Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: Physical literacy is crucial for the mental health and quality of life of university sports students, yet a research gap exists in understanding how these constructs interact through a gender-sensitive lens, particularly within sports education programs where psychological distress is rising despite high physical competence. Objectives: This study aims to analyze the relationship between physical literacy, mental health, and quality of life among sports students, considering the role of gender as a covariate. The research design used is quantitative with a descriptive correlational approach. Method: The research sample consisted of 211 students from the Faculty of Sports and Health Education, Indonesia University of Education. The instruments used included the Perceived Physical Literacy Instrument (PPLI), Short Mental Health Scale (SKM-12), and WHOQOL-BREF. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics, classical assumption tests, multiple regression, and ANCOVA. Result: The results show that the average scores for physical literacy, mental health, and quality of life are in the moderate to high range with a normal and homogeneous data distribution. Multiple regression analysis shows that mental health has a significant effect on quality of life (B = 1.217; p < 0.001), while physical literacy has no significant effect (B = 0.171; p = 0.072). Simultaneously, both variables were able to explain 52.6% of the variation in students' quality of life (R² = 0.526; p < 0.001). ANCOVA analysis confirmed that the effect of mental health remained significant after controlling for gender, while physical literacy and gender differences were not significant. Conclusion: These findings indicate that mental health is the primary predictor of student athletes' quality of life, while physical literacy plays a more supportive role. Intervention recommendations focus on strengthening mental health integrated with improving physical literacy to comprehensively support student athletes' well-being.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of the application of Game based Student Response systems (GSRS) in basketball learning on student learning experience. Using a quasi-experimental design with the Pretest-Posstest One Group Design model, the study involved 34 7th grade students of State Junior High Schools 14 Bandung KU 12-13 years old who were selected through random sampling techniques. Data were collected using questionnaire instruments and analyzed using the Paired T-Test statistical test through SPSS version 26. The results showed a significant improvement in the students’ learning experience after the implementation of GSRS, with an average posttest score higher than the pretest (p<0.05). The increase can be seen in the aspects of active involvement, material understanding, and student learning motivation. The results of the study show that the implementation of GSRS has a positive and significant influence on students’ learning experience, which is reflected in increased grades and a more even distribution of abilities among students. These findings indicate that GSRS is an effective method in improving the quality of students’ learning experience in basketball learning. This research makes an important contribution to the development of physical education learning strategies that integrate digital technology, especially in the context of basketball learning at the junior high school level in effectively improving the quality of student learning experience. These findings provide implications for the development of physical education learning strategies that are more adaptive to the needs of the digital native generation in the future.

Abstract

The writing of this article aims to analyze the relationship between physical literacy and physical fitness in physical education learning at state junior high school throughout the city of Bandung. The main problem in this study is the low motivation and participation of students in physical activities which has an impact on decreasing the level of physical fitness. This study uses a descriptive quantitative approach with a correlational method. This study involved 281 grade VIII students in three state junior high schools in Bandung City, namely State Junior High Schools 9 Bandung, State Junior High Schools 40 Bandung and State Junior High Schools 50 Bandung with age group 13-14 years old who were selected through cluster random sampling technique. Physical literacy data was collected using a questionnaire instrument (PLAYself) and physical fitness data was measured through the V-Sit and Reach, 60-second Sit Up, 30-second Squat Thrust and PACER Test. Data analysis included the Kolmogorov-Smirnov normality test, the Compare Means (Means) linearity test, and the Spearman’s rho Rank correlation test. The results showed a positive and significant relationship between physical literacy and physical fitness (rs = 0.176, p = 0.003). These results indicate a positive correlation between physical literacy and students physical fitness. Although this correlation is very weak, these findings demonstrate that physical literacy remains a crucial component in supporting physical fitness improvement through physical education provided in schools. Thus, it is nesessary to have physical education learning that is oriented towards the development of comprehensive physical literacy.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the relationship between physical literacy and physical fitness in physical education learning in grade XI high school students throughout the city of Bandung. The research uses a quantitative method with a correlational approach. The research subjects amounted to 324 students who were selected through cluster random sampling techniques  from three State High Schools in the city of Bandung. Physical literacy was measured using the Physical Literacy Assessment of Youth (PLAY) instrument, while physical fitness was measured using the Nusantara Student Fitness Test (TKPN). Data analysis includes instrument validity and reliability tests, descriptive analysis, Pearson correlation tests, and simple linear regression analysis. The results showed that the level of physical literacy of students was in the medium category and there was a positive and significant relationship between physical literacy and physical fitness (p < 0.05), although the strength of the relationship was relatively low. Regression analysis shows that physical literacy contributes significantly to students' physical fitness. The conclusion of this study shows that physical literacy has an important role in supporting students' physical fitness, so strengthening physical literacy needs to be systematically integrated in physical education learning in schools.
