Abstract

This study aims to determine the types and meanings of the interjections used in the movie script Turning Red. This study uses a qualitative descriptive research design because it investigates the interjection utterances used in the movie script Turning Red. In data analysis, the researcher found dialogue interjection in the movie script Turning Red. Then, the researcher identified the types and meanings of the interjection in each utterance based on the theory. After that, the researcher classifies the types and meanings of the dominant interjection in the movie script Turning Red and the researcher also calculates the data and makes conclusions based on the data analysis from the data analysis, the results showed that: there were 197 interjection words in the Turning Red movie script. The types of interjection that stands out in the Turning Red movie script is Primary Interjection while the most dominant meanings of interjection is dismay. Interjection, movie script, turning red

Abstract

Through communication media, English plays a significant role in the sustainable tourism sector with the goal of promoting foreign travel, service, effective communication between foreign visitors and tourism actors, and the surrounding community, all of which are ultimately related to the growth of local tourism in the industrial era's sustainable tourism sector. 4.0 Tourist actors need to be fluent in English, especially in the vernacular, which includes basic discussion, linguistic proficiency, and basic conversation. The purpose of this study is to investigate the advantages of English- speaking culture in West Java Province's sustainable tourism sector during the Industrial Era 4.0. Descriptive qualitative analysis is the analytical technique employed. This study demonstrates the necessity of English-speaking culture in Kunuingan District, West Java Province's sustainable tourism industry in the industrial era 4.0 in order to promote the province's local tourist destinations overseas, increase the number of foreign visitors, and facilitate English-language communication. The ability to speak effectively in English is crucial for both those who work in the tourism business and those who live near popular tourist sites.

Abstract

This research explores the role of English as a lingua franca in international business, focusing on its impact on business operations, economic communication, and cross-cultural interactions. The research objectives include understanding the relationship between English proficiency and business success, identifying common cross-cultural communication challenges, and exploring strategies to improve communication in global markets. Using a qualitative methodology, data was gathered through Semi-structured interviews conducted with 10 key informants, including 2 managers, 2 executives, and 6 employees from 2 multinational corporations and 2 small businesses that operate in global markets. Key findings indicate that higher English proficiency enhances business outcomes, while cross-cultural communication barriers often complicate international transactions. The study concludes that businesses should invest in language training to boost competitiveness and mitigate communication challenges in global operations.

Abstract

The low levels of literacy and numeracy in Indonesian villages present significant challenges to social and economic development. Village libraries, which should serve as literacy hubs, often lack sufficient book collections to support community education. This community service activity aims to enhance literacy in Jatimulya village, Kuningan, West Java through the provision of reading materials and the organization of the village library. The methods used include setting up a reading garden, distributing books, and conducting literacy activities. The activity was attended by 18 elementary school students who showed high enthusiasm during storytelling sessions and reading exercises. The results indicate that appropriate book provision and literacy programs can increase students' reading interest and literacy skills. With better library facilities and ongoing support, village libraries have great potential to become effective literacy centers that support educational empowerment in rural areas. This activity successfully achieved its goals and had a positive impact on the community, particularly in fostering a literacy culture among children.

Abstract

Pengabdian masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan minat baca dan minat belajar Bahasa Inggris di kalangan anak-anak di Komplek Perumahan Graha Mutiara, Desa Sidaraja, Kecamatan Ciawi, Kabupaten Kuningan. Program pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan oleh tim dari Universitas Kuningan, dengan dukungan dari Bu Vina Agustiana, M.Pd, pemilik Linggar Course. Pemilihan lokasi program didasarkan pada rekomendasi dari stakeholders setempat. Kegiatan ini dilakukan dalam dua kali pertemuan yang melibatkan anak-anak di lingkungan tersebut. Selama pelaksanaan, antusiasme peserta tampak tinggi, menunjukkan komitmen dan minat yang besar terhadap kegiatan ini. Melalui metode yang interaktif dan menyenangkan, program ini berhasil merangsang motivasi anak-anak untuk membaca dan belajar Bahasa Inggris. Observasi menunjukkan adanya peningkatan signifikan dalam minat baca dan kemampuan berbahasa Inggris peserta. Selain itu, orang tua juga melaporkan kepuasan atas perkembangan anak-anak mereka. Penelitian ini memberikan gambaran penting tentang peran serta masyarakat dalam meningkatkan pendidikan anak, dan menekankan pada pentingnya kolaborasi antara institusi pendidikan dan komunitas lokal untuk mencapai tujuan pendidikan yang lebih baik. Abstract

