Abstract

ABSTRACT International Non Governmental Organization (INGO) is one of the subjects of discussion in International Relations. The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) as an Advisory Board collects natural sites that are nominated for World Heritage status, manages complementary sites, and contributes to supporting the implementation of World Heritage. One of the sites in the spotlight is the Belize Barrier Reef Reserve System (BBRRS), which is a natural site that has been designated as a World Heritage List in Danger since 2009. BBRRS was threatened by the increasing of activities in the tourism, fisheries and oil mining sectors. The IUCN as an Advisory Board during 2009-2018 had an important role in the process of erasing BBRRS from the List of World Heritage in Danger. This descriptive qualitative study uses the literature method to describe the role of international organizations in influencing the focus and decisions of international forums. Abstract

ABSTRACT Environmental issues have become the main international agenda. The high threat that occurs due to pressure on marine resources such as unlimited capture of marine products, destructive fishing techniques, land pollution, and climate change increases the risk of damage to the marine and coral reef environment. The purpose of this study was to provide a description of the efforts made by the six Coral Triangle Initiatives (CTI) member countries namely the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste and the Solomon Islands to help overcome coral reef problems in the Philippines. These six countries located in the Coral Triangle region jointly compiled the Regional Plans of Action, which was then followed by the preparation of CTI National Plans of Action by each country. This research is a qualitative descriptive study using library studies in collecting the data. The results showed that the success of the efforts of the six countries established through regionall cooperation can be seen in the preservation of Ang Pulo National Park in the Philippines which has improved the function of its mangrove forests and improved coral reef conditions on Culion Island after improvements to the economic welfare of its people. Abstract

ABSTRACT China realized the economic statecraft strategy through Approved Destination Status (ADS) in Canada. ADS is an outbound tourism policy that functions as a control scheme for China's relations with countries that have been approved as tourist destinations and control of its citizens who conduct outbound tourism. The use of ADS as a form of diplomacy is because China seeks to eliminate the image of China Threat so that China can further expand its foreign policy and economic interests. The international situation also influenced China's decision to use ADS as a form of diplomacy. But since the Harper government, Canada has given harsh criticisms to China on issues of human rights, finance, investment, etc. Besides that, Canada gave an honorary citizenship title to the Dalai Lama, known for his anti-china views. China then postponed the administration of ADS as a reaction to Canada's attitude. Furthermore, this research will describe the use of ADS as economic statecraft in Canada. This research shows that ADS can function as a stick with the delay as well as providing ADS as a reward after normalization of relations after Harper's visit to Beijing in 2009. Data in this research were collected from many sources such as website, reports, journals, books etc. To analyze, this research used determinants foreign policy and economic statecraft concept. Keywords: Approved Destination Status (ADS), Tourism Diplomacy, Economic Statecraft.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Territorial integrity is of paramount to a state. It is an absolute interest needed to be guarded at all cost. However, Kazakhstan agreed to support The Northern Distribution Network (NDN) and allowed US troops crossing its territory. This was done amidst existing pressures from Kazakh's two great power neighbors, Russia and China. Both states are knowingly giving potential security threats to Kazakhstan. This qualitative research analyzes the interest of Kazakhstan behind its support toward NDN access. Using Balance of Threats and National Interest concept, the research finds that Kazakhstan's border was no longer rigid as it faced far more beneficial interests both in economic and security. This suggested that guarding territorial integrity was not that absolute, at least in the context of Kazakhstan's multi-vector policy.
