Abstract

This research aimed to determine the concentration of preservative use of betel nut Areca catechu L. extract is best based preserpative retention and penetration of the highest in the stem (tip, middle and butt) mahang wood. The research used method completely randomized design (CRD) arranged factorially with 2 (two) factors. The first factor is the concentration of the curing agent (B) consist of three 3 (three) level, namely B1 (20% concentration), B2 (25% concentration) and B3 (30% concentration). The second factor is the wooden rod (C) consist of 3 (three) level, namely C1 (butt), C2 (middle of timber) and C3 (wood tip). Concentration of plant extract preservative us Areca catechu L. is best based preservative highest retention was 30% at tip (18,33 kg/m3), middle (16,03 kg/m3) and butt (15,55 kg/m3), whereas the concentration of plant extract preservative us betel nut Areca catechu L. is best based preservative highest penetration was 30% at tip (63,76%), middle (53,93%) and butt (50,06%) mahang wood.   Keywords: Macaranga gigantea, Areca catechu, wood preservative.

Abstract

The mangrove forest is plants that live in the mouth of the river and were able to survive in the tide. The area has a mangrove ecosystem in Bengkalis is Teluk Pambang Village and need to be developed into the ecotourism area. Ecotourism development goal is to protect the existing potentials in the mangrove forests and became one of the alternative sources in raising funds for conservation activities. This research purpose to identify the ecotourism potential of mangrove forest in Teluk Pambang Village, Bantan District Bengkalis Regency, to knowing the efforts and forms of conservation for the development of ecotourism and  to knowing the correlation of ecotourism potential as a supporting mangrove forest conservation. The method that used in analyzing the potential of ecotourism is based on the analysis of mangrove vegetation that expressed in the formula English et al. (1997) to obtain density and the importance of community structure of mangrove conservation, efforts and  forms was processed using a Likert Scale and the relation of potential ecotourism as a supporting mangrove forest data was processed by descriptive. The results of this research indicate that the ecotourism potential of mangrove forest in the Teluk Pambang Village, consists of very density  mangrove forest. Station I had a density of 2,967 ind/ha, station II has a density of 5,778 ind/ha and Station III has a density of 4,688 ind/ha, vegetation and wildlife are varieties and landscape of ecotourism still nature. Efforts and forms of conservation were managed by the Manage Group of Mangrove (KPM) Belukap, habits and knowledges of local communities (local wisdom) in Teluk Pambang Village and participation of respondents to the conservation efforts. The correlation of ecotourism potential to support conservation of mangrove forests are a visitor, education and research. Keywords: Potential, Mangrove Ecosystem, Ecotourism, Conservation

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the quality of tempeh complementation from jackfruit seeds and saga. This research carried out experiments using Complete Randomized Design (CRD) to six treatment that is:NS0 (100% soy as a control); NS1 (90 jackfruit seeds : 10 saga); NS2 (80 jackfruit seeds : 20 saga); NS3(70 jackfruit seeds : 30 saga); NS4 (60 jackfruit seeds : 40 saga) and NS5 (50 jackfruit seeds : 50 saga). The results showed that the complementation of jackfruit seeds and saga significantly affect the moisturecontent, ash content, protein content, fat content, color, aroma, taste and overall assessment and theyhave been conformed tempeh ISO standards, except fat content. Jackfruit seeds and saga complementationNS4 (60 jackfruit seeds : 40 saga) will produce a better tempeh with moisture content 61.53%, ash content0.93%, protein content 28.87%, fat content 5.98%, white color, less-typical tempeh aroma, tastes a goodand overall assessment is less preferred by the panelists.Key words : Jackfruit seeds, saga, tempeh, fermentation, Rhizopus sp.
