Abstract

The issue of water management in Indonesia’s specific urban contexts, specifically in Surabaya as an industrial hub and Bali as a tourist destination, is of paramount importance due to its impact on public health and environmental sustainability. This study analyses water management and conservation factors by comparing two distinct urban areas. The research design employs Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modelling (PLS-SEM), which involves a specialised approach for analysing the complex relationships between variables. The results of the analysis indicate that community attitudes in Surabaya, facilitated by infrastructure and technology, significantly predicts intention to perform (β=0.334, p<0.001) and water management satisfaction (β=0.409, p<0.001). In contrast, collaboration with the government enhances environmental constraints (β=0.285, p<0.003) and water management satisfaction (β=0.140, p<0.044). In Bali, where water management is based on traditional practices, community attitudes do not significantly affect water management satisfaction (β=0.095, p>0.431). Still, perceived norms reduce environmental constraints (β=-0.134, p<0.039) and enhance the intention to perform (β=0.189, p<0.037). The role of personal agency in Bali is more significant in reducing environmental constraints (β=-0.187, p<0.025) and increasing intention to perform (β=0.198, p<0.013). In contrast, in Surabaya, only personal agency was significant in increasing water management satisfaction (β=0.132, p<0.003). These findings suggest that Surabaya requires an integrative approach, while Bali must strengthen its locally based water management practices and enforce stricter regulations in the tourism sector to protect water resources.

Abstract

Agriculture contributes significantly to food security and economic growth. A system for managing agriculture that is smart and based on financial capital and technology is needed to increase agricultural profits again. This research uses a mixed method with a sequential explanatory design, namely a causal-comparative study, and a grounded theory approach. Based on the results of multivariate statistical analysis tests, there are differences between traditional and modern farmers. Conventional and contemporary farmers have the same problems: lack of motivation to farm and insufficient availability of agricultural materials. The differences in farming capital, management and control, labor, and profits from farm products. Farmers need a system that can maximize agricultural yields by creating smart agriculture. This concept can be realized in a smart farming management system to control all pre-planting to post-harvest activities based on BUMDes fintech. Financial limitations make this fintech-based smart farming management system capable of being an alternative solution implemented in a hybrid manner so that all farmers can utilize it. Five features are available on the smart farming platform: information features, procurement of agricultural tools and materials, monitoring, and sales of farm and agricultural products. The advantages of a smart farming management system are increasing the productivity of farm products, improving the welfare of farmers, stabilizing market prices, improving the quality of agricultural products, opening up employment opportunities, and promoting agricultural products so that they have the potential to improve the socio-economic conditions of village communities.

Abstract

The Javanese language in the East Java province exhibits diverse dialects, such as the Kediri (Mataraman) dialect and the Lamongan (Arekan) dialect, which are geographically proximate. The goal of this study is to describe the different ways that phonological sounds change when the Javanese language is spoken, as well as the different ways that anaphoric sounds change when vowel and consonant phonemes are added, such as prosthesis, epenthesis, and paragoge. The research employs a qualitative descriptive method with an ecolinguistic approach. Interviews are used for data collection and acquisition, followed by note-taking and recording as the primary data reference. The analysis results reveal 33 differences in the phonological usage of the Javanese language between the Kediri (Mataraman) dialect and the Lamongan (Arekan) dialect. The classification of anaptyctic sound changes is distinctly evident in the use of the Javanese language. The dialects, in their daily usage, demonstrate two instances of change via prosthesis, two instances via epenthesis, and three instances via paragoge. The analysis identifies ecolinguistic factors influencing the phonological changes between these two dialects. Phonological changes occur as a result of contact with other languages or dialects, population migration, and social changes within the local community. The ecolinguistic study of anaptyctic phonological changes between the Lamongan and Kediri dialects indicates the influence of geographical, environmental, social interaction, and cultural factors.

Abstract

Quality education must be equally accessible, especially to students with special needs, such as those with visual impairments. This study aims to enhance the scientific literacy skills of students with visual impairments by using Braille-assisted UNO Chemistry Card media integrated with tourism ethnochemistry digital content. The method employed an experimental design, utilizing a quasi-experimental approach. The type of experiment used was the Non-Equivalent Pretest-Posttest One-Group Design. The study population consisted of 15 Grade-XII students with visual impairments at SMALB YPAB Surabaya. The test instrument comprised six questions developed based on scientific literacy competency indicators. The results of the dependent T-test on the differences in scientific literacy abilities of students with visual impairments before and after using the Braille-Assisted UNO chemistry card game integrated with ethnochemical content in elemental chemistry learning for grade XII revealed a significance value of p < 0.05, so that H0 is rejected. Thus, the research hypothesis that there is a difference in the scientific literacy skills of students with visual impairments after using the braille-assisted UNO chemical element card game media in chemistry learning for grade XII is accepted. The n-gain score showed an increase in the scientific literacy skills of students with visual impairments by 33% (5 students) in the high category and 67% (10 students) in the medium category. Educational card games with braille letters integrated with ethnochemistry digital content for students with visual impairments are novel contribution of this research.

Abstract

The implementation of Socio-Scientific Issues (SSI)-based learning has been widely carried out in developed countries that have received international attention in the field of science education. This study uses a mixed-method approach. The quantitative approach employs bibliometric analysis data, while the qualitative approach uses content analysis data based on a systematic literature review. The design used is a triangulation design with a one-phase model. The research data source uses the Scopus database from 2004–2023 with the search keywords “Socio-Scientific and Issue” and “Science Education.” The bibliometric data collection technique consists of three stages, namely defining the objective, selecting the sample, and statistical analysis. Meanwhile, the content analysis data collection technique uses the PRISMA model. The bibliometric results obtained 208 articles and were analyzed based on published SSI in Natural Science Education documents and authors, contribution of countries and affiliations, documents by subject area and co-occurrence network of the keywords, source articles of SSI, and citations. The content analysis results obtained 17 article studies included in the review with analysis based on study objective, methodology, main finding, and summary of discussion. Based on the results, it shows that the trend of SSI research from 2004–2023 has significantly increased with the highest research contribution from the United States. The most frequently studied influence of SSI in science education is scientific literacy skills, argumentation, reasoning, and problem-solving. The most frequently studied SSI topics are global warming and climate change. SSI-based learning strongly supports the implementation in science education, but teachers will face challenges in handling SSI because controversial issues will make it difficult to integrate with science content.