Background: Instagram captions play an important role in digital communication and can be used as an innovative tool in writing instruction. By encouraging creativity and clarity, captions help students practice meaningful writing through a familiar platform. This study aims to examine the implementation of Instagram captions in teaching descriptive texts and assess their impact on students' writing skills and motivation.Methodology:This research employed classroom action research (CAR) design, conducted in two cycles, each consisting of five meetings, with the aim of improving tenth-grade students' descriptive writing skills using Instagram as a teaching media. In the planning phase, lesson plans were developed incorporating Instagram post caption activities. During the implementation phase, students were engaged in writing descriptive texts by creating captions for photos on Instagram. Observations were made throughout the teaching process, with field notes documenting the students' participation and enthusiasm. Data were collected through pre-test and post-test assessments to measure students' writing skills, and qualitative data from observations were analyzed to assess classroom dynamics. Findings:The findings of this research indicate a significant improvement in students' descriptive writing skills after the implementation of Instagram post captions as a teaching media. In the pre-test, the mean score was 75.94, with only 50% of students meeting the minimum achievement criteria (KKM). However, after the intervention, the post-test mean score increased to 80.16, with 100% of students achieving the KKM. This demonstrates a 55.57% improvement in students' writing abilities. Additionally, observations during the lessons revealed that students were more engaged and enthusiastic throughout the process, suggesting that Instagram captions effectively captured their interest and contributed to a more active and interactive classroom environment. Conclusion:In conclusion, the use of Instagram post captions as a teaching media has proven to be an effective strategy for improving students' descriptive writing skills in the tenth grade at SMAN 3 Kuningan. The research demonstrated a significant improvement in students' writing performance, with all students meeting the minimum achievement criteria by the end of the study. The integration of Instagram into the learning process not only enhanced students' writing skills but also increased their engagement and enthusiasm during lessons. Therefore, Instagram post captioning can be considered a valuable and innovative tool for teaching writing, particularly in descriptive text, and can be applied in similar educational settings to foster student creativity and motivation in writing.Originality:This study offers an original approach by utilizing Instagram post captions to improve students' descriptive writing skills, integrating social media as an effective tool in enhancing language learning outcomes.

Abstract

Pengabdian masyarakat ini dilakukan dalam rangka pengabdian masyarakat dengan tujuan meningkatkan minat belajar bahasa Inggris terutama dalam bidang literasi. Dalam pengabdian masyarakat ini penulis beserta tim melaksanakan pengabdian dengan pengenanalan digital reading kepada anak-anak yang tergabung di dalam Rumah Cerdas yang terletak di Desa Kalimanggis Wetan, Kecamatan Kalimanggis. Kabupaten Kuningan. Setelah pelaksanaan program ini yaitu peningkatan literasi melalui digital reading terlihat kemajuan dalam minat anak-anak dalam belajar bahasa Inggris melalui digital reading yang bergabung dalam pengabdian ini,selain hal tersebut para orang tua anak-anak menyatakan kepuasannya dalam program ini karena anak-anak mereka sangat antusias dalam mengikuti program ini, serta meminta penulis dan tim untuk memperpanjang durasi dari pengabdian masyarakat ini.

Abstract

This research sought to investigate the contribution of language learning strategies in the poem writing of an autistic student attending a special need school in Kuningan. This study used qualitative case, case study methods to analyze the cases in detail. To assess the data’s naturalness, observations and interviews were used to gather the data. And to investigate the difficulties faced by autistic students writing poems. The research was done at a special school in Kuningan and included one student with autism among seven other students. Results indicated that autistic students utilized motivation in social-emotional strategies. It was also noted that students with autism found vocabulary, tenses, and rhymes to be a challenge in writing poems. But she also learned how to overcome vocabulary by using cognitive translation strategies to acquire new vocabulary she didn't know, and using tenses by asking questions about it using social-emotional clarification strategies

Abstract

The purpose of this research is to ascertain the impact of metacognitive methods on students' reading comprehension as well as the attitudes of students about their usage. According to(Navarro, 2021), metacognition is the awareness of and control over one's own thinking and learning processes. Quantitative research is carried out using an experimental research design. Tests and questionnaires were employed by researchers as data collection tools. In this research, two classes—X.6 (Control Class) and X.7 (Experimental Class)—were chosen using cluster random sampling. According to the findings, the experimental group's average post-test score was 83.29, whereas the control group's was 78.57. The independent sample t-test was shown to have a lower (two-tailed) significance of 0.010 (0.010 0.05). Then, in the control class, 0.010 (0.010 0.05) is shown. As a result, Ho is considered unacceptable but Ha is welcomed. Conclusion: Students' reading comprehension is impacted by metacognitive tactics used in reading instruction.In addition, the researcher also got the results from the questionnaire data, the majority of experimental class students agreed and strongly agreed on the three items given on the affective, behavioral and cognitive aspects. It can be assumed that most of the experimental class students were influenced by Metacognitive Strategies in improving reading comprehension
