Abstract

Purpose – This study was conducted to examine the implementation of the Arabic Language Program (ALP) and to explore how Arabic functions as a foundational medium for the acquisition of Islamic knowledge at a public higher education institution in Malaysia. Design/methods/approach – This study employed a mixed-method exploratory design in two phases. The first phase involved qualitative data collection through semi-structured interviews with 46 informants, classroom observations of two classes and document analysis. These findings were used to construct a quantitative questionnaire, which was then administered in the second phase to 184 respondents. The data were analyzed thematically and statistically with triangulation to ensure depth and validity. Findings – The study identified three overarching themes: (i) Towards a Dynamic Arabic Language Curriculum for Holistic Islamic Education, (ii) A Curriculum That Meets the Pedagogical Needs of Arabic Language and Religious Learning and (iii) Challenges in the Execution of the ALP Curriculum. Research implications/limitations – While the findings indicate that ALP has effectively supported students’ progress in Islamic studies, the long-established structure of the curriculum may give benefit from greater responsiveness to current educational and industrial needs.  Therefore, it is recommended that further studies be conducted to explore lecturers’ perspectives and post-program outcomes in order to assess its long-term impact and sustainability. Originality/value – This study provides an in-depth evaluation of a 40-year-old Arabic preparatory program, emphasizing its role in strengthening Islamic education and identifying key areas for reform. It offers a valuable framework for enhancing Arabic language curriculum in higher education, particularly for non-native speakers especially in Southeast Asia, in support of religious educational objectives.

Abstract

As part of memorization sciences, Tahfiz on the Quran has been widely emerged in the Malay Archipelago where mostly all its institutions managed by bodies or individuals privately. This study aims to examine the assessment of implementation of the curriculum, also involves the form and method of curriculum implementation available in these institutions, especially institutions located in the state of Johor. The study data was obtained through a questionnaire instrument distributed to 25 institutions in the state of Johor. Of the total, only 19 forms were returned and that number was analyzed to obtain the percentage of implementation of the private Tahfiz curriculum in the state of Johor. The data obtained were processed using Statistical Package for Social Science (SPSS) version 16.0. The findings of the analysis show that the two items involving the form of Tahfiz curriculum and the implementation method of Tahfiz curriculum are at a less satisfactory level of interpretation that is medium low. Although there is one item related to the implementation of the curriculum in the state of Johor is at a moderately high level of interpretation, but if evaluated as a whole, the level of implementation is still at a moderately low level of interpretation. Therefore, this study found that there are some specific aspects, especially those involving the form and method of implementation need to be improved so that the curriculum offered is able to produce a generation of knowledgeable, skilled and competitive huffaz (memorizer).

Abstract

Educating children in the 21st century is different from it was in the 20st century. Parents in this era face challenges because it is impossible for their children to be away from the Internet and social media. Children become asocial because of their addiction to gadgets and the Internet. However, from the Internet, they may learn different new things that allow them to get information faster than their parents do. Parents must certainly adapt to this change in educating their children so that they are not distracted by the negative effects of incorrect education caused by technological advancements. The purpose of this study is to promote some of the important knowledge that parents must have to educate their children in this century, aside from religious knowledge, as the primary foundation of upbringing in Muslim families. This research undertakes a thorough examination of scholarly work on Islamic education for children and contemporary studies on children's learning in the 21st century. After scrutinizing a range of literature, the researchers identified several pertinent references for this investigation. The results of this study elucidate that in order to effectively nurture their children in the contemporary era, parents are required to possess a profound understanding of Islamic principles alongside a continuous commitment to enhance their comprehension in diverse fields such as parenting techniques, information technology, psychology, and communication strategies.

Abstract

This study examines how teacher professionalism can be effectively enhanced through the development of a positive self-concept using a communication psychology approach. Conducted at SMP Negeri Kota Banda Aceh, the research addresses long-standing challenges related to low teacher motivation, seniority-based hierarchies, limited ICT competence, and weak collaboration between civil servant teachers (PNS) and non-permanent teachers (GTT). Using a qualitative design, data were collected through observations, interviews, and documentation over a six-month intervention period focusing on interpersonal communication, small-group communication within MGMP meetings, and large-group communication led by the school principal. The findings show that communication psychology significantly improves teachers’ confidence, motivation, and willingness to engage in professional tasks. Teachers demonstrated increased digital competence, greater openness to collaboration, stronger reflective practices, and improved pedagogical initiative. The intervention also helped reduce social gaps between PNS and GTT teachers by fostering a more supportive relational climate. These results suggest that teacher professionalism is not solely a technical or administrative issue but a psychosocial construct shaped by relational support, communication patterns, and emotional validation. The study concludes that communication-based interventions can serve as effective strategies for professional development in schools with hierarchical cultures. Future research should employ longitudinal or mixed-method designs to examine sustainability and broader applicability.
