Abstract

Abstract

This study examines the types, dominance, and income of nutmeg farmers in Ternate, West Halmahera, and Bacan Island, to improve the effectiveness of learning and farmer welfare through more profitable nutmeg nurseries. This study used qualitative descriptive methods and surveys in five locations, with nutmeg nurseries as subjects. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation, then analyzed by tabulation. Based on the study, the most nutmeg varieties in the nursery locations were Ternate 1, found in five locations: Maliaro, Tobololo, Sulamadaha, Loto, and Togafo. Ternate 1 nutmeg is superior because its seeds and maces are of high quality, with characteristics of regular branching, oval leaves, and round fruit. In addition, Makian Lokal and Tobelo 1 varieties are also present, although limited. Pala Gaji, which is only found in Tobololo, has white mace, different from other varieties which are red when ripe. The Ternate 1 variety is the most dominant because many of its parent trees are spread across Ternate. In five sub-districts in Ternate City, there are four nutmeg varieties: Ternate 1, Tobelo 1, Makian Lokal, and Pala Gaji. The Ternate 1 variety is the most dominant. Of the 24 nursery farmers, their income can increase two-fold or more depending on the number of seedlings produced.

Abstract

The forest floor vegetation is a layer of plants that grow near the soil surface and generally consists of shrubs, low bushes, herbs, and grasses. Erosion is the process of detaching soil particles from their original location, followed by the transportation of these materials by water or wind until they are deposited in another location. This study aims to analyze the diversity of floor vegetation types around Laguna Lake, Ngade Village, and to explain their role in reducing surface erosion. The research was conducted using a descriptive qualitative method with direct field observation. The research results show a variation in the types of ground vegetation in the three observation plots, where plot 1 contained 6 types, plot 2 consisted of 5 types, and plot 3 consisted of 5 types. Dominance analysis shows that there are no dominant types of vegetation in the three plots. This indicates that all types of vegetation work together to reduce surface erosion rates. The ground vegetation plays an important role in maintaining soil stability around Laguna Lake.

Abstract

This study aims to develop an E-Booklet as a biology learning medium, based on the inventory of spice plants found in Tubo, Moya, and Jambula villages, intended for use at SMA Negeri 5 Kota Ternate. The research addresses the limited use of innovative media in classrooms and the underutilization of local biodiversity in education. Employing a modified Borg & Gall Research and Development (R&D) model, the study includes stages such as preliminary investigation, documentation of local spice plant species, E-Booklet design, expert validation, and limited trials with students. Data were collected using observation sheets, expert validation forms, and student learning assessments. The inventory identified a variety of spice plants, including ginger, turmeric, galangal, and nutmeg. Validation results from content and media experts indicated a high level of validity, with average scores exceeding 80%. Trial results demonstrated improved student understanding and interest in biodiversity topics. These findings suggest that the E-Booklet is both valid and effective for enhancing biology instruction. The research underscores the value of integrating local natural resources into educational materials to foster contextual learning and preserve indigenous knowledge. It also offers practical implications for educational policy and curriculum development that promote the inclusion of local wisdom in science education.

Abstract

Echinoderms are deposit feeders that digest most of the sediment. Echinoderms are also good aquatic bioindicators, because Echinodermata are relatively calm or have low mobility, so they are highly influenced by environmental factors. This study aimed to determine the community structure of Echinoderms and their distribution relationship with several aquatic physico-chemical factors. Echinodermata sampling was carried out using the belt transect method using three stations. Data were collected in the form of the number of echinoderms in the transect and physico-chemical parameters of the waters including temperature, salinity, turbidity, pH, dissolved oxygen, ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate. From the results of research at three station points in the waters of Weda waters, 9 species of Echinodermata were found, namely Protoreaster nodosus, Linckia laevigata, Culcita novaeguineae, Diadema setosum, Diadema savigny, Echinometra mathaei, Tripneusteus gratilla, Holothuria atra, Holothuria edulis which were grouped into 3 classes, 4 orders, 6 families, and 7 genera with a total of 139 individuals. The diversity index of Echinodermata in Weda waters was classified as moderate with an average value of 1.05, the uniformity index was classified as moderate with an average value of 0.56, and the average dominance index value was 0.28 meaning that no species dominated

Abstract

Collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills are becoming increasingly important in the modern workplace. Integration of learning activities, research, and community service was discovered to be an effective way to develop these abilities in students. The present study employed a mixed-methods sequential explanatory design to examine the effect of the service-learning model on seventeen college students. Observation, interview, and a problem-solving test were used to collect the data. The data were analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively. The quantitative data analysis was performed using the parametric pretest and post-test design. The results showed that participants’ problem-solving skills improved after being exposed to the service-learning model, indicated by the significance value of more than 0.05 in the non-parametric Wilcoxon test. Likewise, the qualitative analysis indicated that 95% of the participants considered the SL model effective in improving their problem-solving skills, especially the abilities to explore content, identify problems, solve the problems, and communicate scientific concepts.
