Abstract

Javanese people were known as religious communities, but there are some syncretic people among them who likely to compromise the things are somewhat different even contrary to religion. They also do not question the right or wrong in religion, pure or not, so they see all religions are true. Raden Ngabehi Ranggawarsita was a figure representing this. He was born and raised in between two major traditions, Islamic tradition and Javanese tradition. He received Islamic tradition from pesantren and Javanese tradition from his environment, Surakarta Palace. These two traditions affected his thinking, not exception his thought about God. Because it also, the concept of God which was initiated by Ranggawarsita did not fully represent the fundamental values of Islam (tawhid). He had has the Manunggaling Kawula Gusti in view on God. This concept showed that Ranggawarsita as adherent of kejawen and in a time he was a Muslim. This paper will look critically at the Ranggawarsita’s view on God.

Abstract

Paham pluralisme agama yang berkembang akhir-akhir ini banyak mengambil legitimasinya dari para sufi. Dari situ, mereka beranggapan bahwa pemikiran pluralisme agama memang telah ada dalam tradisi intelektual Islam dan tentunya berdasarkan ajaran Islam. Padahal, legitimasi tersebut hanya merupakan hasil comot yang tidak mendasar. Salah seorang sufi yang paling sering menjadi objek kajian yang dituduh sebagai penyebar paham pluralisme agama ini adalah Ibnu Arabi. Dikatakan, Ibnu Arabi memiliki konsep wah}dat al-adyan yang merupakan cerminan paham pluralisme agama saat ini. Padahal, makna wah}dat al-wujud yang dipahami oleh para sufi yang sahih sebenarnya bukan dalam konteks agama atau dalam konteks panteisme, tapi dalam konteks hirarki wujud, di mana Allah dipahami sebagai Wujud Akhir yang Absolut (al Wujud al-Akhir al-Mutlaq) dan selain-Nya adalah wujud yang nisbi. Artikel ini ingin mengkritisi sikap para pluralis yang mendistorsi pemikiran Ibnu Arabi tentang pluralisme agama. Hal ini dipandang penting guna mengembangkan sikap kritis bagi para sarjana Muslim agar tidak asal comot dan menerima begitu saja pemikiran para pluralis yang terpengaruh para orientalis.

Abstract

Manunggaling Kawula Gusti is the science of the high level of the Javanese to acquire the degree of perfection. In Kejawen, it is central to his teachings. However, in its history, the concept is not apart of the debate. It is said that Manunggaling Kawula Gusti is based to the teachings of the monistic and pantheistic. This teaching spreaded by Ranggawarsita, and write the complete fiber that discuss about Manunggaling Kawula Gusti. The fiber is Serat Wirid Hidayat Jati. He is a figure that represents a concept that is raised by the process of acculturation the two great major, the Islamic tradition and Kejawen tradition. Then, the pattern of Ranggawarsita thought influenced by the two traditions. This leads to not represent one of the tradition as a whole. The discussion aims to uncover Manunggaling Kawula Gusti according to Ranggawarsita in Serat Wirid Hidayat Jati, and the views of Islamic Monotheism against the doctrine. At the end of this discussion, will explain that the concept of Manunggaling Kawula Gusti teaches that the God is transcend with human, but His names and natures are close with human. That the meant of Manunggaling Kawula Gusti is Lord and servant is unity of creativity, taste and intention. Manunggaling Kawula Gusti may not be viewed as the teachings that deviate from monotheism, and instead, it is a form of the highest expression of the tawhid. This docrine teaches that there is no manifestation of the essential in addition to form of God.

Abstract

Abstract : This study aimed to understand the stages of women becoming a nun in RSCJ Bandung. This study’s data collection technique was qualitative with a phenomenological approach. The author also interviewed two RSCJ nuns who have attained permanent and first vocations. As Servant of Christ who was willing to dedicate their lives to God, nuns had a convent life that was different from other people, following the vows that had been professed, such as devotion directed to God of various kinds, helping others, hand in hand with one another and being active in society based on the knowledge and spiritual level. Before dedicating themselves to society, nuns needed guidance to obtain provisions carried out during their service period. This study concluded that at RSCJ Bandung, prospective nuns received a lot of guidance and accordance with their respective fields, which are mastered with an emphasis on education vows because it is hoped that nuns will be able to teach others what they have learned while at RSCJ. Abstract

