Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of length of time breeding and farmer education with knowledge of breeders in the field of buffalo reproduction in Pemalang Regency. The study used a survey method and the determination of the sample area was carried out by purposive random sampling by determining the area that had a large number of buffalo breeders. The sample area used is Surajaya Village representing Pemalang District, Kejambon Village representing Taman District, and Wanarata Village representing Bantarbolang District. Determination of respondents using the slovin formula with a margin of error of 10% obtained as many as 69 farmers. The analytical method used is descriptive analysis and multiple linear regression analysis. The results showed that the average length of breeding for buffalo breeders was 16 years, the average formal education of buffalo breeders is 3.5 years, and the knowledge of breeders in the field of reproduction is in the medium category. The results of multiple linear regression analysis showed that the length of husbandry and farmer's education simultaneously had a very significant effect on the knowledge of farmers in the field of reproduction (?<0.01). Partially, length of husbandryhad a significant effect on knowledge of breeders in the field of reproduction (?<0.05) and farmer education had a very significant effect on knowledge of breeders in the field of reproduction (?<0.01). The regression equation obtained is Y = 13.765 + 0.062X1 + 0.172X2. The coefficient of determination is 52.9% with a correlation coefficient of 0.727.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to determine the influence of honey supplementation in lactate ringer-egg yolk extender with 0.025% sodium dodecyl sulfate and 2% vitamin E addition (LREYSE) on the quality of Pelung chicken spermatozoa preserved at 5 C for 72 hours.Semen was collected from three Pelung chickens once per day over a course of three days using the dorsal-abdominal massage method. Semen was divided into 5 treatment groups of honey supplementation that are 0% as control (LREYSEH0), 1% (LREYSEH1), 2% (LREYSEH2), 3% (LREYSEH3), and 4% (LREYSEH4). This liquid semen was observed for sperm motility and viability every 12 hours. Complete random designrepeated measurement with 4 replications was used in this study. The results showed the motility and viability of spermatozoa in LREYSEextender with 2% honey supplementation (61.251.25% and 71.500.74%) was significantly higher (P0.05) than other treatments that are 0% (51.251.25% and 61.881.36%), 1% (52.501.44% and 63.251.38%), 3% (51.251.25% and 61.631.48%), and 4% (50.002.04% and 60.632.29%) of honey supplementation in extender at 36 hours of storage until the end of the observation at 72 hours of incubation. According to the results of this study, it can be concluded that the 2% honey supplementation in extender is the best treatment to maintain sperm motility and viability for 72 hours of storage.

Abstract

The aim of this research was to investigate the influence of duck variants and addition of vitamins into muscovy duck semen on fertility and fertile period of duck eggs after artificial insemination. Semen was collected from five muscovy ducks and divided into 3 treatment groups: without vitamin supplementation (A0), supplementation of 400 g/mL vitamin C (A1), and supplementation of 80 g/ml vitamin E (A2). Each semen was inseminated into female ducks of Magelang (B1) and Mojosari (B2) variants. Complete Random Design was used with 3x2 factorial. The results showed that vitamins and duck variants had no significant interaction (P0.05) with fertility and fertile period. The duck variant had no effect (P0.05) on fertility and fertile period, while the addition of vitamins significantly affected (P0.01) the fertility and fertile period. The addition of 400 g/mL vitamin C increased fertility by 22.280.20% but reduced the fertile period by 7.83.5 days, whereas 80 g/mL of vitamin E increased fertility by 11.572.47% but reduced fertile period by 12.30.9 days. It can be concluded that the addition of 400 g/mL of vitamin C and 80 g/mL of vitamin E in Muscovy duck semen increased fertility but shortened fertile period of duck eggs after artificial insemination.
