Abstract

A study on community of phytoplankton in Diatas lake was conducted from April to September 2014. This study aimed to describe composition and structure of phytoplankton of the lake. We sampled phytoplankton at 6 stations purposively using plankton net that hauled vertically. We  found 70 species of phytoplankton those belong to five classes, i.e. Bacillariophyceae (33 species), Chlorophyceae (27 species), Cyanophyceae (5 species), Dinophyceae (3 species) and Euglenophyceae (1 species). Total density of phytoplankton ranged from 881.06 to 3,196.02 ind/l. The highest density was at Station VI (Teluk Kinari) and the lowest one was at Station III (Muaro). Phytoplanktons with higher relative density (RD > 5 %) were Melosira italica, Synedra ulna, Melosira granulata (Bacillariophyceae), Staurastrum cereates, Chlorella vulgaris and Spirogyra fluviatis (Chlorophyceae). Shannon-Wiener Diversity index of phytoplankton (H`) ranged from 1.30 to 1.71 with the highest diversity index was at Station IV (Batang Hari) and the lowest was at Station V (central lake). Equitability index (E) was ranged from 0.39 to 0.57. Similarity index among stations were low which ranged from 34.48  to 62.50%.

Abstract

Studies on Phytoplankton Primary Productivity and Analysis of Chemical Physics at Sea waters of the West Coast of West Sumatra has been conducted from April-October 2015 on the west coast of West Sumatra. The purpose of this study to determine the number of primary productivity generated by western sea coast of West Sumatra as well as analyze the physico-chemical conditions of the waters. The method used is the method of chlorophyll-a and Winkler methods for the measurement of oxygen and carbon dioxide as well as direct measurement by using the tool in other chemical physics parameters were observed. Primary productivity found in the coastal waters of western Sumatra on average ranged from 0.019 to 0.035 mg/ m3. The range of the primary productivity showed western coastal waters of West Sumatra is still relatively oligotrophic (low fertility). Physico-chemical parameters in waters off the West Coast of West Sumatra is still quite good in which all parameters were observed still under sea water quality standard.

Abstract

Herbivorous fish have an influence on habitat quality and a major factor in determining coral reef community. This herbivorous fish used as indicator of monitoring refers to reef resilience since of its ability to retain and restore the coral reef condition after disturbance. The presence of herbivores is important in influencing succession of algae, it can reduce and control algae on coral reefs. It’s causes in the availability of space or substrate for corals to recruit. So the research conducted that aims to know the abundance of herbivorous fish in fish apartment as one indicator of monitoring based on endurance. This study had conducted after six months of fish apartment placed in the coastal waters of Tangah Island, Pariaman City, West Sumatra. Then, the observation had done every month for six months in July 2015 - January 2016 at the location of the fish apartment. Observation abundance of herbivorous fish had done by visual census method at fish apartment location. From the results of observations for six months found 10 species of herbivorous fish with total as many as 289 individuals. Zebrasoma scopas is a species with the most individuals than 97 individu. However, to see the effect of herbivorous fish on coral recruitment in fish apartment needs to do further research. Keywords: abundance, herbivorous fish, fish apartment

Abstract

Human activities along Batang Durian River can affect the diversity of aquatic organism, especially fishes. Fish diversity is the trophic characteristic based on its biological organisms that determine community structure. The research had been conducted from Mei to September 2016 to analyze the type of abundance, fish diversityand physical-chemical aspects of aquatic body. The research used survey method. Furthermore, the location and sampling effort were determined with purposive random sampling technique. Sample collection was set during 1 hour of catching till no more new species found in the three sampling location. The result revealed there were 9 species with 46 individuals in Batang Durian River. Diversity index in Batang Durian River was classified as medium with the distribution was even and no species dominated. The physical-chemical aspects of Batang Durian River were supposed to be able to support the live of aquatic organisms within. Human activities along the river body was fairly affecting fish diversity in it.
