Abstract

Abstract

Introduction: An emergency is a situation or condition where there is an immediate threat or occurrence of harm that may lead to further damage (loses). In modern times, emergency preparedness has become a critical aspect of daily life, particularly in school environments. Incidents such as accidents, fires, and the need for first aid interventions highlight the increasing importance of emergency training for students. Objective: To analyze the effect of emergency training on improving students' knowledge and skills in managing emergencies. Method: This study employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. A total of 81 students from MAN 2 Palu participated in the study. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test was used to assess changes in knowledge and skills, with a significance level set at p < 0.05. Result:. The mean pretest knowledge score was 9.16 (SD: 1.94), and the posttest score was 17.54 (SD: 0.67). The Wilcoxon test indicated a significant improvement in knowledge following the training (p = 0.000, p < 0.05). Similarly, the mean pretest score for basic life support skills was 3.44 (SD: 0.63), which increased to 5.93 (SD: 0.26) post-training. The mean score for splint dressing skills improved from 2.37 (SD: 0.64) pretest to 7.93 (SD: 0.30) posttest, and choking aid skills improved from 2.69 (SD: 0.54) to 3.98 (SD: 0.15) posttest. All skill improvements were statistically significant (p = 0.000, p < 0.05), which means providing emergency training has a positive effect on improving emergency skills among students. Conclusion: Emergency training significantly improves both the knowledge and skills of students in managing emergencies. This training is expected to improve students' ability to provide effective first aid in emergencies before professional medical assistance is available.

Abstract

Central Sulawesi has a high potential for large-scale disasters such as earthquakes, tsunamis, and liquefaction which can lead to severe physical damage and a high death toll. It is estimated that 60–70% of Indonesia's disaster victims are women, children, and the elderly. Due to their lack of independence, children are among the most vulnerable populations affected by natural disasters. As a result, efforts are required to raise kids' awareness of natural disaster preparedness. This research aims to analyze the effect of disaster preparedness training on elementary school children's preparedness for earthquakes. This study applied a quasi-experimental research, particularly the Nonequivalent Control Group Design. In this case, the samples involved are 40 students of SDN Madani Palu. Furthermore, the test used is the Wilcoxon test and the Mann Whitney test with a significance level of p <0.05. The study's findings revealed a Mann Whitney U-Test score of p = 0.314 (p>0.05), indicating that both the treatment and control groups were equally prepared for earthquakes. However, the post-observation data revealed a p value of 0.000 (p <0.05), indicating a significant difference between the treatment and control groups' levels of earthquakes disaster preparedness. This indicates that improving the level of preparedness for earthquakes disasters is a result of providing SDN Madani Palu children with disaster preparedness training that includes lecture, audio-visual, and simulation methods. It can be concluded that there is an effect of disaster preparedness training on the preparedness of elementary school children for earthquake disasters

Abstract

Background:The COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the critical role of vaccination in mitigating the transmission of infectious diseases. However, parental attitudes toward COVID-19 vaccination are pivotal in determining the vaccination uptake among children. Understanding the factors that influence these attitudes is essential for the development of effective vaccination strategies. Objectives:This study aimed to identify the factors influencing parental attitudes toward COVID-19 vaccination in children aged 6-12 years. Methods:A cross-sectional study was conducted among parents of children aged 6-12 years. Data on parental attitudes toward COVID-19 vaccination, along with various demographic variables, were collected via structured interviews. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was utilized to identify significant predictors of parental attitudes toward vaccination. Results:The findings revealed several factors significantly associated with parental attitudes toward COVID-19 vaccination. Notably, perceptions regarding the halal status of the vaccine, family support, and parental anxiety were found to significantly influence these attitudes. Parents who considered the vaccine to be halal and who received strong family support were more likely to endorse vaccination. Conversely, higher levels of anxiety were negatively associated with vaccination support. Conclusions:These results highlight the importance of addressing perceptions regarding the halal status of the vaccine, enhancing family support, and alleviating parental anxiety to promote COVID-19 vaccination in children aged 6-12 years. Public health interventions should focus on providing clear, reliable information regarding vaccine halal status, fostering family discussions to encourage vaccination, and offering psychological support to reduce parental anxiety. These strategies are crucial for improving vaccination uptake and achieving herd immunity against COVID-19. Abstract

Triage implementation in the Emergency Department (ED) of a hospital is a very important process in emergency patient management, involving technical skills, but also requiring a deep understanding of medical ethics. Methods: This literature review was used with a descriptive approach. The eligibility criteria for the literature were developed based on the Preferred Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) framework, in addition the literature was limited to the range of 2019-2024. Results: Study selection of 439 articles, with 14 articles from PubMed, 200 from Scopus, 200 from Google Scholar, and 25 from the ScienceDirect database. After full-text assessment, 7 articles were included for analysis. Discussion: Triage in emergency patient care is an important process that involves prioritizing patient care based on the severity of their condition. Conclusion: The application of ethics in emergency patient triage requires the integration of the principles of equity, severity-based prioritization, reducing the risk of error, and empathetic communication. Simulation-based training, improving human resources, and educating the public about the importance of ethics-based triage are important steps to ensure justice and patient safety in emergency situations.

Abstract

Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) is a condition characterized by an imbalance between energy and protein intake, resulting in the body’s nutritional needs not being adequately met. In Central Sulawesi, the prevalence of pregnant women experiencing CED is 22.7%. To determine the relationship between food intake in pregnant women and the incidence of Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) in the working area of the Bulili Community Health Center. This study used a quantitative design using a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of all pregnant women who sought antenatal care at the Bulili Community Health Center. A total sampling technique was used, involving 20 pregnant women. Data were collected using a Semi-Quantitative Food Frequency Questionnaire and analyzed using the Chi-Square Test and Fisher’s Exact Test for interpretation. The results of the study revealed that among pregnant women diagnosed with Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED), 6 individuals (40%) had inadequate energy intake, while 9 individuals (60%) had adequate intake. For carbohydrate intake, 8 individuals (53.3%) had inadequate intake, while 7 individuals (46.6%) had adequate intake. For protein intake, 4 individuals (26.6%) had inadequate intake, while 11 individuals (73.3%) had adequate intake. For fat intake, 2 individuals (13.3%) had inadequate intake, while 13 individuals (86.6%) had adequate intake. The Fisher’s Exact Test showed a p-value > 0.005, indicating that there is no relationship between food intake in pregnant women and the incidence of Chronic Energy Deficiency (CED) in the working area of the Bulili Community Health Center.
