This study is aimed at identifying linguistic features, indexing ethnic identities, and inter-ethnic solidarity in transmigration contexts. Data were collected through interview, documentation and ethnography of various transmigrate communities on Sumbawa island. The data were then analyzed qualitatively with the ethnography of speaking and interaction analysis. The study found that (a) Ethnic identities in the migrant areas can be linguistically identified in four forms: orang aida (to refer to Sumbawa people), orang kalembo ade (for Bima people), dengan batur (for Sasak people) and orang beli (Balinese people). (b) These people were identifiable in the way they articulate particular sounds: orang beli (the Balinese) were identified in terms of dominant use of alveolar retroflexed, orang batur (the Sasak) were identified in the way they marked use of alveolar retroflexed, and orang kalembo ade (the Bima people) were identified through their articulation of closed central vowel as open low front vowel. It was also found that the forms had been used to construct ethnicity and interethnic solidarity between participants. The use of ana and ente in interaction indicated solidarity regardless of differences in age and social status. This article discusses phonological, morphological, syntactical and sociolinguistic aspects of the Sambori language spoken by the people of Sambori and its surroundings on Mount Lambitu, Bima, West Nusa Tenggara. The language and its cultures are in the endangered situation due to internal factors (for example due to mixed marriage and migration) and external factors (for example, due to economic, demographic and political pressures). The study documents the language by identifying its dialectological relation with the locally dominant Bima language and with other languages in the region (e.g. Samawa language and Sasak language). Identification was conducted by using elicitation, documentation, interview, and recording. Elicitation was performed in face-to-face interviews with respondents guided by a list of basic words and morphosyntactic forms. Documents were also collected from various forms of oral documents (e.g. folklores, stories, historical accounts and legends) in the language. Interviews were given to adult male and female speakers who are knowledgable of the language and its culture. The data were recorded by using tape recorders and digital cameras. Linguistic analysis was lexicostatistictal and the results show that the the Sambori language is a dialect of the Bima language with differences at the basic word level, but these differences follow predictable patterns of vowel and consonantal changes.

Secara umum, program Pengabdian Kepada Masyarakat ini dilaksanakan dengan tujuan Menyampaikan materi tentang rubrik penilaian pembelajaran bahasa Inggris dan secara khusus tentang bentuk-bentuk penilaian otentik yang dapat diterapkan pada pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris di sekolah dasar. Kegiatan pengabdian ini dilaksanakan dengan melibatkan guru-guru bahasa Inggris Sekolah Dasar di Kabupaten Lombok Barat. Pealtihan dilaksanakan dalam tiga tahap, yaitu (1) penyampaian materi tentang penilaian pembelajaran bahasa dan penilaian otentik, (2) diskusi dan kerja kelompok mengembangkan rencana atau prosedur penilaian berdasarkan kompetensi dasar atau indikator yang telah ditetapkan, dan (3) presentasi hasil pengembangan dan revisi bersama rencana penilaian yang telah dikembangkan. Luaran dari kegiatan pengabdian ini adalah (1) pemahaman guru tentang penilaian pembelajaran bahasa Inggris, (2) pemahaman guru tentang penilaian otentik dan (3) keterampilan pengembangan penilaian otentik, prosedur dan instrumen penilaian.

