Kajian ini membincangkan epistemologi pendidikan AbdulHamid AbuSulayman (1936-2021) khususnya dalam konteks kerohanian dan instruksi dalaman tentang hubungan rumah tangga. Ia bertujuan memahami persoalan kekeluargaan dan rumah tangga ini dari konteks penafsirannya yang meluas terhadap maksud ayat mengikut semangat dan kehendak asal syariat. Metode kajian bersifat kualitatif berdasarkan penelitian pustaka dan tinjauan isi. Bahan kajian diperoleh daripada sumber primer dan sekunder yang terkait. Data dianalisis berasaskan pendekatan hermeneutik dan konteksual Abdullah Saeed dan Fazlur Rahman. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan pembaharuan epistemologis dan struktural yang diperkenalkan AbdulHamid AbuSulayman dalam karyanya “Marital Discord Recapturing Human Dignity through the Higher Objectives of Islamic Law” dalam proses pendidikan rumah tangga, yang dirumuskan berteraskan pendekatan dan pemahaman teks al-Qur’an dan hadith yang syumul yang meraikan kemaslahatan dan kebajikan kaum wanita dan kanak-kanak, serta pembelaan hak dan tanggungjawab mereka yang dijamin oleh hukum dan selari dengan fatwa-fatwa syariah yang mutakhir.

Makalah ini menyorot latar sejarah pertumbuhan mazhab Muktazilah yang timbul daripada pengaruh idea-idea falsafah Yunani yang membentuk tradisi diskursifnya yang khas yang berkembang dalam period-period permulaan sejarah intelektual Islam. Fahaman ini terkesan oleh perdebatan klasik antara mazhab rasional dengan mazhab tekstual yang membentuk idea-ideanya yang formatif dan teologi rasional yang dikembangkannya di abad klasik. Ia mengkaji konsep dan doktrin pemikiran yang dibangunkan dalam perkembangannya sejak zaman pertengahan ke abad moden serta karya-karya yang memberikan garis besar dan ikhtisar dari pemikirannya. Kajian bersifat kualitatif dari jenis penelitian pustaka dan tinjauan isi. Data-data diperoleh dari sumber-sumber primer dan sekunder yang terkait dan dianalisis secara deskriptif, normatif, historis dan jurisdistik bagi mendapatkan kesimpulan dan perumusan akhir. Penemuan kajian mendapati bahawa ideologi pemikiran yang dikembangkan Muktazilah bermaksud untuk merespon tantangan-tantangan luar yang menyimpang dari akidah Islam seperti fahaman zindiq, Majusi, manikeisme, ateisme, naturalis dan materialis yang ditangkis dengan senjata logika dan filsafat. Ini menyumbang kepada pembangunan ilmu kalam yang berkembang dalam sejarah Islam dan berpengaruh dalam konteks kekinian sebagai wahana pemikiran dan sarana dakwah yang berkesan yang dimanfaatkan oleh penganjur aliran neo-Muktazilah moden.

The paper aims to identify the essential methodology adopted by Sayyid Qutb in his classic work, tafsir Fi Zilal al-Qur’an. The work laid out highly profound interpretation and scriptural analysis of the Qur’an and its universal moral and political ideas based on cultural-linguistics and dynamic framework. The work set forth to expound socio-ethical principle of the Qur’an and its ideological postulate and implication in contemporary perspective. The study is based on qualitative approaches in the form of library and documentary survey. The data were obtained from related primary and secondary sources and analysed using descriptive, historical and analytical approaches. The finding shows that Sayyid Qutb had formulated an inclusive method of philosophical interpretation of the Qur’an that outlined his dynamic framework (haraki) of religious and ethico-legal views as its core ideological basis and premises. The pattern of thought and interpretation were influenced by this method in the development of his tafsir which underline his socio-political doctrine and philosophy and idealism which highlighted the essence of Islam and its underlying values in contemporary civilization.

This study analyzed Ismail Raji al-Faruqi’s (1921-1986) fundamental ideas of education from the perspective of IOK and tawhidic framework and his critical contribution in articulating modern Islamic worldview and expounding its progressive and inclusive outlook. It set forth to discusses the ideas of Islamization of knowledge as envisaged and propounded in his major works that highlight the doctrine of tawhid and its overarching principle such as Islamization of Knowledge: General Principles and Work Plan, Al-Tawhid: Its Implications for Thought and Life dan etc. The study is based on library research using qualitative approaches by documenting sources derived from some major works of al-Faruqi and other relevant materials. The data was analyzed using descriptive, analytical, and comparative method. The study found that al-Faruqi has bring forth universal Islamic worldview that propounded transcendental religious and philosophical outlook based on his rational and universal premises. His philosophical ideal was founded on critical methodology of tawhid that was instrumental in projecting his Islamization of knowledge movement and in propounding its scientific and rational outlook in order to revived the spirit of reform and reconstructing ijtihad and reclaiming the universal and creative ummatic world order.

