Abstract

Early childhood development stimulation has a significant impact on their cognitive, motor, and social growth. The knowledge and practices of mothers in providing developmental stimulation are crucial, especially in communities facing social and economic challenges, such as fishing communities. This study aims to explore the knowledge, practices, challenges, and sources of information related to child development stimulation among mothers in Bone Regency. This study uses a qualitative approach with in-depth interviews. A total of 15 mothers with children aged 0-24 months were selected using purposive sampling. The collected data were analyzed using the Colaizzi method to identify key themes. The majority of mothers have basic knowledge about motor and language stimulation, but they lack understanding of social and cognitive stimulation. The stimulation practices they carry out focus on gross motor stimulation and language through daily conversations. The main challenges faced are limited time due to work as fishermen and economic constraints that affect access to information. The primary sources of information come from personal experience, family, and close friends, with few accessing health services or mass media. The results of the study emphasize the importance of enhancing maternal health education on social and cognitive child stimulation. Additionally, better access to information through effective channels is needed, especially for mothers in areas with time and economic constraints. Community-based education and outreach can improve mothers' understanding and practices in child development stimulation.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the most common diseases suffered by the elderly. Hypertension is also referred to as “the silent disease” because there are no signs or symptoms that can be seen from the outside. The development of hypertension runs slowly, but is potentially very dangerous. In the initial survey conducted by the researcher, it was obtained data on the number of elderly people who experienced the most hypertension in Nepo Village. The purpose of this study was to determine the correlation between age and blood pressure of elderly hypertension. The method used in this study uses a descriptive method with a quantitative approach. The population in this study were 38 elderly people. The sampling technique used Accidental sampling with a total sample of 27 people according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Measurement of blood pressure using a Sphygmomanomater or Tensimeter (blood pressure measuring device), the use of an observation sheet to record the results of measuring the blood pressure of the elderly and informed consent as a statement of the elderly's willingness to become respondents which contains general elderly data such as identity. The results of statistical tests using the chi-square test obtained a correlation of age with systolic blood pressure p 0.046 <α 0.05 and a correlation of age with diastolic blood pressure p 0.044 <α 0.05, so it can be concluded that there is a correlation between age and blood pressure in elderly hypertension.

Abstract

Academic stress has become one of the most prevalent psychological problems among high school students due to increasing academic demands, including excessive assignments, examinations, academic competition, and expectations to achieve high academic performance. One behavioral factor that is considered to contribute to academic stress is academic procrastination, which refers to the intentional delay in initiating or completing academic tasks despite being aware of the potential negative consequences. This study aimed to examine the relationship between academic procrastination and academic stress among Grade XI special-class students at SMAN 7 Wajo. A quantitative analytical study employing a cross-sectional design was conducted among 35 students selected using a total sampling technique. Data were collected using the Ferrari Academic Procrastination Questionnaire and the Educational Stress Scale for Adolescents (ESSA). Statistical analysis was performed using Fisher's Exact Test with a significance level of 0.05. The results revealed a statistically significant relationship between academic procrastination and academic stress (p = 0.015), indicating that students with higher levels of academic procrastination were more likely to experience greater academic stress. These findings suggest that delaying academic tasks may increase psychological pressure through poor time management and the accumulation of academic workload. In conclusion, academic procrastination is significantly associated with academic stress among Grade XI special-class students at SMAN 7 Wajo. Schools are encouraged to develop intervention programs focusing on self-regulation, effective time management, and adaptive coping strategies to reduce procrastination and improve students' psychological well-being.

Abstract

Background: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a major health problem in the elderly, often leading to complications, including impaired peripheral circulation, often accompanied by neuropathic pain. Therefore, foot activity therapy, including Buerger Allen exercises and hydrotherapy, is necessary to improve peripheral blood circulation. Purpose: This study aims to prevent complications of T2DM by improving peripheral blood circulation, as indicated by changes in Ankle Brachial Index(ABI) valuesand the intensity of neuropathic pain in the elderly. Methods: This quantitative study used a True Experimental Design with a pretest-posttest control group design. The study was divided into three groups: Buerger Allen exercise, hydrotherapy, and a control group. The sample consisted of 45 elderly individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), selected using a simple random sampling method. This study was conducted in the Tempe District, Wajo Regency. Data analysis used a paired t-test to determine the effect of the three foot activity therapies. Data were analyzed using SPSS with a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: The study showed that the Buerger Allen exercises and hydrotherapy groups experienced significant changes in ABI valuesand neuropathic pain intensity before and after therapy (p-value 0.000). Meanwhile, the control group showed no significant changes in ABI values or neuropathic pain intensity from the pretest to the posttest (p-value  1.000). Conclusion: It can be concluded that the Buerger Allen exercises and hydrotherapy groups can improve peripheral blood circulation compared to the control group, thereby preventing complications associated with type 2 diabetes in the elderly.

Abstract

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a prevalent chronic metabolic disorder among the elderly, characterized by elevated blood glucose levels and a high risk of complications, including impaired peripheral circulation. Older adults are particularly susceptible due to physiological decline and reduced physical activity. The Buerger Allen exercise is known to enhance peripheral blood flow and assist in controlling blood glucose levels. Purpose: To examine the effect of Buerger Allen exercises on peripheral circulation among elderly individuals with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Method: A quantitative quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach was applied. The intervention involved performing Buerger Allen exercises three times per week for two weeks, with each session lasting 17 minutes. The study included 10 elderly participants residing in Atakkae Village, with data collected at the Salewangeng Community Health Center. A total sampling technique was employed, resulting in a sample size of 10 respondents. Results: The mean Ankle Brachial Index (ABI) increased from 0.94 mmHg (pretest) to 0.99 mmHg (posttest), indicating improved peripheral circulation. Additionally, the average random blood glucose (RBG) level decreased from 323.6 mg/dL to 308.3 mg/dL after the intervention. Statistical analysis yielded a p-value < 0.05 for both parameters, signifying a significant effect of the Buerger Allen exercise on peripheral blood circulation and glucose reduction. Conclusion: Buerger Allen exercises are effective in enhancing peripheral blood circulation and lowering blood glucose levels among elderly patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus.
