Abstract

Katak sawah Fejervarya cancrivora. merupakan salah satu amfibi yang digunakan baik untuk komoditas jual beli maupun sebagai bahan konsumsi. Amfibi merupakan hewan yang hidup di dua alam dan menjadi inang perantara atau definitif bagi cestoda parasite salah satunya Spirometra sp. (Cestoda: Diphyllobothriidae). Amfibi yang terinfeksi parasit jika dikonsumsi menyebabkan penyakit zoonosis yang dikenal sparganosis. Sejauh ini penelitian mengenai cestoda pada katak F. cancrivora di daerah Leuwiliang, Bogor, Jawa Barat belum ada. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk melakukan identifikasi secara morfologi cestoda dan menganalisis prevalensi dan intensitas infeksi cestoda terhadap F. cancrivora, juga menguji korelasi antara berat badan dan jenis kelamin inang terhadap jumlah cestoda parasit. Penelitian ini menggunakan 100 ekor katak F. cancrivora untuk dicari ada tidaknya cestoda. Identifikasi dilakukan dengan melakukan pengamatan spesimen dengan menggunakan mikroskop cahaya, Analisa korelasi dilakukan dengan menggunakan uji korelasi Spearmann test. Hasil pemeriksaan menemukan larva cestoda parasit dari genus Spirometra yang memiliki habitat pada paha dan rongga tubuh katak. Total prevalensi 36% dengan intensitas serangan 1-9 individu/ekor. Hasil pengujian statistika dengan uji Spearmann test menghasilkan nilai signifikan diatas 0,05 sehingga tidak ada korelasi antara berat badan inang dan jenis kelamin terhadap jumlah cestoda pada katak hal ini diduga disebabkan karena adanya sistem immunoregulasi pada katak F. cancrivora sehingga menyebabkan katak dapat mempertahankan laju pertumbuhannya dalam serangan cacing cestoda partasit.

Abstract

Rats can serve as a reservoir of diseases because the parasites within rats can be transmitted to humans and other animals. One of the parasites comes from the phylum Nematoda. This study aimed to identify the nematode species found in rats, determine their prevalence and intensity in Kalimantan Island. This study used 20 carcasses of rats from Kalimantan Island stored in the wet collection of MZB (Museum Zoologicum Bogoriense) BRIN Cibinong-Bogor. Identification was carried out by observing and measuring the nematodes found using a light microscope and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). The nematode species were then calculated for prevalence and intensity in each host. In this study, four species of nematodes, including Subulura (Murisubulura) andersoni (10% and 11-35), Subuluridae gen. sp. (80% and 1-53), Mastophorus sp. (25% and 1), and Physocephalus sp. (25% and 5), were found. Kalimantan Island is a new record area for S (M.) andersoni, Mastophorus sp. and Physocephalus sp. This needs further research to identify Subuluridae gen.sp. and its distribution area in Indonesia.

Abstract

Diopatra claparedii Grube, 1878, is a tubicolous polychaete species widely used as fishing bait by local anglers in Cilacap, Central Java, Indonesia. Little is known about its biological characteristics despite its ecological and economic importance. This study aimed to examine the survival rate, growth, metabolic rate, and osmoregulatory capacity of D. claparedii under different salinity conditions. The experiment was conducted using plastic containers (20 × 30 × 25 cm) filled with a muddy substrate and water at four salinity levels: 10, 15, 20, and 25 ppt, with each treatment replicated five times. The results showed that the survival rate of D. claparedii ranged from 87% to 93%, while its growth varied between 0.17 and 0.58 g. The metabolic rate, measured in terms of oxygen consumption, ranged from 0.201 to 0.467 mg·g-¹·h-¹. The  osmoregulatory capacity of the worms varied between 1.26 and 1.54 mOsm·kg-¹ solvent. Statistical analysis indicated that salinity did not significantly affect survival (p> 0.05). However, it significantly influenced growth, metabolic rate, and osmoregulatory capacity (p< 0.05). The results suggested that a 15–25 ppt salinity range was more favorable for the species, with 20 ppt being the most optimal level for its maintenance and growth. This study highlights the potential for cultivating D. claparedii under controlled conditions, providing a sustainable alternative to wild harvesting. As polychaete farming has been successfully implemented in several countries, similar efforts could be applied in Indonesia to support local fisheries while conserving natural populations.