Abstract: Research demonstrates that the extent to which teacher agency is achieved is influenced by personal and contextual conditions of possibility and constraints. This study identifies personal and contextual factors that influence teacher agency in overcoming student learning difficulties. Although there are many studies showing factors influencing teacher agency in various contexts, little research, if any, has been done on personal and contextual factors influencing teacher agency in overcoming students’ learning difficulties in the Indonesian higher education. This research filled the gap by examining the factors influencing teacher agency in overcoming student learning difficulties at a postgraduate English department at a government university in West Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. This research is a case study involving four (4) university teachers who teach at the department as the research participants who were selected purposively. Data of the study were collected through in-depth interviews. Semi-structured interview was employed in which open and close-ended questions about personal and contextual factors influencing teacher agency in helping students with learning difficulties were given. The data form the interviews were analysed using qualitative content analysis. Results demonstrated that a number of personal and contextual factors enabled and constrained teacher agency enactment when overcoming student difficulties in learning. Personal factors include sound pedagogical knowledge and teaching experience. Contextual factors involve having collaborative relationships among university teachers and students, and school management. As teachers work under varying constraints even within the same institution, further research needs to be conducted to uncover more factors influencing teacher agency. Berita Hoax menjadi wacana yang sensitif dalam dunia politik apalagi jika salah satu pihak menuduh yang lainnya menyebarkan hoax dan berbuntut panjang sampai ke ranah hukum. Bagi netizen milenial seperti siswa SMA/MA/SMK, berselancar di dunia maya bukan masalah bagi mereka, tetapi membedakan berita hoaks dari berita sebenarnya membutuhkan keterampilan menganalisis wacana secara rinci. Namun, keterampilan berbahasa ini belum diajarkan di tingkat sekolah menengah sehingga banyak pesakitan terangkut berita hoaks kebanyakan berasal dari netizen dari kelompok umur milenial. Kegiatan pengabdian ini sengaja menyasar kelompok umur milenial dan melatih mereka mengidentifikasi fungsi sosial, struktur generik, dan fitur-fitur kebahasaan yang menjadi petanda berita hoaks dengan harapan agar mereka memiliki kemampuan mengidentifikasi jenis dan ciri-ciri berita hoaks dan menghindarkan diri dari menyebarkannya. Peserta direkrut dari SMA/MA/SMK di Kota Mataram atas rekomendasi kepala sekolah masing-masing dan, karena pandemic Covid19, selanjutnya peserta tersebut direkrut melalui seorang koordinator peserta. Sebanyak 30 siswa mengikuti kegiatan ini yang dilaksanakan melalui web meeting selama sehari pada tanggal 7 Nopember 2020. Kegatan bersifat penyuluhan dan pelatihan mengidentifikasi berita-berita hoaks. Kegiatan ini berhasil meningkatkan pengetahuan siswa pada fungsi sosial (tujuan komunikasi), struktur generik, dan ciri-ciri tekstual berbagai jenis hoaks tetapi juga meningkatkan rasa percaya diri siswa mengidentifikasi berita-berita hoaks. Secara umum,peserta menguasai materi pelatihan dan penyuluhan dan berharap agar pelatihan tersebut berkelanjutan ke tingkat yang lebih tinggi lagi.

The study investigated the effectiveness of storytelling as a teaching technique for speaking skills among ninth-grade students at SMPN 11 Mataram. The research method employed a pre-experimental design, specifically a group pretest and post-test design. The target population consisted of ninth-grade students at SMPN 11 Mataram, with a sample size of 28 students from class IX C. Data were collected through three stages: pretest, treatment, and post-test. The pretest served as a baseline measurement, with a mean score of 70.57. The treatment phase involved implementing the storytelling technique, and finally, the post-test was conducted to assess the students' speaking skills after the treatment. The post-test was a higher mean score of 82.28, indicating a 16% improvement compared to the pretest. A paired sample t-test was conducted in this study. The t-test value was compared to the t-Table value to assess the difference between the pretest and post-test means. In this case, the t-test value was higher than the t-Table value, leading to the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha) and the rejection of the null hypothesis (Ho). This implies that the storytelling technique was effective in teaching speaking skill to ninth-grade students at SMPN 11 Mataram in the academic year 2022/2023. The results showed a significant improvement in speaking skill after the implementation of the storytelling technique.

