Abstract

This study assessed EFL (English as a Foreign Language) students' perceptions of using Wattpad to improve their creative writing skills. Wattpad, a community-based platform, allows students to read, write, and share stories, which helps them develop creativity, narrative structure, and vocabulary. This research was conducted on 10 EFL student participants at the North Sumatra State Islamic University (UIN-SU), using a phenomenological approach. Data was collected through in-depth interviews to understand the experiences, benefits and challenges students face in using Wattpad for creative writing. This research aims to explore how social interaction and feedback from the Wattpad community contribute to the motivation and development of students' writing skills, particularly in terms of narrative ability, creativity, and character development. In addition, this research also aims to identify the challenges students face in using Wattpad and investigate how this platform can be optimized in classroom learning settings for EFL. The research results show that Wattpad provides significant benefits, especially in increasing student motivation through feedback and interaction with the community. Students reported improvements in their narrative techniques, creativity, and character development. However, challenges such as lack of technical guidance in creative writing and difficulties in time management were also cited by participants. In conclusion, Wattpad has proven to be an effective tool for supporting creative writing, especially if incorporated into the curriculum with proper guidance. This research suggests that further research should be carried out to optimize the use of Wattpad in learning and overcome the challenges faced by students.

Abstract

The integration of digital technology into education is rapidly expanding. However, the use of technology in learning is often uneven. Limited literature on Schistosomiasis among students contributes to a lack of understanding about this disease. This study aimed to develop a valid, practical, and effective e-module for identifying Schistosoma japonicum worm eggs in human feces in North Lore District, Central Sulawesi. The ADDIE model was employed for the e-module's development, which included stages of needs analysis, design, development, and evaluation. The media and material validity test yielded highly valid results. The e-module's practicality was assessed as highly practical for use in teaching. The effectiveness of the media was determined to be highly effective, with an n-gain test score of 0.76, indicating a high level of learning. Based on these findings, the e-module is deemed valid, practical, and effective for use in biology education. This study is anticipated to be a reference for future researchers developing similar products in other biology subjects.

Abstract

Students' ability to identify problems in the PBL syntax is still weak, which affects their critical thinking and communication skills. This has become an issue that requires a solution. This study aims to develop a PBLRQA teaching module to improve senior high school students’ critical thinking and scientific communication skills. The type of research used is R&D (Research and Development) with a 4D development model. The research subjects were 30 tenth-grade students from class X9. The instruments used included validation sheets, essay questions to assess critical thinking skills, and observation sheets to assess communication skills. Data analysis was conducted using percentage formulas and the N-gain test. The results showed a significant difference in the average scores of students’ critical thinking skills before and after the treatment. The average pretest score was 11.3, and after the treatment using the PBLRQA teaching module, the average posttest score increased to 85.16. The N-gain score was 0.83, categorized as high, indicating that the PBLRQA teaching module was effective. The conclusion of this study is that the PBLRQA teaching module has been proven effective in improving students’ critical thinking and scientific communication skills. The implication of this research is that the developed PBLRQA teaching module can be used as a learning tool in biology classes, particularly for the topic of viruses.
