Abstract

Islam does not only talk about the procedure of worshiping (ibadah), but also related to daily activities (muammalah), including how to treat animals. Understanding the relationship between human being and animals is the basis for further studies of animals in Islam. This study is library research using the descriptive-inferential method with the purpose to elaborate on the position of the animal against the human being based on the concept of the human being as khalifah. The Quranic verses about khalifah and animals in the Quran have been collected using thematic interpretation method of al-Farmawi. The data have been analyzed using philosophical and theological approaches to find the concept of khalifah and the position and the purpose of animal life in the Quran. The result showed that God gives rightful supremacy on earth to human beings for upholding God’s law and guiding the creatures to their purpose of creation, because of their blessed potentials i.e. emotion, intelligence, and natural disposition for grasping the truth and goodness (fitra). Human being has to treat animals in line with the objective of their creation, i.e. God’s creature, the Signs of God’s Power, viands for human being and the other creatures, ride, and the lesson of life.

Abstract

The study was conducted in the final waste disposal (TPA) Jatibarang, Kedungpane, Mijen, Semarang. A survey was conducted, targeting the beef cattle farmers who pastured their cattle in the TPA Jatibarang, Semarang. The observed variables were age (X1), education background (X2), length of stay (X3), total cattle owned (X4), and the farmer’s norm compliance (Y1). Purposive sampling was used to determine the sample of regions. Total respondents were determined by simple random sampling, selecting 70 out of 350 farmers (20%). The result of the analysis showed that 78.57% farmers were at their productive age (20-55 years old), 64.30% had elementary education background, 74.29% had been farming for over 14 years, and 62.86% had fewer than seven cattle. The farmers also showed a sound moral compliance. The result of spearman rank showed a non-significant correlation between age and length of farming experience with norm compliance. Age was negatively correlated with norm compliance, but education background and total cattle owned were significantly correlated with norm compliance, showing a correlation value of 0,248* and 0,610*, respectively.

The purpose of this study was to describe the potential of Banyumas Regency in developing beef cattle farming as the basis for its development strategy. A survey method was conducted to obtain the secondary data supported by primary data subjected to simple descriptive statistical analysis consisting of mean values, distribution frequency, cross-tabulation and trend analysis. Ruminant potentials were investigated using LQ analysis, and developmental strategies were formulated using a SWOT analysis. The result showed a fluctuated but positive improvement trend of beef cattle population in Banyumas. Sub-districts potentially developed for beef cattle centres (LQ>1) included Kembaran, Sokaraja, Kalibagor, Kedungbanteng, Karanglewas, Sumbang and Baturraden. A quantitative SWOT matrix analysis showed that the internal factor was 0.0298 (X-axis), and the external factor was – 0.2941 (Y-axis). Conclusively, The key strategy to develop beef cattle in Banyumas was a differential strategy.

Abstract

This study was aimed to measure the farmers' commitment, accessibility of resources (information, capital, and assistance), and the correlation between those variables. The research method used in the current study was the survey method. The location was purposively selected in Pemalang Regency, the regency with the largest buffalo population in Central Java Province. Three subdistricts (20%) with formal and informal farmers' groups were selected, and there were Taman, Pemalang, and Belik subdistricts. One Village was selected for each subdistrict. Respondents for informal groups were taken by census method. Respondents in formal groups were taken by random sampling, and the number of respondents followed the number of informal groups. There were 136 farmers selected as respondents. (69 from each formal and informal groups). The data were analyzed using the descriptive and rank Spearman correlation methods. The results showed that the farmers' commitment of formal group and informal group members was in the moderate and low categories respectively based on the percentage score interval scaling method. Resources accessibility of formal and informal members of the farmers' group was in the low to moderate category, but the member of formal groups was slightly better. There was a strong correlation between the accessibility of resources with the commitment in the formal groups, whereas in the informal groups there was a moderate to strong correlation between the accessibility of resources with the commitment of buffalo farmers. Based on the conclusion, this study recommend that the government should assist the informal farmer group to establish formal group with the result that would increase farmers accessibility toward  information, support, and capital. That condition would increase farmers commitment to continue their buffalo farm business in Pemalang Regency.

Abstract

metabolized by the human body. There are various dairy livestock spread around Indonesia specifically dairy cattle, dairy goats, buffalo, and sheep. This research aimed to forecast the milk production of various dairy livestock in Indonesia until 2028. The research method of this study was the secondary data method utilizing secondary data from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nation. Data used in this study was milk production of Indonesia from various dairy livestock in tonnes from 2012-2021. The Autoregressive integrated moving average (ARIMA) method was used to forecast milk production in Indonesia. The (p,d,q) value for the milk production forecast of dairy cattle, dairy goat, buffalo, and sheep were (1,1,1), (2,1,1), (0,0,1), and (1,1,1) respectively. Milk production for cows, goats and sheep is predicted to continue to increase until 2028, while buffalo milk production is predicted to decrease. Milk production from various dairy livestock besides dairy cattle has great potential to develop so as to create diversity in fulfilling the needs of dairy products in Indonesia.
