Abstract

The purpose of this study is to provide an overview of 4 (four) competencies that must be possessed by teachers, namely Professional, Social Pedagogic, and Personality from graduates of the Open University (UT) S1 Study Program Elementary School Teacher Program (PGSD) from various regions in Indonesia. . The research method used in this research is descriptive evaluative. This research was conducted in 112 (one hundred and twelve) elementary schools (SD), both public and private. The total number of graduates who became respondents in this study was 182 (one hundred and eighty-two). Data was collected by distributing questionnaires to the principals of these schools. The results of this study indicate that 4 (four) competencies possessed by UT graduates generally fall into the good category. The four competencies that need to be paid more attention to are professional, especially those related to research/scientific works and as resource persons in educational activities. This is a recommendation for UT to prepare teachers for the competencies that need attention.

Abstract

Abstract

Enhancing Early Childhood Education (ECE) educators' digital media creation skills is crucial for innovative teaching, yet effective, practical professional development often remains a significant challenge. This article presents a detailed instructional design for an online training program, developed as an outcome of a community service initiative with a private ECE institution in Indonesia. This initiative involved its eleven educators, who possessed varied initial digital competencies, and aimed to address their specific needs. The design process employed a systematic needs analysis, integrating project-based learning and established andragogical principles to ensure relevance and practical application for adult learners. The resulting online program features a three-tiered competency structure (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced), where each level culminates in authentic media creation projects, fostering skills through learner-centered, reflective, and collaborative activities. This theoretically-grounded instructional design offers an adaptable model anticipated to significantly improve ECE educators' digital competencies and creative capacities, thereby enriching children’s learning experiences.

Abstract

This study investigates the extent to which university students’ readiness for Augmented Reality (AR) can enhance digital literacy in technology-integrated learning environments. Using a quantitative survey design, data were collected from 356 Educational Technology students at an open university. The study measured five dimensions of digital literacy and four indicators of AR readiness. Results revealed moderate to high digital literacy levels, with significant positive correlations between all AR readiness indicators and digital literacy domains. Multiple regression analysis showed that perceived usefulness and confidence in using AR were the strongest predictors of digital competence. These findings underscore AR’s role as a transformative medium for fostering 21st-century skills, especially when student readiness is addressed through targeted pedagogical interventions. The study offers empirical insights to inform curriculum design, emphasizing the integration of immersive technologies not only to support content delivery but to actively cultivate digital fluency.

Abstract

Indonesia’s rich cultural heritage faces challenges due to globalization and inadequate innovative educational methods. Objective: This study analyzes the need for Augmented Reality (AR)-based learning media to enhance cultural awareness in Indonesian elementary schools. Novelty: New insights into students’ perceptions and expectations towards the use of AR in local cultural learning. Methods: Using a quantitative, cross-sectional survey with purposive sampling (N=160, consisting of 150 students and 10 teachers), this study collected perceptions about traditional and AR-based cultural learning. Results: Findings from the study showed that 62% of students found traditional cultural learning uninteresting, while 87% expressed strong interest in AR due to its interactivity and ease of use. Conclusions: These findings underscore the potential of AR as a transformative tool for cultural education, urging policymakers and educators to adopt immersive technologies. Future studies could explore the long-term impact of AR on cultural retention.
