Abstract

Controlling downy mildew caused by Perenosclerospora philipinensis in maize plants is currently dependent on the use of synthetic pesticides; therefore, it is necessary to develop biocontrol agents as a sustainable alternative control. Filtrate cultures of biocontrol agent fungi consist of antibiotics, enzymes, and secondary metabolites that are antimicrobial in nature. We conducted the research from July to August 2024 at the Plant Disease Laboratory of the Department of Protection, Faculty of Agriculture, and the Biochemistry Laboratory of the Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, Hasanuddin University. This study had four parts: (1) identifying the morphology of biocontrol agent isolates and pathogenic fungi; (2) measuring growth diameter of antagonist fungi;(3) testing filtrate cultures for their ability to inhibit pathogens; and (4) testing filtrate cultures for their ability in vigor of sprouting on corn seeds. Based on morphological identification, the four biocontrol agent isolates are Trichoderma, Gliocladium, Penicillium, and Aspergillus flavus, with the best growth diameter on the Trichoderma, which is 8.5 cm on seven days. The filtrate cultures performed the best in the inhibition test on P. philipinensis, exhibiting spore damage percentages of 70-74%. The vigor test performed best on    Trichoderma and Aspergillus flavus, with growth potential (GP) of 100% and 63%, respectively. Filtrate culture with biological agents has good potential for P. philipinensis spore inhibition and corn seed germination.

Abstract

Jakarta is the province with the highest population density in Indonesia and is also one of the main international gateways to enter Indonesia. These conditions cause a high risk of transmission COVID-19 in Jakarta. One of the government's decisions was applying the Large Scale Social Restrictions (PSBB) policy in Jakarta. This study is a documentation study with Sabatier and Mazmanian's top-down approach that aims to analyze the extent impact of policy implementation, in terms of the policy objectives and community compliance. Compliance analysis uses the results of the Covid-19 Outbreak Survey and Google mobility index. The result shows the compliance of the community in policy implementation. The impact of the PSBB implementation can be seen from the value of the Reproduction number (Rt), which has decreased since the PSBB policy was implemented. Based on those data, it can be concluded that the implementation of the PSBB in Jakarta has been going and implemented well; thus, the consistency from the community and also local government needs to be well maintained.

Abstract

This study investigates the determinants of financial distress in infrastructure companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) during 2020–2024 using survival analysis with the Cox proportional hazard model. The analysis focuses on five firm-level indicators: leverage, profitability, firm size, free cash flow, and sales growth. Survival time until financial distress and event status were constructed to enable longitudinal modeling. Descriptive statistics, Kaplan–Meier estimation, and log-rank tests were employed to explore group differences in survival probabilities, followed by Cox regression to identify key predictors. The results demonstrate that leverage and free cash flow are the most significant determinants of financial distress. A one-standard-deviation increase in leverage raises the hazard by more than twenty-five times, while higher free cash flow reduces the hazard to about 39% of its baseline. Profitability, firm size, and sales growth do not exhibit statistically significant effects. These findings emphasize the dual role of debt burden and liquidity as critical drivers of financial resilience in capital-intensive infrastructure firms. The study provides practical implications for different stakeholders. For managers, it highlights the need to strengthen liquidity management and avoid excessive debt dependence. For investors, leverage and free cash flow indicators serve as reliable early warning signals of potential distress. For regulators, the results underline the importance of monitoring firm-level liquidity and leverage alongside traditional solvency measures to safeguard sectoral stability.

Abstract

Corn continues to be a crucial food crop in Indonesia, often serving as a rice substitute. Additionally, it holds strategic importance due to its substantial impact on economic stability. Production in Enrekang Regency has experienced fluctuations. Several factors contribute to declining corn production, one of which is the invasion of new pests that cause severe crop damage, Spodoptera frugiperda (J.E. Smith), known as Fall Armyworm (FAW). The pest targets the plant's growing point, potentially causing shoot failure and stunted growth, leading to reduced corn productivity. Based on this background, research is needed on the pest attack rate. The FAW on corn as part of efforts to monitor its presence. This research was conducted in Enrekang Regency, which collected field data on infestation intensity, and then integrated them with pest damage intensity assessment criteria. The observation found that FAW infestation intensity in the Cendana, Maiwa, and Enrekang Districts of Enrekang Regency ranges from low to moderate. However, the resulting damage is significant, particularly during the vegetative phase of the plants.
