Abstract

Mathematics is an important subject to be learned by all children. Visually impaired children experience obstacles in following the process of mathematics learning caused by abnormalities. Visually impaired students experience obstacles in the process of thinking at the disequilibrium stage and low understanding of concepts when studying mathematics. It caused them to experience difficulties when doing math problems. Assistive technology is a technology created specifically to improve or maintain the functional ability of children with special needs in order to accomplish tasks that hard for them to do. Assistive technology for visually impaired children is made by maximizing the abilities that the children still possess and helping them to get a clearer mathematical concept. This article is a literary study which aims to provide information about the difficulty for the visually impaired students in mathematics learning and assistive technologies that have been developed to support the learning. This article can be used as the basis for developing new assistive technology in mathematics learning. Assistive technology is needed to help children with visual impairment in following the learning of mathematics and to optimize the ability of the children in learning mathematics.

Abstract

This article discusses the application of multiple intelligences theory in learning at school. The discussion begins by outlining the development of the concept of intelligence and multiple intelligences. Followed by explaining the impact of multiple intelligences theory in the field of education and learning in schools. The next section describes the implementation of multiple intelligences theory in classroom learning practices, namely how providing student learning experiences facilitated by teachers can stimulate students' multiple intelligences. Evaluation of student learning outcomes from the perspective of the application of multiple intelligences theory should be carried out using authentic assessments and portfolios which better facilitate students expressing or actualizing their learning outcomes in various ways according to the strength of their type of intelligence.

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to test the effectiveness of self-instruction techniques to improve student’s oral communication skills in the learning process. This study was an experimental study using a single case experimental with A-B designs. The subject was three students from tenth grade senior high school which had a problem with their oral communication during the learning process. Oral communication skills data were collected using Oral Communication Skills Observational Instruments. Data analysis techniques used were statistical analysis with percentage technique, and split-middle technique also clinical analysis technique which declared by significant other. The results show that after carrying out the self-instruction, subject’s oral communicating skills in the classroom learning process increases.
