Abstract

In 2020, Central Java Province, led by Governor Ganjar Pranowo, stood out in the Saiful Mujani Research Center (SMRC) survey, ranking first among regional governments with a 73% approval rate for its swift and responsive pandemic policies, surpassing the national standard of 59%. This success prompted an investigation, particularly as Instagram emerged as Ganjar Pranowo's primary tool for communicating his governance efforts during the pandemic. Instagram, as a platform, demonstrated greater responsiveness than other social media platforms. Observations revealed heightened interaction levels on Instagram compared to Twitter, evident in increased comments and likes. Ganjar Pranowo strategically utilized Instagram for public interaction, disseminating information, fostering community support, and educating the public about COVID-19. This study explores the realm of Political Communication through online mass media, emphasizing the evolving role of mass media and Ganjar Pranowo's adept use of it for open communication during the pandemic. Employing a quantitative approach, the research utilized questionnaires distributed to @ganjar_pranowo Instagram followers in Central Java, complemented by interviews with selected informants. Simple linear regression analysis, grounded in the principles of Good Governance, served as the theoretical framework. Findings analyzed using SPSS 25.0, revealed a significant impact of information transparency on public trust. With a calculated F-value of 146.267 and a significance level of 0.000 (< 0.05), the study suggests that information transparency through Instagram content influences public trust in pandemic management by approximately 59.9%, with 40.9% influenced by unexplored variables.

Abstract

Waste is an unresolved government problem. The largest waste collection site (TPS) in Yogyakarta, TPS Piyungan, is starting to get tired of collecting waste from various corners of Yogyakarta. One of the efforts to overcome this problem, the government instructed the Waste Sorting Movement. Based on the Ministry of Environment and Forestry (KLHK), the composition of waste in Indonesia is dominated by organic waste, which reaches 57% of the total landfill. Organic waste can be processed by cultivating BSF Black Soldier Fly (Hermetia Illucens). BSF is a black fly whose maggots (larvae) can degrade organic waste. Maggots (maggots) produced from black fly eggs are very active in eating organic waste. This bioconversion process by maggots can degrade waste more quickly, is odorless, and produces organic compost, and the larvae can be a good source of protein for poultry and fish feed. Maggots have the ability to break down organic waste 2 to 5 times their body weight for 24 hours. One kilogram of maggot can consume 2 to 5 kilograms of organic waste per day. Maggots that have become prepupae and BSF fly carcasses can still be used as animal feed because they are rich in protein. The cocoons can also be used as fertilizer. This process was socialized to Sub Urban groups in the Padukuhan Dukuh, Sidoharjo, Ngaglik, Sleman areas, as a response to the unresolved waste problem. Activities are carried out by: Carrying out outreach related to waste problems and BSF maggot cultivation, Carrying out waste sorting training, Carrying out training on BSF maggot cultivation, Distribution of rubbish bins to residents (partners) as containers to accommodate organic waste, Creation of organic waste storage areas, Construction of BSF Maggot houses , Breeding activities, maintenance and harvesting of BSF maggots, Packaging of BSF Maggot products, Sales of BSF Maggot products

Abstract

The dynamics of couples' relationships significantly impact a family's unity and harmony. This hinges on how spouses interact and communicate, influenced by patriarchal or matrilineal views they uphold. Communication dynamics in these relationships direct family goals. This study delves into how Javanese couples nurture their bonds. Employing qualitative methods, it includes in-depth interviews and group discussions with seven couples, selected based on education, socio-economic status, marriage duration, careers, religious values, and motives. Findings show Javanese couples favor dialogue over conflict, opting for a collaborative and compromising approach. They uphold mutual trust and flexibility in financial matters ("sing longgar endi"). Family discussions during tension aim to preserve collective values. Domestic work communication highlights flexibility in task distribution. The research underscores Javanese couples' connection to unique ethics, social norms, philosophies, gender perspectives, structures, language, traditions, myths, and religion.

