Abstract

This study aims to formulate strategies to enhance the performance of marine and fisheries resource surveillance at the Marine and Fisheries Resources Surveillance Base (PSDKP) in Tual. The effectiveness of surveillance is a key factor in preserving resources and preventing illegal activities that harm the state. This research employs two main analytical approaches, the Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) and SWOT analysis, to identify and prioritize the most relevant strategies. The AHP results indicate that human resources (HR) have the highest weight (0.657), followed by infrastructure and surveillance systems (0.259), and policy (0.084). Based on the SWOT analysis, the prioritized strategies include enhancing HR capacity with a weight of 0.571, developing surveillance systems with a weight of 0.191, strengthening cooperation with a weight of 0.123, and advocating for policy and lobbying with a weight of 0.114. The implementation of these strategies is expected to improve surveillance effectiveness, reduce violations, and support the sustainability of marine and fisheries resources in the PSDKP Tual area.

Abstract

Ocean acidification afected marine organisms especially calcifying organisms, such as Halimeda sp. This study was conducted on June to September 2012 at laboratory of Research Center and Development for Marine, Coastal and Small Islands, Hasanuddin University. The aim of study  to determine the efect of acidic level on Calcium concentration and growth rate of calcifying macroalgae, Halimeda sp. The experiment design was used completely  random  design  with  three  treatments  and  three  replicates.  Analysis  variance  was  used  for  data analysis with advanced respon test. Tukey test was used to compare the diference between treatments. Water quality parameters were analyzed descriptively. The results showed that there was a significant diference of pH treatments on calcium concentration an d growth rate of Halimeda sp. The highest calcium concentration was found  at pH 8. In  conclusion, increasing pH level of media disturbed the calcifying  process of Halimeda  sp especially at pH level of 6, while growth rate of Halimeda sp was not afected wit h the decreasing of pH.

Abstract

Butini fish resources are endemic fish that must be sustainably managed in an ecosystem where butini fish require an integrated management plan involving all stakeholders. This study aims to 1) determine the sustainability status of butini fish resources based on the institutional dimension; 2) and determine the sensitive attributes in the institutional dimension of butini fisheries, the research was conducted in Lake Towuti, South Sulawesi Province, during January-March 2023. Data collection was done by field survey method. The institutional dimension was analyzed with Rappid Appraisal for Fisheries Sustainability (RapFISH) analysis to determine management strategies. The results showed that the sustainability status of butini fish resources in Lake Towuti for the institutional dimension is in the good enough category. The sensitive attribute in the institutional dimension is stakeholder participation with a leverage value of 8.78 while the fisheries management plan is 8.71.

Abstract

Seaweed is one of the leading fishery commodities in the coastal areas of South Sulawesi, with high economic potential. However, its utilization is still predominantly limited to the sale of raw products, resulting in limited economic value added for local communities. This Community Service Program was conducted to promote seaweed product diversification through the development of value-added food products, namely seaweed-based noodles and nuggets. The activity was carried out on May 10, 2025, in Borongkalukua Hamlet, Borimasunggu Village, Maros Baru District, Maros Regency, involving coastal communities as the main participants. The implementation methods included educational sessions, demonstrations and hands-on processing practices, as well as product packaging training. Evaluation was conducted using pretest and posttest approaches to describe changes in participants' responses regarding their knowledge, technical understanding of processing, and motivation. The results showed an increase in the percentage of positive responses across most measured indicators. Participants' knowledge increased from 5–15% before the training to 60–80% after the training, while motivation increased from 45–65% to 75–93%. Overall, the program indicated an improvement in the community's understanding of utilizing seaweed as a value-added product and increased participants' interest in developing local resource-based economic activities. This program has the potential to support capacity strengthening among coastal communities and promote the more sustainable utilization of marine resources.Rumput laut merupakan komoditas perikanan unggulan di wilayah pesisir Sulawesi Selatan yang memiliki potensi ekonomi tinggi, namun pemanfaatannya masih didominasi oleh penjualan dalam bentuk mentah sehingga nilai tambah ekonomi yang diperoleh masyarakat masih terbatas. Kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat ini dilaksanakan sebagai upaya mendorong diversifikasi produk rumput laut melalui pengolahan menjadi produk pangan bernilai tambah berupa mie dan nugget. Kegiatan berlangsung pada tanggal 10 Mei 2025 di Dusun Borongkalukua, Desa Borimasunggu, Kecamatan Maros Baru, Kabupaten Maros, dengan melibatkan masyarakat pesisir sebagai peserta utama. Metode pelaksanaan meliputi penyuluhan, demonstrasi dan praktik langsung pengolahan, serta pelatihan pengemasan produk. Evaluasi dilakukan menggunakan pretest dan posttest untuk menggambarkan perubahan respons peserta pada aspek pengetahuan, pemahaman teknis pengolahan, dan motivasi. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan adanya peningkatan persentase respons positif pada sebagian besar indikator yang diukur. Pengetahuan peserta meningkat dari 5–15% sebelum pelatihan menjadi 60–80% setelah pelatihan, sedangkan motivasi meningkat dari 45–65% menjadi 75–93%. Secara umum, kegiatan ini mengindikasikan adanya peningkatan pemahaman masyarakat terhadap pemanfaatan rumput laut menjadi produk bernilai tambah serta meningkatnya ketertarikan peserta untuk mengembangkan aktivitas ekonomi berbasis sumber daya lokal. Program ini berpotensi mendukung penguatan kapasitas masyarakat pesisir dan pemanfaatan sumber daya laut secara lebih berkelanjutan.
