Abstract

Hopscotch Game is one of the media in teaching speaking. It is purposed to help the students more interested in teaching-learning process. The objectives of this research are to describe: 1) the procedure of using hopscotch game in teaching speaking, 2) the advantages of using hopscotch game in teaching speaking, 3) the disadvantage of using hopscotch game in teaching speaking.This research was done at IKIP PGRI Madiun from September-December 2013. The subject of the study was the students of 1A of English Department of IKIP PGRI Madiun consisting of 30 students, it uses descriptive qualitative method for data analysis. The researcher did some steps such as pre activity, whilst activity, and post activity. In collecting the data, the researcher applied several techniques including observation, interview, and documentation.The result of the research shows that: 1) there are some procedures of using hopscotch, 2) hopscotch game makes students have fun in speaking class, and it can be a media to motivate students in the teaching-learning process. 3) the disadvantage of  hopscotch game is spending much time.Based on the result of this research, some suggestions are presented to the lecturer, and the students. The lecturer is expected to apply various kinds of approach or method such as hopscotch game in teaching speaking in order to make the teaching learning process more interesting and fun. The students are expected to practice speaking English actively without being afraid of making mistakes, because the lecturer will rectify and help them to be better in speaking English.Keywords:  Teaching Speaking, Media, Game, Hopscotch Game

Abstract

Riddle game is one of the good techniques in teaching speaking. The objectives of this research are to describe the application of riddle game in teaching speaking, identify the advantages, identify the disadvantages and identify the solution of disadvantages of riddle game.The researcher uses descriptive qualitative research. The sources of data taken from participants, social situation and document. In this research, the researcher uses purposive sampling. To collect the data, there are observation, interview and documentation. Data validity is triangulation. The data are analyzed by using condensation, display the data, verification and conclusion.The result of this research are (1) the application of riddle game in teaching speaking is divided into three steps: (a) pre-activities (b) whilst-activities (c) post-activities (2) The advantages of riddle game in teaching speaking makes the students active in learning process, happy, increase their vocabulary, able to pronounce some words well and confident to retell the story (3) The disadvantages: makes the class crowded and riddle game has limited time (4) The solution of disadvantages of riddle game is the teacher can manage the time well and able to control the students well in order to make a good atmosphere of the class.

Abstract

The objectives of this research are: (1) to describe teaching daily speaking by using telephone through question and answer technique, (2) to describe the advantages and disadvantages of teaching daily speaking by using telephone through question and answer technique to the first grade students of Department of English Teaching IKIP PGRI Madiun in the schooling year of 2013/2014.In this research, the researcher takes five students of 1B from the Department of English Teaching IKIP PGRI Madiun as the sample. The researcher uses purposive sampling technique. To get the data, the researcher uses observation, interview, and documentation. In this research, analysis data is done by using descriptive analysis qualitative.The results of the research are: (1) the use of telephone through question and answer technique in teaching daily speaking to the first grade students of Department of English Teaching IKIP PGRI Madiun is divided into three steps, namely pre- activity, whilst-activity, and post-activity, (2) The advantages of using  telephone through question and answer technique in teaching daily speaking to the first grade students of Department of English Teaching IKIP PGRI Madiun are: the use of telephone through question and answer technique in teaching daily speaking can increase students’ scores, it makes enjoyable learning, students can focus on teaching learning process, the students have a good chance to practice with their friends in the group. This makes them more active in learning speaking, Last, the use of telephone through question and answer technique increases the students’ confidence. Meanwhile, the disadvantages are: the class becomes noisy when the students practice with their friends in the group, and some students have low vocabularies so that the students can not speak fluently.

Abstract

The aims of this research are first, to know whether or not the use of pairing skype can increase the students speaking ability. Second, to know whether or not the use of Pairing Skype can increase students motivation. Third, to know the strenghts and weaknesses of pairing skype. The subject of the research was the students of 1A of English Department of IKIP PGRI Madiun consisting of 28 students. It was a classroom action research. The researcher did some steps for each cycle. They were planning, action, observation, and reflection. In collecting the data, the researcher applied several techniques including observation, interview, questionnaire, and test. The quantitative data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics. It compared between the scores of pre test (before implementing Pairing Skype) and post test (after implementing Pairing Skype), while the qualitative data were analyzed by using constant comparative method which consist of; comparing Incidents applicable to each category, integrating categories into their properties, delimiting theory, and writing theory. The results of this research are first, the use of pairing skype can improve students speaking skill. This is indicated by some factors as follows: (1) Students are able to express ideas and content. Students focused on the purpose and the main idea of the materials; (2) Students are able to make a good organization. Students could make effective organization of the materials; (3) Students are able to use the language. Students could use correct grammar and descriptive language to make strong impact; (4) Students are able to deliver the materials. Students can use eye contacts and gestures effectively. The improvement can also be seen from their results of the post-test. The means of the scores improve from cycle to cycle. The highest score of the post test 2 is 80 and the mean score is 75. Second, the use of pairing skype can improve students motivation. Students are active and always curious to know the next materials. Moreover, the students can work individually and also in group. The speaking ability of students improve from cycle to cycle eventhough some of students are still noisy.Keywords: Speaking Ability Pairing Skype, CCM

Abstract

The objectives of this research are: 1) to know how is the implementation of Brochure to teach reading for the eight grade students of SMPN 1 Jiwan, 2) to find out the advantages of the implementation of brochure to teach reading for the eight grade students of SMPN 1 Jiwan, 3) to find out the disadvantages of teaching reading descriptive text to the eight grade students of SMP N 1 Jiwan in schoooling year of 2016/2017. The research approach and type of this research is descriptive qualitative research. This research was held on SMP N 1 Jiwan, focus on the eight grade students. The source of data of this research are social situation, participant and document. The participant of this research are the students of class VIII G. In this research, the researcher as observer in the class. To get the data, the researcher uses observation, interview, and documentation. The technique of data analysis that used in this research are data condensation, data display, and drawing or verifying conclusion. The result of the research are 1) the implementation of Brochure as a media to teach reading divided into three stages, they are (a) pre- activities included greeting, checking students’ attendance, and build background knowledge, (b) whilst activities included giving the explanation about the materials, and the implementation of brochure as a media, (c) post activities included review the materials, asking the students difficulties, gives a conclusion, and closing. 2) the advantages and disadvantages of the implementation of brochure as a media. The advantages are to increase the students interesting in following teaching reading, this media can helps the students to finish their task to answer all the questions, and to makes the students do not feel bored in teaching reading process. While, the disadvantages by using brochure that are some students still passive during teaching reading process, the students have less vocabularies make the students feel difficult to translate the meaning of the text. Based on the research, the researcher gives some suggestion. The teacher is suggested to use this media especially in teaching reading descriptive text. The students should increase their vocabulary in order to makes the students be easier to understand the meaning of the text. The future researcher are suggest to conduct other research in english teaching especially for teaching reading.

Abstract

Study aims to explain the application of guidebooks in minimizing concerns on speaking class students of English Teachers IKIP PGRI MADIUN. Methodology of writing using methods developed for the study, developed teaching materials. Based on observations at the Teachers IKIP PGRI MADIUN third semester students of English Education courses are approximately 70% of the students who this concern when performing exams speaking. Data collection techniques in this study are observation, interviews, documentation, and testing during learning process to determine the speaking abilities of students. Outcomes of this study is in the form of guide books, articles published in national online journals is not accredited and is also manifested in the scientific seminar national and international scale. According to the research, high criteria, quite, low before was low 4 student, quite 24 students, and one student in terms of high pretest. Researchers suggest that efforts should be made to help reduce the level of student concerns are still high is to optimize the service
