The researcher used a qualitative research method to analyze the data which had been analyzed by utilizing the interactive model of data analysis which employs data collection, data condensation, data display, and conclusion. The results of this study lead to several points which are: (1) teachers’ understanding of the student-centred learning paradigm is quite well and SCL has been implemented roundly in SMA 10 Luwu despite several shortcomings that still occur in the learning process, (2) teachers mostly implement some methods of SCL which are auditory intellectually repetition (AIR) learning method, brainstorming method, cooperative script method, and cooperative integrated reading and composition (CIRC), and (3) the weakest aspect of reading engagement that should be highlighted is from cognitive aspects. Specifically, the point of students does not use comprehension strategies well. This is due to students’ low mastery of vocabulary.

This method, by engaging students in real-world tasks and practical assignments, fosters contextualized learning, enhances student involvement, and stimulates critical and communicative competence in the learners. Moreover, real-life context and interactive tasks used in class foster more in-depth learning as well as greater student motivation and have increased learners’ confidence to produce in English. Thus, this study underlines CBI as an effective teaching method that equips learners with the language and the profession-relevant skills that are essential in the hospitality industry.

Abstract

The lack of attention given in scholarly research to the particular requirements of Public Administration has resulted in a knowledge deficit to suit students' interests in this discipline. Prior research has predominantly examined the quantitative dimensions of vocabulary acquisition while neglecting to adequately consider the qualitative aspects, including comprehension and language use, in a contextually appropriate manner. This study aims to fill in these knowledge deficits by investigating vocabulary themes or topics related to Public Administration, evaluating existing instructional approaches and challenges, and suggesting enhancements to bolster students' English language proficiency in Public Administration. The study employs a qualitative methodology, including an open-ended questionnaire and in-depth interviews with four lecturers and 100 first-year students from three universities in South Sulawesi, Indonesia. The findings revealed that the English for Public Administration curriculum requires a diverse vocabulary of topics from administration, management, and governance to more nuanced areas such as economics, finance, taxation, social and ethics, technology and digitalization, leadership, and regulation and law. Various teaching and assessment strategies regarding instructional methods, including interactive and collaborative methods, technology integration, and contextual learning, suggest the importance of engaging students with diverse and practically relevant content to prepare them for the multifarious nature of public sector roles. Students, however, found some challenges in the complexity of the Public Administration vocabulary, highlighting the need for tailoring educational strategies, such as project-based learning and vocabulary reinforcement techniques, to overcome these obstacles. The study's findings have substantial implications for policymakers, curriculum developers, and lecturers specializing in public administration education.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the results of empirical research on the corpus linguistics approach in identifying or building vocabulary in English for Specific Purposes (ESP). In ESP, the corpus-based approach has been used in determining specific vocabulary that learners will need within a particular discipline. This study tried to determine how the corpus identifies word lists through a brief overview of the article's reviewed subject. Forty selected articles of 2028 were collected by journals indexed by Scopus, Google Scholars, and Crossref from 1980-April 2022. The results have shown that studies on corpus in ESP are still less attractive among researchers than studies in other fields. There is a lack of publications from year to year, and it even tends to decrease. In addition, many different fields of study have not been the author's concern in building a corpus, such as administration, anthropology, or others. Also, needs analysis and expert validation seem to be ignored, yet they are essential indicators in designing teaching products. So, for further research, it is highly recommended to consider the gaps mentioned to conduct more studies related to corpus compilation in ESP, especially in several fields of science that have never been done before.

Abstract

This research analyzes the types of hedonism present in James Cameron's movie Titanic using Weijer's (2012) theory and applies Freud's (2010) psychoanalytic approach to examine these hedonistic behaviors. Additionally, the research assesses the effects of hedonism based on Veenhoven's (2003) theory. The findings reveal 26 instances of hedonistic behavior, with psychological hedonism being the most prevalent among the four identified types: psychological hedonism, ethical hedonism, hedonistic egoism, and hedonistic utilitarianism. Through the psychoanalytic lens, the id is identified as the dominant structure driving these behaviors. Furthermore, the study indicates that the characters in the film predominantly experience positive effects from their hedonistic actions.