This article aims to analyze the criticism given by Fazlur Rahman on the idea of Islamization of knowledge. According to Rahman, the concept of Islamization was conceptually initiated by SMN al-Attas and has no roots at all. According to Rahman, who is also the starting point for his criticism, first, science is essentially good. This means that it is neutral from all values (value-free). Second, the existence of a variety of views that even differ from one another among Muslim thinkers has an impact on the impossibility of determining which knowledge is Islamic or not. In this paper, the researcher will analyze the argumentative text of Fazlur Rahman's rejection of the Islamization of knowledge based on a conceptual basis about the nature of knowledge. Then the researcher explained the nature of knowledge according to al-Attas. The results of this research are that according to Fazlur Rahman, the problems of modern knowledge lie in a scientist's 'sense of responsibility', not in the concept of knowledge itself. As a result, Fazlur Rahman views that Islamization of knowledge is not necessary. Meanwhile, al-Attas views that the problems of contemporary science lie in knowledge itself. This is because several metaphysical aspects are included in building the concept of knowledge in modern science adopted by philosophers and scientists which cannot be reconciled with the nature of knowledge in Islam. This is where al-Attas sees the need for the Islamization of Contemporary knowledge.

Abstract

This research aims to examine the thoughts of Abdul Karim Soroush’s, especially in his theory of al-Qabd and al-Bast as an effort to reconstruction of islamic religious reason. Based on library research, namely reference sources come from books, jurnals, articels, and other reference thet are relevant to the topic of discussion, this research uses a descriptive method. The result of this research is that the Abdul Karim Soroush’s theory of al-Qabd and al-Bast has three principles, namely Coherence and Corespondence, Interpenetration, and Evolution. Based on this principles, Abdul Karim Soroush’s has confirm that the position between religion and understanding of religion are two distinct entities. The position of religion is absolute and unchanging. While the understanding of religion is relative and dynamic. Therefore, Abdul Karim Soroush’s thoughts on the theory of al-Qabd and al-Bast, have very important and strategic implications and consequences in developing of religious reasoning in the contemporary era with changes that continue to take place dynamically.

Abstract

This article aimed to elaborate on the death ritual carried out by the society of Tana Toraja. Tana Toraja people, apart from their official affiliation to Christianity, yet practised an indigenous ceremony known as Rambu Solo’ as a part of Aluk Todolo, which is identified as a local belief system of the Tana Toraja. To describe a proper image of both rituals simultaneously, this paper used some methods: structuralism, comparison, and interviewing. The structuralism method of research came more profound into a comprehension of the funerals regarding their prominent position within Tana Toraja people; the comparison method traced both similarities and differences of the ritual based on its theological origin and practises while interviewing was done formulating pieces of information derived from Tana Toraja religious figures and intellectuals, stood for an additional effort enriching available documented sources. This research concluded that the community of Tana Toraja combined their death ritual from both Christianity and Rambu Solo’ basis, making it an inevitably distinguished ritual practise. Considering the traditions’ divergent values, the discussion suggests multiple identity belongings in the local Indonesian context.

Abstract

A local cultural wisdom, which includes various varieties in Indonesia, has its uniqueness which is still maintained today, even though the digital era has become a local community. The rapid development in all aspects of life, from analogue to digital, has made some Batak tribes maintain their local cultural customs, namely Dalihan Na Tolu. Maintaining the existence of Dalihan Na Tolu among local and overseas communities is not easy because to preserve cultural customs, the values of local wisdom experience degradation. The purpose of this study was to determine the activities of Dalihan Na Tolu as a way of life or a philosophy of life for the Batak people because Dalihan Na Tolu is a guideline that has never been abandoned by the Batak people, both locally and overseas. This type of research is library research with qualitative data collection. This research method uses sociology with the subject Dalihan Na Tolu and analysis of social network mapping. To strengthen this method, the researcher uses Clifford Geertz's thought to understand symbols, meanings and identities in Dalihan Na Tolu through a text. This study's findings are that Dalihan Na Tolu's local wisdom has three elements, namely Mora, Kahanggi and Boru. These three elements have interrelated relationships and can facilitate normal societal and cultural activities. Batak people, both local and overseas, can adapt to the situation and developments in this modern era. Thus, the philosophy of Dalihan Na Tolu will never change or disappear, even though times and places are always dynamic.

Abstract

This research aims to evaluate the effectiveness of healthy food education and health outreach at SDN 2 Brubuh, which was carried out through a healthy and nutritious creative meal box competition. The outreach method involves conveying information about the importance of healthy food and good health practices to students, while creative meal box competitions provide an interactive means of strengthening this understanding. Apart from that, the practice of washing hands with soap is also implemented as an integral part of health outreach. This research involved 70 students from various grade levels at SDN 2 Brubuh. The results showed a significant increase in students' health understanding and practices after implementing the activities, with a marked increase in healthy food choices and compliance with hand washing practices. These findings indicate that health education and health outreach through creative meal box competitions can be an effective approach in increasing students' health awareness and behavior in the school environment.
