Abstract

Abstract

The aim of this research was to determine the antidiabetic and antimicrobial properties of ethanolic extract of Rhizophora mucronata leaves, as well as the phytochemical elements contained in the leaf extract. Extracts from R. mucronata leaf samples were obtained by maceration in ethanol-based solvents. The ethanolic extract of R. mucronata leaves is known to have an antidiabetic effect on mice, evidenced by its ability to reduce blood glucose levels. Giving ethanol extract at a dose of 600 mg/kg BW gives the greatest antidiabetic effect. The antibacterial activity of the extract against the tested bacteria and fungi was also limited due to the presence of contaminants in the ethanolic extract. The analysis of secondary metabolites using LC-MS revealed that the ethanolic extract of R. mucronata leaves contained 25 different secondary metabolite compounds. Furthermore research to purify and identify the compounds in the ethanolic extract of R. mucronata is required to develop this resource as an antimicrobial and antidiabetic drug based on natural materials.

Abstract

Methylene blue adsorption research has been carried out using activated charcoal from Curculigo latifolia. This research aims to determine the characteristics of the Curculigo latifolia activated charcoal made and the optimum conditions for the adsorption of methylene blue by Curculigo latifolia activated charcoal. Physically activated charcoal is made from Curculigo latifolia which is carbonized at 400°C for 30 minutes, then the physically activated charcoal is soaked in 0.5 M H2SO4 solution for 24 hours to produce chemically activated charcoal. The results showed that the optimum pH for methylene blue adsorption obtained from the Curculigo latifolia activated charcoal adsorbent was physically activated at pH 7 and chemically activated at pH 9. The optimum contact time obtained from the physically and chemically activated Curculigo latifolia activated charcoal adsorbent occurred at a contact time of 15 minutes and 30 minutes. Adsorption of methylene blue by chemically activated Curculigo latifolia activated charcoal follows the Langmuir adsorption isotherm while physically activated charcoal follows the Freundlich adsorption isotherm. The optimum adsorbent mass of physically and chemically activated charcoal is 0.2 g and 0.25 g.

Abstract

Argument-Driven Inquiry (ADI) in science learning can improve students' argumentation skills and understanding of concepts. In the textbooks, it is important to have ADI activities inside. This research aims to analyze ADI activities in the high school chemistry textbook Revised Curriculum 2013. This research used nine indicators of ADI activities: questions, evidence, student explanation, scientific theories, argumentation, communication and justification, analysis, connection, investigation report, and reflection. The research method used a descriptive instrument as an analysis sheet prepared based on ADI activities. Data was collected using documentation techniques and data analysis using content analysis of ADI activities. The results showed that the reliability test of the data obtained was 0.94 in the very good category. The ADI activity most found in textbooks is evidence activity, with a percentage of 31.25 Meanwhile, the textbook needs to explain question and answer and reflection activities. The textbook needs to increase ADI activities that support student-centered learning and teaching.

Abstract

The study aims to identify the secondary metabolite compounds contained in the ethanol extract Propolis Tetragonula Iridipennis and determine the antioxidant activity. Propolis is extracted from the beehive of Kelulut (Tetragonula Iridipennis) with a method of maceration of ethanol 96% produce a yield of 66.73%. Propolis extract contains alkaloid compounds, flavonoids, triterpenoids, tannins and carbohydrates. Propolis extract tested its antioxidant activity using the DPPH method (1.1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) with a wavelength of 514 nm. Results showed a percentage of propolis extract free radicals 59% in concentrations of 100 ppm with IC50 33.74 ppm so that propolis extract is potentially as an antioxidant.

Abstract

Students' critical thinking skills in colloid material are still low, possibly due to a lack of problem-solving abilities. Therefore, the application of various learning models is considered necessary, one of which is Problem-Based Learning (PoE). This study aims to investigate the impact of PoE on students' critical thinking skills at Granada Polytechnic (SMA IT Granada) in colloid material. A quasi-experimental design and quantitative experimental methods were used. Fifty students from grades 11 A and B were selected as research subjects through census sampling. A post-test control design was used. Data collection used post-test data as primary data, supplemented by observation sheets of student classroom activities. The results showed that the average post-test score of the experimental group was 78, while the average post-test score of the control group was 59. The t-test results showed that the hypothesis Ha was true, therefore, it can be concluded that the application of the PoE model at Granada Polytechnic can improve students' critical thinking skills in colloid material.
