Abstract

The aims of this research is to describe the implementation, problems and the solutions of problems in the teaching speaking by combining of stick puppet and role play for the eighth grade students of MTsN Kedungjati in the schooling year of 2016/2017. This research uses descriptive qualitative research. The participants of the research are the English teacher and students of VIIIB of MTsN Kedungjati. The techniques used to collect the data are observation, interview and documentation. While the technique of data analysis are data condensation, data display and conclusion  and verification. The result of the research are: (1). The implementation of teaching speaking by combining of stick puppet and role play divided into three steps, they are: pre activity ,Whilst activity , Post activity (2). The problems of the implementation of teaching speaking by combining of stick puppet and role play: The class becomes crowded,  the students are difficult to pronounce the words, and  some of the students do not master the script. (3). The solutions of the problems are the teacher asks the students to keep silent and pay attention the other groups, gives the evaluations and straighten of students’ mistakes  in pronunciation, the students are given enough time to memorize the script and bring the dictionary.

Abstract

This research is conducted to explain the implementation, the problems, and the solutions of problems in the Implementation of Sandwich Graphic Organizer in Teaching Writing to the Tenth Grade Students of SMAN 1 Jiwan in the schooling year of 2016/2017. This research uses descriptive qualitative research. The participants of the research are the English teacher and students of X-A class of SMAN 1 Jiwan. The research uses purposive sampling technique. The techniques which are used to collect the data are observation, interview, and documentation. While, the techniques of the data analysis are: data condensation, data display, and conclusion and verification. The results of this research are the teacher prepares syllabus, RPP, and the papers of picture Sandwich Graphic Organizer. The steps are pre-activities, whilst-activities, and post-activities. Otherwise, some students get difficulties in managing their time, some students make mistakes in using V2 that is used in writing recount text, some students get difficulties in expressing their ideas from Indonesian to the English language because of minimum of vocabulary, and some students forget to write a capital letter in the beginning of the sentence and full stop in the ending of the sentence. Then, the solutions of problems in the implementation Sandwich Graphic Organizer are: the teacher explains again about the steps of using technique Sandwich Graphic Organizer, the teacher divides the time of the students when the students should write the outline and when the students should develop their outline, the teacher gives the command for the students to open their dictionary to check the list of verb 2, the teacher asks the students to open their dictionaries when they are difficult in translating their ideas, and the teacher asks the students to pay attention to the punctuation when writing.This research is conducted to explain the implementation, the problems, and the solutions of problems in the Implementation of Sandwich Graphic Organizer in Teaching Writing to the Tenth Grade Students of SMAN 1 Jiwan in the schooling year of 2016/2017. Abstract

The purposes of the research are to describe the implementation, advantages and disadvantages, and solution from disadvantages of teaching reading by using Cornell Note strategy. The research uses descriptive qualitative research as approach and type of research. The sources of data are social situation, participant, and document. The techniques of collecting data are observation, interview, and documentation. To know the validity of the data, the researcher uses methodology triangulation. The technique of data analysis are data condensation, data display, conclusion and verification.The result of the research shows that the implementation of Cornell Note strategy has three steps included pre-activity, whilst- activity, and post- activity. The pre-activities include greeting, praying, checking students’ attendence and explaining the purpose of the meeting. The whilst- activities, the teacher explains how the procedures to read the text by using Cornell Note strategy. The procedures are prepare the worksheet, takes note in right column, write the question in left column, summarize information in bottom space, recite the note. Lastly, post- activities include reviewing and making resume of the material. The advantages are; first, can help the students to analyze the important information in the text. Second, motivate to read a text. Third, train the students’ concentration. Lastly, make the students enjoy in learning reading. Meanwhile, the disadvantages are; first, the students are difficult to know the meaning of the word in the text and make the question with correct structure into English. Besides, the solutions for the disadvantages of implementation Cornell Note strategy are; first, the teacher gives axamples the students to make a simple question. Second, the students can search a difficult word in the dictionary. In this research, the researcher also gives suggestions for the teacher, students, the school and the onther researchers.

