Abstract

Stunting is still a global health emergency, and this is a burden for developing countries including Indonesia. Based on the report, Indonesia is the country with the 5th largest contributor to stunting worldwide. The empowerment of cadres is considered very helpful in monitoring children's growth and development. This study aims to determine the training of cadres on knowledge and skills in monitoring the growth of toddlers in the working area of the Samarinda City Health Centre. The research is a quasi-experimental design conducted in July – August 2023 in the working area of the Samarinda City Health Center, East Kalimantan, Indonesia. A total of 66 cadres were involved as respondents by setting inclusion and exclusion criteria. The data was then collected and analyzed with the Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests. Results show that there is an effect of training using modules on cadre knowledge (p = 0.000), there is an effect of training using videos on cadre knowledge (p = 0.000), there is an effect of training using modules on cadre skills (p = 0.000), and there is an effect of training using videos on cadre skills (p = 0.000). There is a difference. These results show that module media is more effectively used in training than video. Both forms of training exert the same effect. However, module-based training is more effective than video, this is because module media builds interaction among cadres

Abstract

The prevalence of nutritional problems among Indonesian adolescents shows an increasing trend, with data from the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey showing overweight reaching 12.1% and obesity 4.1%. To analyze the relationship between dietary patterns and physical activity with nutritional status of students at SMP Negeri 3 Samarinda. Cross-sectional study on 54 seventh-grade students using SQ-FFQ questionnaire, PAQ-A, and anthropometric measurements. The majority of respondents (48.1%) had good nutritional status, but 44.4% experienced undernutrition. Spearman correlation showed a strong relationship between dietary patterns and nutritional status (r = 0.799; p = 0.000) and physical activity with nutritional status (r = 0.876; p = 0.000). There is a significant positive correlation between balanced dietary patterns and adequate physical activity with optimal nutritional status in adolescents.

Abstract

In Samarinda in the Loa Janan Ilir sub-district, 8.23% (93 cases) of babies were born with low birth weight in 2021, two times from the previous year. The research is needed to understand the risk factors of LBW during pregnancy, such as anemia, chronic energy deficiency (CED) and the appropriateness of weight gain, in order to determine prevention programs. This study used a retrospective cohort method by looking at exposure during pregnancy and the baby's birth weight. The data used in this research is secondary data using a total sampling technique on the population of mothers who gave birth from January to May 2023. Analysis was carried out by looking at causal relationships and relative risk (RR) using the Chi-Square test and multivariate logistic regression. There was no relationship between anemia (p-value= 0.634) dan CED (p-value= 0.794) and appropriate weight gain (p-value= 0.189) during pregnancy and the incidence of LBW. Based on a multivariate test, it was found that pregnant women < 20 years old had a 45.16 times greater risk of having a LBW child (p=0.017). Meanwhile, mothers with inappropriate weight gain have a 7.6 times risk of having LBW children compared to those with (p-value=0.054). This is likely to occur because the majority of pregnant women have applied double doses to anemic pregnant women, but have not yet determined the adequacy of maternal’s diet based on inadiquate weight. Community health center is expected to carry out behavioral change interventions related to diet during pregnancy, apart from the importance of consuming supplements, as well as education regarding the impact of adolescent pregnancy.
