Abstract

Stylistics analysis gives an impartial and scientific opinion based on solid quantifiable data and methodical application. It makes use of specific technical vocabulary and notions derived from linguistics. The four layers of language aspects that can be studied stylistically are phonology, graphology, grammar, and semantics. The purpose of this research is to examine the stylistic features of Robert Frost's poem "An Old Man’s Winter Night" through the lens of stylistic analysis. The structure and style of Robert Frost's writing, as well as his subjects, viewpoints, and themes are all examined in this study. Each level has been thoroughly investigated, with attention paid to the phonetic, phonological, graphitic, semantic, and grammatical aspects of language choice. This research is descriptive qualitative with content analysis approach. To attain the purpose, the data is analysed through stylistics devices. Frost employed a variety of stylistic elements to emphasize his point, including alliteration, assonance, tone modulation, denotation, connotation, metaphor, personification, symbolism, and imagery.

Abstract

The Covid-19 virus has impacted almost every element of human life. Various official actions, especially those taken by the Indonesian government, have been taken to break the chain of transmission of the virus. One of the sectors that will determine the condition of this pandemic is the education of elementary school children. So far, the Ministry of Education and Culture has not urged local governments to open schools outside the yellow and green zones. The purpose of this research is to find out the effectiveness of online learning for high school students in Buru State on learning achievement in the Covid-19 situation. This study uses a combination of quantitative and qualitative research. Quantitative research was conducted to see the level of student learning effectiveness. Qualitative research was conducted to determine student responses to the implementation of learning from home. This is done equally, not too dominant in one of them. Data collection techniques used is a questionnaire using a questionnaire via a google form that is given to students once a month to get an overview of the implementation of online learning during that month. The data analysis technique used is data reduction, data presentation, conclusion drawing drawing/verification. The results of the study indicate that the low learning achievement of students caused by bold learning has made the parties redevelop the applied learning process and increase the intensity of learning so that students experience increased achievement.

Abstract

This research is intended to help English teachers both at the college and high school levels in using portfolios as an evaluation tool in writing skills. Portfolio assessment was chosen in this research because of its wide use and easy adaptation to various needs. This study used Research and Development method. The development stage is based on the IQF curriculum implemented in English Language and Literature Department, Universitas Negeri Surabaya. The exploratory writing skills held for students are expected to help them in further writing, namely Thesis Proposal Writing and Academic Journal Writing where students will write down their thoughts about a concept or phenomenon and present an explanation accompanied by adequate research data. The results of the study show that the use of portfolio is quite positive. There is an improvement in students’ writing after applying a portfolio as an evaluation tool for writing skills. However, some additions need to be made to improve the quality and format of the portfolio as an evaluation tool for writing skills.

Abstract

The study aims to present the cultural and moral values of East Javanese Folklore. This research used a qualitative research with documentation technique. The object of the study were two selected stories from East Java, namely Sura and Baya and Banyuwangi stories. The study of cultural and moral values is based on the Koentjaraningrat classification which defines the diversity of values that exist in human life. The result shows that the stories contain many traditional and cultural values that are full of moral messages. Through the theme and characterization, the philosophical values and attitudes of the community are well portrayed. The stories also reveal that the cultural values influence the character and personality of the Javanese people.

Abstract

This study aims at discussing Marvel comics as a part of literary tourism. Marvel comics play an important role in supporting tourism development. The worldwide popularity of Marvel comics has also increased the popularity of the places that used as the setting in the comics. This study used literature review with a qualitative descriptive approach. The data is identified, classified and then interpreted based on a literary tourism and literary events. The results of the study shows that the representation of places in comic books can pique readers' interest in visiting those places. This popularity has an effect on rising tourism-related factors, monetary gains, state income, and the promotion of regional culture.