The paper discusses the historical origins of Islamic movement in Malaysia since colonial era. This was developed from two underlying bases; the ideal of reform and Islamic vision that was meant to bring about national consciousness and renewed aspiration of pan-Islamism designed under the powerful force of the Ottoman Caliphate. It analysed the impact of this awareness in inspiring the movement for reform and reassertion of Islamic spirit and unity following the rising tide of Islam in broad socio-political context. The essential role of Syed Syaikh al-Hadi, Dr. Burhanuddin al-Helmy, Ustaz Abu Bakar al-Baqir, and Syed Muhammad Naquib al-Attas has marked unprecedented influence in the meaningful struggle for religious and intellectual development. The movement bring forth critical value and ideal of Islam that espoused for progressive and rational spirit and reconstruction of ijtihad and dynamic activism, based on inclusive moral and ethical norm and standard. This study is based on qualitative method that focus on library research and content analysis. The data were collected from documentary study of primary and secondary sources, and technically analysed using interpretative, descriptive, historical and comparative method. The finding shows that the movement has brought about fundamental reform by introducing the principle values and ideals of Islam and its underlying doctrine of tawhid and unity and in projecting the idea of Islamization. It has bring certain impact in influencing the governmental policy and direction towards incorporating Islamic values and tradition in socio-political context and framework by taking account of the principle of maqasid syariah (the higher objective of Islamic law) and its application at every communal sector

The article highlights the intellectual response of contemporary Muslims on the philosophical construct and relational concept of democracy and shura. This was traced from selected writings of its advocates that discussed philosophical and epistemological background and current democratic situation in the Muslim countries and its fundamental relations with Islamic political aspiration and its historical manifestation and scientific backdrop. The intellectual debate pertinent to the idea of democracy and its compatibility with Islamic principles were rigorously developed by Muslim activists and democrats represented by Rachid Ghannouchi, Ahmad Raysuni, Fazlur Rahman, Anwar Ibrahim, Siddiq Fadzil, Nurcholish Madjid, Mustafa Akyol, and etcetera. The study is based on qualitative approaches using descriptive and analytical technique. The finding shows the dynamic force of ideas formulated on the theoretical framework of democracy reinforced with textual evidence and in line with Islamic political principles (siyasah syariyyah) and its universal ummatic ideal (pax-Islamica). Its underlying structure was built upon universal ethical values that formed the basis of state ideology. It positively embraces its values and ideals projected in the context of nation-state, which uphold sublime vision toward shaping a sustainable, just and liberal order. Its approaches were in line with the principle of shura and constitutional ideas aiming to safeguard fundamental aspiration of the people and their legitimate right and interest and their collective voice.

The paper discusses the foundational role of al-Quran and Prophetic narrations (al-hadith) in Islamic intellectual history and its religious tradition. It looks into the cultural impact of its moral-spiritual teaching and its historical significance in developing and fulfilling its fundamental role and social obligation in delivering and justifying the principal ideal of morality and fairness, contributing to medieval civilization and the formation of higher ethical-legal framework, and its state-of-the-art manifestation as set forth in the tafsir of Risalah al-Nur by Said Nursi. The study is based on library research using historical and qualitative approaches and documentation technique. The finding shows that the position of al-Quran and hadith was vital in informing and shaping the historical concept and understanding and paradigm of tawhid and in reinforcing the religious belief and practice and spiritual consciousness of the ummah. In the context of modern commentary, its philosophical ideas and interpretation were brought forth by Said Nursi in Risalah al-Nur that contextualize its discursive history and outline its religious and scientific significance and transcendental values and its role in the current debates of the philosophy of science, revelation, and scripture.Artikel ini mengulas historisitas Alquran dan hadis serta perannya dalam sejarah Islam dan tradisi intelektual. Ia melihat kesan historis dan dinamika ajaran moral dan spiritualnya dalam menafsirkan pandangannya tentang nilai moralitas dan aspek sosio-historisnya, serta kontribusinya terhadap perkembangan sejarah peradaban, pembentukan hukum, dan manifestasi akliahnya yang dirumuskan dalam buku tafsir Risalah al-Nur oleh Said Nursi. Penelitian ini bersifat kualitatif dengan menerapkan metode kajian sejarah yang bersifat dokumentasi dan analisis isi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan keunggulan fungsi Alquran dan Hadis dalam membentuk pemahaman dasar sejarah tentang moral dan nilai-nilai moral serta pengaruhnya dalam memperkuat keyakinan tauhid dan psikologi keagamaan umat. Dalam konteks penafsiran dan signifikansi historisnya, wacana ini disajikan dalam buku Risalah al-Nur karya Said Nursi yang membahas pandangan hidup Alquran dan Hadis serta kesannya dalam membingkai pemahaman wahyu dan sejarahnya dalam konteks pemikiran filosofis dan hukum ilmiah.

This paper discusses Said Nursi’s Qur’anic interpretation, Risalah al-Nur and its historical background and foundational role in Islamic intellectual history and its religious tradition under the repressive secular modern Turkish Republic administration. It looks into the cultural impact of its moral-spiritual teaching and its historical significance in developing and fulfilling the fundamental role of Qur’anic revelation in delivering and justifying the principal of ethics and morality, and its cosmological values in guiding the formation of higher ethical-legal and civilizational framework. The study is based on library research using historical and qualitative approaches and documentation technique. The finding shows that the Risalah al-Nur has set forth through empirical and scientific method, the conclusive truth of the Qur’an and hadith paradigm, by way of similitude and comparison, which provide basic proof of the postulates of its inimitability and miraculousness, that was vital in strengthening the belief of tawhid and in reinforcing the religious and spiritual consciousness of the people. In the context of its interpretation and historical significance, the discourse presented in the Risalah al-Nur emphatically upheld the teaching of the Qur’an and hadith and contextualize its transcendental ideals, philosophy and values to modern life.
