Abstract

Every student has different characteristics and learning needs. This requires teachers to understand each student's characteristics individually and provide suitable teaching strategies. However, not all teachers have the ability to do this effectively. Digital technology can assist teachers in providing more diverse and engaging learning materials and methods for students. Still, many teachers are not familiar with or do not have sufficient knowledge in using digital technology in education. This dedication aims to enhance teachers' abilities in facing the challenges of increasingly complex learning in the digital era.The proposed solution is to provide training and workshops for teachers related to the concepts and practices of differentiated learning. The activities are carried out through blended learning methods using active and enjoyable teaching strategies such as think-pair-share, discussions, and Q&A. These activities take place over 2 semesters from June to November 2023. The results of the dedication show an improvement in teachers' knowledge and skills in differentiated learning. Teachers develop learning materials by introducing variations in the content, process, products, and learning environment. In its implementation, participants are very enthusiastic when applying differentiated learning processes.

Abstract

One of the Public Senior High Schools in Malang has been implementing an inclusive education system since 2009. This School has been trying to serve children with special needs hitherto. In one of the inclusive schools in Malang city, the number of students with special needs (the academic year 2017-2018) is recorded in the school document of 9 students with special needs and 37 students with special services (have health problems). However, it is indicated that the learning process in class is not suitable for the type of student needs in the class. This study aims to investigate the learning process in these inclusive schools. The current research is explained in a descriptive qualitative method. As a result, schools do not make curriculum modifications that are compatible with inclusive education. This school only has one special guidance teacher, and only he has attended a training program in inclusive education. In addition, there are indications that the teacher's attitude toward students with special needs is negative. The indication can be seen from the teacher's efforts in implementing learning. The teacher still uses a classical learning system that is not modified. Thus, it is necessary to improve services for students' diversity in schools, increase the number of special tutors, include them in inclusive education training programs, and make curriculum modifications that are appropriate for students with special needs. The teacher is also indicated to have a negative attitude towards students with special needs in the classroom.

Abstract

Climate change is a vital topic in elementary science education, yet it remains challenging for students to grasp due to its abstract nature. At the same time, many teachers face limitations in developing digital-based instructional media. This study aimed to create interactive learning media using Articulate Storyline for fourth-grade students and to empower teachers by involving them in both the development and implementation processes. The research employed the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, Evaluation). Field testing with 21 students showed a notable improvement in learning outcomes, with average pre-test and post-test scores of 51.66 and 86.38, respectively. The N-Gain score of 0.70 indicates that the media was effective in enhancing student understanding. Moreover, teacher participation in the development process contributed to improved digital literacy and pedagogical skills, especially in integrating technology into classroom instruction. The Articulate Storyline-based media proved to be both practical and effective for elementary science learning, supporting the goals of the Merdeka Curriculum, which emphasizes differentiated instruction and the integration of educational technology.

Abstract

This study aimed to examine empathy profiles and empathy dysfunction among Muslim adolescents involved in brawl and klithih behavior in Yogyakarta City high schools and to identify factors underlying their involvement. The research used a descriptive design combining quantitative and qualitative data. Participants were seven Muslim students from private high schools selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using an empathy scale and in-depth interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed descriptively using measures of central tendency and dispersion, whereas qualitative data were examined using Miles and Huberman’s model of data reduction, display, and conclusion drawing. The findings indicate that involvement in brawls and klithih is closely associated with empathy dysfunction, which is exacerbated by low emotional regulation and unsupportive family backgrounds. These results inform guidance and counseling services and can guide strategies to develop adaptive empathy among students at risk of violent behavior. The study enriches empirical understanding of adolescent empathy and school violence. This study has limitations in geographical scope, being restricted to Yogyakarta City schools, so the findings may not generalize to adolescents in regions with different sociocultural contexts. The study also focused mainly on individual factors, while external influences such as social environments, educational systems, and institutional roles were not systematically explored. Future research should broaden the participant context across diverse regions and deepen the analysis of structural dimensions that contribute to empathy dysfunction and youth violence. Future studies should also use participatory approaches involving students, teachers, and school communities to build a more holistic and applicable understanding.

Abstract

One of the common and yet not well understood learning difficulties is dyslexia. Most teachers in Indonesia are still not equipped with enough information or knowledge to enable them to identify this learning difficulty. As such, most students with dyslexia are undiagnosed and as a resulttheir learning needs are not properly met. This paper argues that identification and assessment are important steps to developingan appropriate learning plan for a student with dyslexia. The identification process can be done by teachers through careful and systematic observation. Further, steps of identification can be done through in depth interviews with both students and parents as well as other means of assessment such as assignment or standardized psychological testing. This paper also argues that in the case of dyslexia, early intervention will minimize children’s social and emotional challenges. At the elementary school level the psychological challenges can include low self-esteem, feelings of incompetence, and powerlessness which will easily lead a student with dyslexia to be the object of peer bullying. The absence of proper identification and assessment also often leads teachers and parents to misdiagnose dyslexic children as those with mental disabilities.