Abstract

This research delves into the complexities of social media's role as a platform for communication, examining how it facilitates the spread of radical ideologies while simultaneously serving as a space for deradicalization. Through a comprehensive literature review, the researchers aim to combine existing findings with fresh insights employong qualitative analyses. Central to the study is the application of the Uses and Gratifications Theory (UGT), which posits that users actively select content based on specific needs and desires. By applying UGT, the research seeks to uncover the underlying motivations driving users to engage with extremist content on social media, offering a nuanced perspective on the platform's societal influence and potential implications for policy and platform modifications. The study employing comprehensive literature reviewmethodology, the research collects and analyzes a wide range of scholarly articles, reports, and relevant sources to provide a comprehensive overview of how social media contributes to the disemination of radical views. Based on the findings, Social media platforms, through their algorithm-driven content curation and interactive community structures, create environments where radical ideologies are normalized and amplified within echo chambers, subtly increasing the likelihood of real-world radicalization. Media consumers, guided by the Uses and Gratifications Theory (UGT), actively shape their content experiences on platforms like X, Facebook, and Youtube. However, the platforms’designs and algorithms can inadvertently drive radicalization. Countermeasures, informed by understanding users' motivations via UGT, are crucial to mitigate this, but they must be regularly evaluated for effectiveness. Abstract

Abstract

Climate change presents serious threats to highland agricultural areas such as Dieng (Central Java) and Karo (North Sumatra), where farmers increasingly experience irregular weather patterns, prolonged droughts, and frost events (bun upas). This study examines how the government communicates climate adaptation innovations—particularly through the Farmer Field School (Sekolah Lapang, SL) program and the work of agricultural extension officers (Penyuluh Pertanian Lapangan, PPL)—to support farmers in these vulnerable regions. Innovations such as the application of Lactic Acid Bacteria (LAB), Plant Growth-Promoting Rhizobacteria (PGPR), and basic frost prevention strategies have been introduced since 2022 through Farmer Field School (SL) initiatives led by local agricultural departments. Guided by Rogers’ Diffusion of Innovation Theory, this qualitative research involved semi-structured interviews with six farmers and two Agricultural Extension Officers. The analysis focuses on five diffusion stages: knowledge, persuasion, decision, implementation, and confirmation. The findings show that while farmers in both regions are increasingly aware of climate change (knowledge stage), many receive information from peers or media rather than official channels. In Dieng, adoption is constrained by resource competition with tourism and limited frost response strategies. In Karo, although media use is higher, government messaging still lacks practical, region-specific guidance. The study reveals key gaps in the persuasion and implementation phases, suggesting that existing communication efforts remain too generic and insufficiently persuasive. It recommends more localized, trust-based, and multi-channel communication strategies tailored to the unique environmental conditions of each region. The research contributes to the understanding of how institutional communication can better support innovation adoption in climate-vulnerable farming communities.

Abstract

This chapter discusses how the lobbying and negotiation process between the Nahdlatul Ulama (NU) and the government in responding to the five-day school rules stipulated in Permendikbud No. 23 of 2017 concerning School Day until finally Presidential Regulation No. 87 of 2017 concerning Strengthening Character Education (PPK). NU rejects the existence of the five-day school rule because it considers it would destroy the existence of Madrasah Diniyah (Madin) which has long been maintained by NU as a bastion of morality as well as an educational institution that maintains the noble values of Indonesia. Data collection methods used are through primary and secondary data collection in the form of interviews, news analysis, books, and related journals. Various efforts were taken by NU to abolish the five-day school obligation including discussing with Muhammadiyah and lobbying and negotiating with President Joko Widodo. In the process, NU used more Direct Lobbying and Negotiation strategies compared to Muhammadiyah, which in turn led to NU's beneficial results starting from the amendment of the five-day school regulation which was then stipulated in Perpres 87/2017 until NU's success in strengthening Madin's existence through government funding for support the Character Education Program.
