen character education programs and academic integrity. Further research is needed to explore other variables that may influence academic dishonesty. Keywords: Academic Dishonesty, Dark Triads