ABSTRAK Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini dilaksanakan berdasarkan permintaan guru-guru MAN Gerung di Kabupaten Lombok Barat dalam upaya peningkatan skill membaca mereka dalam menghadapi The International English Language Testing System (IELTS). Karena program pengabdian masyarakat kami sebelumnya belum pernah menyentuh IELTS, padahal ada kebutuhan bagi guru-guru untuk melaksanakan program pertukaran guru ke luar negeri yang sangat membutuhkan kemampuan IELTS yang baik. Oleh karenanya kali ini kami akan memperkenalkan IELTS kepada guru-guru MAN Gerung terutama bagian Reading di dalam modul akedemik IELTS. ABSTRACT This community service program was conducted based on the request from teachers at MAN Gerung in West Lombok in order to improve the teachers’ reading skills in coping with the International English Language Testing System (IELTS). There is an urgency for the teachers under the Religion Ministry of Indonesia to be familiar with the IELTS since the Ministry offers several programes that allow teacher to go abroad either on short or long program as long as they meet the language requirement that is IELTS. However, the teachers are not only unfamiliar with the formats of IELTS, but they also have never seen one. This is the reason why our team introduced IELTS to the teachers at MAN Gerung particularly in the IELTS Reading Academic Module.

ABSTRAK Dari survey awal pada guru-guru yang mengikuti pelatihan PPG ditemukan bahwa kompetensi pedagogis mayoritas guru masih rendah dimana guru-guru kurang mengetahui bagaimana caranya mengembangkan bahan pembelajaran yang sistematis dan berbasis budaya lokal Guru hanya mengandalkan buku paket dari pemerintah dan mengajarkannya dengan cara yang kurang komunikatif dan tidak mengakomodasi latar belakang sosial budaya siswa. Kegiatan pengabdian ini ditujukan untuk (1) meningkatkan kompetensi profesional guru-guru bahasa Inggris di lingkungan MAN Lombok Barat (2) memecahkan salah satu permasalahan utama yang dihadapi guru-guru bahasa Inggris dalam pengembangan bahan pembelajran yang sistematis dan berbasis budaya lokal , dan (3) mengembangkan kerjasama antara Program Studi FKIP UNRAM dengan pemangku kepentingan terutama guru-guru bahasa Inggris di lingkungan MAN Lombok Barat. Kegiatan dilaksanakan dengan pola integrasi dengan sistem pengenalan teori dan konsep diintegrasikan dengan latihan terbimbing dan latihan mandiri. ABSTRACT From an initial survey of teachers who attended PLPG training, it was found that the pedagogical competence of the majority of teachers was still low. Teachers were lack of knowledge and skills on how to develop systematic learning materials based on local culture. Teachers only relied on textbooks from the government and taught them in a less communicative way. and did not accommodate the socio-cultural background of students. This community service is aimed at (1) improving the professional competence of English teachers in the MAN Lombok Barat environment (2) solving one of the main problems faced by English teachers in developing systematic and local culture-based learning materials, and (3) developing cooperation between English department FKIP University Mataram and stakeholders, especially English teachers teaching in MAN West Lombok. The activity was carried out with an integration pattern with a theory and concept recognition system integrated with guided and independent exercises.