Abstract

Reading is one of the abilities of the students to master in English lessons. In reading a text students must be able to absorb the information conveyed by the author to the reader, because the essence of reading is knowing the information expressed in the text. Achieving the goal of reading in the application encounters several obstacles, including vocabulary mastery and low motivation to read to students. Knowing this, researchers used a reading strategy, cloze strategy. The purpose of this study was to determine the application of reading strategies using cloze strategy in reading descriptive text along with weaknesses and excesses. The researcher used qualitative descriptive research method to answer the hypothesis in the formulation of the problem. It can be concluded that the application of this reading strategy in the teaching and learning process has three steps, namely: pre-activities, whilst-activities and post-activities. While the advantages of this strategy are students enjoy reading lessons and students can absorb information in the text easily, while the weakness is the class becomes noisy in some activities.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan proses, kelebihan dan kekurangan dari implementasi metode Script Koperasi dalam pengajaran membaca pada siswa semester I Universitas PGRI Madiun. Jenis penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Metode skrip kooperatif dapat membuat siswa menikmati kegiatan belajar. Metode ini dapat memotivasi siswa untuk lebih baik dalam membaca kegiatan terutama memahami materi. Metode ini juga bisa membantu siswa untuk lebih kreatif dalam menyusun ringkasan dengan menggunakan kata-kata mereka sendiri. Mereka juga bisa memahami materi dengan baik. Selain itu, hal itu membuat siswa lebih fokus pada tugas mereka. Selain itu, dapat membantu siswa untuk lebih komunikatif dengan teman mereka untuk menceritakan pendapat mereka. Selanjutnya, metode ini membuat siswa berani menceritakan pendapat mereka di depan kelas. Yang terakhir, metode ini bisa membuat situasi kelas lebih hidup karena masing-masing kelompok memusatkan perhatian pada masalah mereka. Metode skrip koperasi juga memiliki kelemahan dalam pengajaran membaca. Pertama, kelas ramai karena banyak siswa yang ribut saat menceritakan pendapat mereka di kelompok mereka. Kedua, dosen kurang memperhatikan setiap kelompok karena dia hanya fokus pada beberapa kelompok yang nampaknya sangat serius dalam melakukan tugasnya.

Abstract

Di masa pandemi Covid-19 pembelajaran dilakukan secara daring. Banyak media  atau aplikasi yang dapat dimanfaatkan selama masa pandemi ini.  Salah satu aplikasi tersebut yaitu Microsof Team. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pelaksanaan pembelajaran membaca bahasa Inggris menggunakan aplikasi Microsoft Teams. Penelitian iniadalah penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Subjek penelitian ini adalah siswa SD yang berjumlah 30 anak. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan teknik observasi dan wawancara. Sedangkan tekhnik analisis data disajikan dalam bentuk uraian teks yang bersifat deskriptif. Dari analisis dan pembahasan dapat disimpulkan bahwa pembelajaran daring melalui media microsoft teams dapat mempermudah guru dan siswa dalam melaksanakan pembelajaran membaca bahasa Inggris selama pandemic-Covid 19 ini. Adapun langkah-langkah penerapan microsof team yaitu pada kegiatan inti peneliti menyampaikan bacaan bahasa Inggris melalui media microsoft teams. Setelah semua siswa jelas dengan teks bacaan yang diberikan, peneliti memberikan lembar kerja dan siswa mulai mengerjakan soal tersebut. Setelah itu, peneliti dan siswa membahas soal  secara bersama melalui aplikasi microsoft teams. Terdapat kendala yang di hadapi siswa saat melakukan pembelajaran membaca bahasa Inggris dengan aplikasi Microsoft Teams, seperti terkendala signal dan tidak memiliki paket data yang cukup. Penelitian ini sangat bermanfaat bagi para pendidik di masa pandemi agar dapat meningkatkan kualitas pembelajaran membaca bahasa Inggris para siswa.

Abstract

Introducing reading text from young learners should be supported by appropriate facilities and resources adequate infrastructure. Learning Reading should be managed in such a way as to create meaningful and enjoyable learning activities. The use of big book as a medium of learning is one of the efforts to understand the reading text for young learners. This research aims at knowing the application of Big Book in teaching student’s reading comprehension of the second grade students of elementary school. The research design in this study is qualitative approach. The data are collected by using observation, interview, and documentation. Meanwhile, techniques of analzying data are data reduction, data display, and drawing conclusion. The subject of the research is the second grade students, which consists of 13 female and 7 male. The researcher is successful to use big book to teach reading comprehension. The students feel happy and interested when using big book. The researcher asks the students to read aloud the reading text individually and in a group, and then gives questions about the content of the text. Students are able to understand the reading text using big book. Based on the findings of research, the researcher also recommends conducting further research on using of Big Book.

Abstract

Sebagai wujud dari pelaksanaan kurikulum merdeka terhadap matapelajaran Bahasa Inggris, maka perlu kiranya guru mulai untuk memperkenalkan mata pelajaran Bahasa inggris ini pada level pendidikan taman kanak-kanak atau usia dini. Dengan harapan, mereka sudah mulai mengenal kosakata dasar dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris. Tujuan dari kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah untuk memberikan Pelatihan Pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris untuk Guru TK dan juga Pembuatan Media Pembelajaran dengan Media Canva terhadap Ibu-Ibu POKJA 2 Kelurahan Selosari, Magetan. Metode dari kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini adalah dalam bentuk workshop dan dilakukan secara hybrid. Hasil dari kegiatan ini adalah, meningkatnya kemampuan mengajar Bahasa Inggris guru-guru TK yang ada di lingkup POKJA 2 Kelurahan Selosari, Magetan dan membuat media pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris dengan menggunakan media CANVA.
