Abstract

The stigma felt towards clients with mental disorders is still negative in community. Health education programs are run by health workers in order to reduce the stigma for clients with mental disorders in the community. These programs have been widely implemented but there has been a low impact on the community thus far. The aim of this study was to gain an insight into the stigma focused on clients with mental disorders in the community. The databases used were SCOPUS, ProQuest, SAGE and Science Direct in order to identify potential articles. The articles were limited to being published in a range of 5 years from 2013 to 2018. The keywords used in the literature review were “stigma” AND “community” AND “mental disorder”. This study reports on the latest experience of stigma in relation to clients with mental disorders. The stigma is given from the community to the client with a mental disorder at 4 levels, namely labeling, stereotype, exclusion and discrimination. This makes the social life of the clients disturbed. Stigma and the prevention of it must therefore be further developed in the community. The results of this systematic review should be considered to reduce and prevent stigma in clients with mental disorders.

Abstract

Background: Restraint in the psychiatric unit is a common practice but it is very controversial and it has undergone a poor evaluation according to methodological investigations. Using restraint is a common problem and has a significant impact on patients, families and health care staff. Therefore, this systematic review will discuss the important reasons as to why restraint should be reduced. It will also explain several alternative treatments for aggressive patients in mental hospitals.Method: The database searches were used to identify potential articles: Scopus and Proquest were the focus. The search was limited to those published in the range of the last 5 years from 2013 to 2018. The keywords that were used were ‘restraint in the hospital’, ‘restraint reduction’, ‘the elimination of restraint’ and ‘physical restraint’.Result: Only 15 articles met the inclusion criteria. The results suggest that restraint is considered to be a violation of human rights and that it traumatizes the patients. It is inhuman and degrading. Besides this, restraint can result in physical complications in the form of lacerations, asphyxia, thrombosis and death. Restraint is permitted when other methods fail and in emergency conditions. Conclusion: Some of the ways to reduce the use of restraint are by constant monitoring and through the control of individual behavior, including verbal management and attitudes, reducing the environmental risks, and administering drugs. Some of the efforts to avoid restraint are the "Positive and Safe in Calderstones" program, sensory modulation and peer advice and support.

Abstract

Background: Resistance of Mycobacterium Tuberculosis is a condition in which Anti-Tuberculosis (OAT) drugs are unable to kill the Mycobacterium Tuberculosis germs. One type of resistance is Multidrug Resistant Tuberculosis. Multidrug Resistant Tuberculosis (MDR-TB) is TB caused by TB bacteria that are resistant to 2 types of OAT, namely INH and Rifampin. The consequences if resistance to OAT are deterioration of health, increased costs, prolonged treatment, high rates of therapy failure and death. Objective: This study aimed to determine relationship between age, gender, educational level, occupational, and knowledge level about multidrug resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) among tuberculosis patients at the Kanigaran Public Health Center, Probolinggo City. Methods: This study used a cross sectional research design with a sample of 60 respondents with pulmonary TB undergoing treatment at the Kanigaran Public Health Center, Probolinggo City. Data was collected using a questionnaire with an ordinal scale which was then analyzed using the Spearman Rank statistical test. Result: Based on the research results, it was found that only age and educational level had a relationship with knowledge level (r = -.291, p = .024; r = .470, p = .000; respectively). Conclusion: The level of knowledge of TB patients about multidrug-resistant TB (MDR-TB) can be influenced by education level and age, so that health workers can provide an understanding related to MDR-TB according to the level of education and age of the TB patient.

Abstract

Background: Menarche represents a critical developmental milestone in the lives of young girls, often accompanied by a range of emotional responses influenced by the level of knowledge and preparedness. Inadequate preparation and prevalent misconceptions may contribute to heightened anxiety and suboptimal menstrual hygiene practices, particularly in low- and middle-income settings. Objective: This study aimed to compare the levels of knowledge and readiness for menarche among primary school girls residing in two contrasting geographic contexts: a provincial buffer zone and a tourist region. Methods: A comparative research design was utilized, involving a sample of 184 female students from grades 5 and 6 enrolled in schools located in the buffer zone of a provincial capital and in designated tourist areas. Data were collected using structured questionnaires adapted from validated instruments to assess knowledge and readiness for menarche. Spearman's Rho correlation test was applied to analyze the association between knowledge and readiness, while independent samples t-tests were used to compare the mean differences between the two groups. Results: The findings revealed a strong positive correlation between knowledge and readiness in Sidoarjo Regency (r = .788, p < .001) and a moderate positive correlation in Malang City (r = .505, p < .001). Although several students demonstrated adequate knowledge, notable gaps in readiness—particularly in Malang—highlight the influence of additional factors such as socio-cultural norms and the availability of practical support systems. Conclusion: While increasing knowledge about menarche is vital to improving readiness, effective menstrual health management (MHM) necessitates comprehensive educational strategies and the provision of supportive infrastructure. The study underscores the importance of initiating early, culturally responsive menstrual education and ensuring adequate school facilities to foster positive health behaviors and diminish menstrual-related stigma.