ABSTRAK Guru-guru Bahasa Inggris SMP di Kota Mataram menghadapi tantangan yang serius dalam profesi mereka. Tantangan tersebut berupa kesulitan mereka dalam menulis dan mempublikasikan artikel ilmiah selain laporan PTK yang sangat mereka butuhkan untuk dapat naik pangkat ke jenjang lebih tinggi. Sebagai wujud kerjasama seerti tertuang dalam MOU antara FKIP Universitas Mataram dan Dinas Pendidikan Kota Mataram serta antara Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris dan MGMP Bahasa Inggris SMP Kota Mataram, maka para pihak sepakat untuk mengatasi permasalahan tersebut melalui bimbingan tehnis penulisan karya ilmiah. Dari survei awal diketahui bahwa para guru bahasa Inggris SMP di Kota Mataram memiliki motivasi yang cukup tinggi untuk menulis dan mempublikasikan karya ilmiah, namun mereka tidak mengetahui seluk beluknya. Untuk mengatasi kesenjangan tersebut maka dilaksanakan kegiatan bimbingan teknis penulisan karya ilmiah 46 JPL kepada 35 orang guru bahasa Inggris SMP Kota Mataram yang direkrut oleh Dinas Pendidikan, PGRI dan MGMP Bahasa Inggris SMP Kota Mataram. Kegiatan dilaksanakan secara terintegrasi dimana teori dan konsep diintegrasikan dengan latihan terbimbing dan latihan mandiri secara tatap muka dan daring serta publikasi dalam jurnal lokal. Kegiatan telah berhasil membantu peserta mengatasi masalah dan 30 dari 35 peserta telah mengunggah artikel ke jurnal lokal. ABSTRACT English teachers at junior high schools in the City of Mataram are facing serious challenges in their professional upgrading. The challenges come from their inability to write academically and publish research papers other than the usual classroom action research papers and such papers are essential for them to move up to higher professional levels. As implementations of MOUs between the School of Education, University of Mataram, and Office of Education, the City of Mataram, and between the English Education Department and the Mataram Association of Junior High School English Teachers, this activity was aimed at solving the problem by providing trainings in academic publication to the teachers. Prior to the training, it was found that the teachers were highly motivated in publication but their knowledge and skill in the matter was not sufficient. A 46-learning hour training was provided to 35 English teachers collaboratively recruited by the Office of Education, Mataram Teachers’ Association, and the English teacher association. The training integrated theories and applications in guided trainings and independents practices in both offline and online modes. The training has successfully helped the trainees overcome the challenges and 30 out of 35 trainees had uploaded articles to local journals.

ABSTRAK Penggunaan bahasa kelas (Classroom Language) dalam proses pembelajaran bahasa Inggris sangatlah penting agar siswa terbiasa berkomunikasi dan berinteraksi dengan guru dan siswa lainnya di kelas secara lisan dan tulisan. Namun hanya sedikit guru bahasa Inggris yang bisa menggunakan bahasa kelas dengan efektif. Berdasrkan hal tersebut kegiatan pengabdian pada masyarakat bertujuan: 1). Untuk meningkatkan kemampuan penggunaan Classroom Language guru-guru Bahasa Inggris dan non-bahasa Inggris; 2). memecahkan salah satu permasalahan utama yang dihadapi guru-guru bahasa Inggris terkaiti rendahnya motivasi dan kemampuan siswa dalam berkomunikasi dan berinteraksi dalm bahasa Inggris.; dan (3) mengembangkan kerjasama antara Program Studi FKIP UNRAM dengan pemangku kepentingan terutama guru-guru bahasa Inggris di lingkungan MAN Lombok Barat.Metode yang digunakan dalam kegiatan pengadian ini adalah dengan presentasi untuk menyampaikan informasi tentang penggunaan Classroom Language di kelas, pemberian model, dan praktik atau latihan terbimbing dan mandiri. Jumlah peserta kegiatan yaitu 30 orang guru di lingkungan MAN Lombok Barat. ABSTRACT Using Classroom Language in the English learning process is so important that students get used to communicating and interacting with teachers and other students in class orally and in writing. However, only a few English teachers can use Classroom Language effectively. Based on this reason, this community service program aimed: 1) to improve the ability to use the Classroom Language of English and non-English teachers; 2) to solve one of the main problems that English teachers face related to students' low motivation and ability to communicate and interact in English; and (3) to develop collaboration between the English Education Department of the University of Mataram and stakeholders, especially English teachers in Islamic Senior High School of West Lombok. The method used in this program was by giving presentations to convey information about using Classroom Language in the classroom, providing models, and helping the teachers to use it in independent practice. 30 teachers from MAN Islamic Senior High School West Lombok and from other schools nearby participated. Based on the pretest, posttest, and observation of teaching practices, the results of this program indicate a significant improvement in the knowledge and skills of the participating teachers in using Classroom Language. Since Classroom Language is also highly beneficial as language input for students in the classroom, teachers should strive to maintain consistency in its usage.
