Abstract

Novel (E)-N-(3,4-dimethoxybenzylidene)naphthalen-1-amine (DBNA) ligand has been synthesized by refluxing 1-naphthylamine and 3,4-dimethoxybenzaldehyde in methanolic solution for 5-6 hours. The obtained compound was characterized by UV-Vis, FT-IR and 1H-NMR. All the spectral data confirmed the structure of the ligand.

Abstract

In this study, activated cassava leaves were prepared using NaCl (CLN) and KOH (CLK) as novel and low-cost materials for removing dyes from water. The prepared materials were characterized using Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The adsorption experiments were carried out under different conditions of initial dye concentration (50 – 600 ppm), pH solution (4 – 10), and contact time (1 – 180 min) under room temperature. The adsorption kinetics has been studied using the pseudo-first and pseudo-second-order. The equilibrium isotherms have been analyzed using the Langmuir and Freundlich models. The adsorption kinetics of methylene blue onto activated cassava leaves follows a pseudo-second-order model. According to the isotherm study, the Langmuir model shows the best fitting results with the maximum adsorption capacity of 217.39 mg/g and 416.66 mg/g for cassava leaves that were activated by NaCl and KOH, respectively.

Abstract

Rivina humilis L. is herbaceous bushy perennial plant found in shrubs. The fruit extract of Rivina humilis L. had experienced antibacterial activity against Klebsiella pneumoniae and Escherichia coli. The crude extract of nonpolar fraction (n-hexane) of Rivina humilis L. showed negative antibacterial activity towards Klebsiella pneumoniae and Escherichia coli whereas the methanolic extract has antibacterial activity with 12 mm of inhibition zone for Klebsiella pneumoniae and 10 mm for E.coli in 1 ppm concentration. Determination of MIC (Minimum Inhibitory Concentration) was conducted with variation of concentration (w/v) 1 ppm; 0.8 ppm; 0.6 ppm; 0.2 ppm; 0 ppm (negative control), and chloramphenicol (positive control). The result of MIC determination against Klebsiella pneumoniae showed that the width and the inhibition zone index in the minimum concentration (0.2 ppm) were 7 mm and 1.36, respectively. While towards E.coli, MIC determination exhibited positive result at 0.6 ppm with the width and the inhibition zone index were 8 mm and 1.78 respectively.

Abstract

Getih-getihan (Rivina humilis L.) plants can be used as antibacterial, antioxidant and natural pesticides. Most of the biological activities of natural products originated from secondary metabolites contained therein. Studies have shown the effects of leaves, branches, and fruits extract of R. humilis towards biological activities. However, identifying the phytochemical compounds of R. humilis L. fruit is less discussed. Here we proposed research on the identification of secondary metabolite compounds of R. humilis L. fruit extract using phytochemical screening tests and spectroscopic method. The extraction of R. humilis L. fruit was proceeded by maceration method using methanol solvent. The series of phytochemical screening tests signified the presence of alkaloids, terpenoids, tannins and flavonoids. Furthermore, we applied FT-IR analysis to confirm the existence of functional groups in the secondary metabolite compounds. A broad absorption band showed the hydroxyl groups (O-H) at 3265 cm-1. The sharp band at 1632 cm-1 exhibited the C=C stretching band. The presence of C-N (stretching) was signified by the absorption band at 1237 cm-1, while the C-H bond in CH3 terminals (alkanes, alkyl group) was exhibited at 1401 cm-1. All the functional groups confirmed in the FT-IR analysis corroborated the phytochemical test results.

Abstract

Panti Asuhan Darul Amanah menghadapi tantangan dalam memenuhi kebutuhan harian dan pendidikan anak-anak asuh akibat keterbatasan ekonomi. Untuk membantu meringankan kendala tersebut, tim dosen Program Studi Kimia ITERA melaksanakan pelatihan pembuatan sabun cair sebagai bentuk pengabdian kepada masyarakat dan penguatan kewirausahaan. Kegiatan dilaksanakan pada 15 Maret 2025 dan melibatkan 27 peserta, terdiri dari 8 pengurus panti dan 19 anak-anak asuh berusia 7–17 tahun. Pelatihan terbagi dalam dua sesi, yaitu teori tentang kewirausahaan dan proses produksi sabun cair, serta praktik langsung pembuatan produk. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan peningkatan pemahaman peserta yang signifikan serta antusiasme tinggi selama kegiatan. Produk sabun cair yang dihasilkan memiliki kualitas baik, layak pakai, dan bernilai jual. Berdasarkan kuisioner, tingkat kepuasan peserta sangat tinggi, yaitu 81,48% merasa sangat puas dan 18,52% merasa puas. Kegiatan ini membuka peluang usaha mikro dengan modal kecil yang dapat dijalankan secara mandiri oleh pihak panti dan anak-anak asuh. Disarankan agar pengembangan produk berlanjut pada aspek pelabelan, branding, dan pemasaran digital untuk meningkatkan nilai jual dan daya saing di pasar lokal.

Abstract

Penyakit perut seperti maag, diare, dan lain-lain bisa diatasi dengan menggunakan obat-obatan sintetis atau antibiotik, baik yang diresepkan oleh dokter maupun yang dijual bebas. Namun, obat-obatan tersebut dapat berkemungkinan memberikan efek samping pada penderita dan bahkan beberapa penyakit bisa mengalami resistensi. Penggunaan tanaman obat keluarga sebagai alternatif herbal bisa menjadi solusi karena senyawa metabolit sekundernya bermanfaat dalam pencegahan dan penyembuhan penyakit seperti sakit perut, serta sifatnya yang alami sekaligus dipercaya memiliki sifat toksik yang lebih minimal. Maka dari itu, kegiatan pengabdian tentang sosialisi tumbuhan obat keluarga sebagai obat sakit perut dan pelatihan salah satu penggunaan racikannya pada masakan dilaksanakan pada Desa Patoman, Pagelaran, Pringsewu, Lampung. Desa Patoman merupakan salah satu daerah yang memiliki tanaman-tanaman herbal. Namun, dalam hal pengolahannya, masih diperlukan peningkatan pengetahuan, salah satunya melalui pemanfaatan racikan herbal dalam masakan untuk mengurangi rasa sepat, pahit, atau rasa tidak enak lainnya. Pengenalan salah satu cara memasak makanan khas berkhasiat obat dari Aceh, khususnya dari Suku Gayo yaitu Cecah Benyet/Menet memiliki potensi yang sangat menjanjikan. Makanan tradisional Cecah Benyet/Menet berasa lezat tanpa menghilangkan khasiatnya sebagai obat sakit perut yang dibuat dengan memanfaatkan racikan sari kulit batang tanaman obat sebagai bagian dari bumbunya. Diharapkan, kegiatan pengabdian ini menumbuhkan pemahaman masyarakat tentang cara meracik tumbuhan obat, serta pemanfaatan racikan agar lebih disukai bagi pengonsumsinya.
