Abstract

Higher-order thinking skills (HOTS) are essential skills required in 21st-century learning. This study aims to describe students' understanding of HOTS-based mathematics learning holistically. The comprehension in question includes insight into HOTS-based mathematics learning, both general comprehension and HOTS-based mathematics instructional design, and an understanding of HOTS-based problems (insight and ability to solve problems). This research was a qualitative study with the subject of 16 students of class B Micro Teaching lectures. Data were gathered from context questionnaires and HOTS profile questionnaires, observations of learning practices, tests, and interviews. Data analysis used was a qualitative technique consisting of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions and verification. The results showed that the students had a good understanding of HOTS-based mathematics learning. HOTS is understood as a skill that requires critical and creative thinking in solving problems at the level of analysis, evaluation, and creation. The majority of HOTS-based learning activities were shown by giving HOTS questions. Students have a good understanding of HOTS questions but this is not the case in creating and solving problems. Students' ability in solving HOTS level questions still needs to be improved.

Abstract

The design principles of online distance learning that have been developed in previous studies need to be investigated in the process of adaptation and implementation. The process provides important insights to refine these principles to make them more appropriate to the learning context. The purpose of this study was to determine the process of adaptation and implementation of online distance learning design principles by preservice mathematics teachers. The present study employed qualitative research which is based on the activity theory model. The results of this study reveal the challenges experienced by preservice mathematics teachers in adapting and implementing online distance learning design principles. In addition, this study also finds that the community around the preservice mathematics teachers has an important role in supporting them to design and implement online distance learning.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze critical thinking and creative thinking skills in class XI mechanical engineering students at Leonardo Klaten Vocational School for the 2022/2023 academic year in mathematics learning using the Problem Based learning model. The subjects in this research were 30 students of class XI Mechanical Engineering B SMK Leonardo Pangudi Luhur Klaten academic year 2022/2023. The research was carried out in February 2023 – March 2023. Data collection techniques used were observation, tests and interviews. The results of observations and tests were analyzed using descriptive statistics assisted by Microsoft Excel to determine average scores and categories. The instruments used in this research include observation sheets, test questions and interview guides. The research results showed that the Problem Based Learning model implemented by the researcher was carried out at each meeting with a percentage of 79.54% in the good category at the first meeting and 81.81% in the very good category at the second meeting. Students' critical thinking skills in PBL-based learning reach the moderately critical category, while creative thinking skills fall into the moderately creative category judging from the average score and the majority of students' categories.

Abstract

Learning modules are one of the learning resources that can be used by teachers and students in the learning process. This research aims to develop a mathematics learning module with valid contextually based quadrilateral material. This research is Research and Development with the Thiagarajan model. Due to time constraints, researchers only carried out 3 stages out of 4 stages, namely Define, Design, and Develop. Apart from learning modules for students, this research also develops teacher guides related to these learning modules. The results of this research showed that the contextual-based rectangular material learning module was said to be valid with a percentage of 83.12% so the learning module was suitable for use by students in the learning process.
