Abstract

Abstract This community service activity aims to educate and assist the RW 19, Antapani Tengah Village community in adopting a zero-waste lifestyle by transforming household waste management. The activity was carried out with a participatory approach, involving the community in community service activities. The methods included counselling on zero waste, sorting, and composting organic waste. The activity results showed increased understanding in all aspects tested after counselling and training. The highest increase occurred in waste processing (40%), followed by organic waste sorting (36%), and general knowledge (24%). This shows that the education or training provided effectively increases participants' understanding of organic waste management. This transformation is expected to be the first step in consistently implementing a zero-waste lifestyle and positively impacting environmental quality and community welfare. Keywords: lifestyle, community empowerment, waste sorting, composting, organic waste Abstrak Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk mengedukasi dan mendampingi masyarakat RW 19 Kelurahan Antapani Tengah dalam mengadopsi konsep gaya hidup zero waste melalui transformasi pengelolaan sampah rumah tangga.

Abstract

Alluvial soil in this study is a vertic endoaquepts paddy soil type, which is an alluvial paddy soil with a wide distribution in the Pantura area, West Java, originating from a long river deposition system with various types of erosion materials. This soil has a high mineral content of easily weathered sand, especially feldspars. The presence of quartz, orthoclase and sanidine minerals indicates the presence of acidic materials. This also causes the content of chemical elements in this alluvial deposit to be low, so it is necessary to add organic materials such as municipal waste compost and cow manure which can improve the physical, chemical and biological properties of the soil. The aim of the study was to determine the response of several physical properties of alluvial soil to a combination of municipal waste compost and cow manure after being planted with pakcoy in Alluvial, Indramayu. The objective of this research was to find out relationship between water content and soil bulk density to the harvest of pakcoy after combined with municipal waste compost and cow manure in Alluvial, Indramayu. This study used a randomized block design factorial with two factors. The first factor is municipal waste compost and the second factor is cow manure. Each of them consisted of 4 levels : 0%, 3.0%, 6.0%, and 9.0% with two replication. The results showed that there was no interaction between municipal waste compost with cow manure and municipal waste compost with cow manure had no significant effect on soil water content of pakcoy plants after harvest. Meanwhile, cow manure has an independent effect on soil bulk density in pakcoy plants after harvest. The largest decrease in soil density occurred at a dose of 9.0% (k4), but the addition of cow manure at a dose of 3.0% (k2) was able to reduce the soil bulk density. This K2 treatment was not significantly different from the other treatments. A decrease in soil density to 1.15 g cm-3 (k2) is considered ideal for mineral soils, because in general the bulk density of mineral soils is between 1.1 – 1.6 g cm-3.

Abstract

Jasmine Integrated Farming is a farmer group located in community unit 19, Antapani Tengah Subdistrict, Bandung City. Jasmine Integrated Farming was founded in 2019 with all its problems, namely (1) organic waste processing that is not yet optimal, (2) irregular planting and harvest schedules, (3) catfish harvests are not optimal, (4) lack of understanding about caring for seed houses and nurseries. plants, (5) Lack of partner knowledge about digital marketing, (6) Lack of knowledge about bookkeeping and financial reports. With all its problems, it is difficult for this farmer group to generate profits for the welfare of its members. The solutions offered are training and assistance on organic waste processing, training and assistance on seeding and planting schedules, training and assistance on the use of digital media for promotions along with recording digital-based financial reports using applications. The conclusion of this service is that there is an increase in partners' knowledge about organic waste processing, planting schedules, using social media as a marketing medium and recording application-based financial reports via Buku Kas.

Abstract

Soil formation and weathering are essential processes influencing natural fertility, yet the combined role of particle size distribution, texture, and organic carbon content at the profile scale remains understudied. Earlier research has focused chiefly on soil properties at the landform or regional scale, without examining interhorizon variations, leading to a limited understanding of their interactions in pedogenesis under different environments. This study compared the physical and chemical characteristics of soils in two contrasting pedons, Jatinangor (slope) and Tanjungsari (depression), both located in Sumedang Regency, West Java, Indonesia, with similar soil-forming factors. A descriptive-comparative method was employed using horizon-based sampling, laboratory analysis, and Principal Component Analysis (PCA) to reveal relationships and dominant factors. Results indicated that clay fractions dominated the JTN (Jatinangor) pedon with a clay texture due to intensive weathering under well-drained conditions. In contrast, the TJN (Tanjungsari) pedon was dominated by silt fractions resulting from fine material deposition under waterlogged conditions. Organic carbon content was lower in JTN due to leaching on slopes, whereas higher accumulation occurred in TJN due to depression settings. PCA identified sand fraction as the main discriminating factor, while fine fractions (silt and clay) were positively associated with organic carbon. These findings highlight that integrated analysis of these variables at the pedon scale provides a sensitive indicator of pedogenesis, weathering, and soil fertility.
