Abstract

Aim: To find out whether bean extract has effects on levels of LDL and Ox-LDL and relation of Ox-LDL onLOX-1 gene polymorphism 3'UTR188CT.Method: This research is true randomized experiment with a pretest - posttest design and control group.Samples were 35 subjects divided into 4 groups. Laboratory experiments using bean extract test affects LDL andplasma levels of Ox-LDL by Enzyme -linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA), test LOX-1 gene polymorphism3'UTR188CT with restriction enzyme. To evaluate effect of bean extract to LDL and Ox-LDL level werecompared with unpaired t-test. To evaluate difference of Ox-LDL level on LOX-1 gene polymorphism3'UTR188CT using ANOVA. Results: There was a decrease of LDL found in all treatment groups and elevatedlevels of Ox-LDL. TT genotype had higher levels of plasma Ox-LDL both before (49,9 ± 8,3 vs. CC 39.9 ± 19.4and CT 42,8 ± 61,2,p .648 ) and after treatment (60.3 ± 5.7 vs. CC 55.93 ± 12.6 and CT 53.9 ± 10.3, p .630) thanother genotype.Conclusion: Bean extract can lower LDL cholesterol although it can also increased plasma levelof Ox-LDL. TT genotype had higher levels of plasma Ox-LDL than other genotypes. Require further study toother antioxidants may have a beneficial effect by lowering the levels of Ox-LDL.

Abstract

Cardiovascular disease is the highest cause of death in most developing countries. Hypercholesterolemia, especially high LDL is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease can be overcome through a good diet. Avocados are rich in fat. Avocado fat is included in healthy fats, because it is dominated by monounsaturated fatty acids oleate. Abstract

  Objective: Cardiovascular disease is the highest cause of death in most developing countries. Hypercholesterolemia, especially high LDL is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease can be overcome through a good diet. Avocado fat is included in healthy fats, because it is dominated by monounsaturated fatty acids oleate. Based on the description, it is necessary to do research on the effect of avocado juice on lipid profiles in humans Method: This study used a pre and post test only control group design research method to determine the effect of avocado juice on LDL cholesterol in humans. Before the study began (H-7) participants were asked not to consume avocados, then at the beginning of the study blood was taken to check for LDL cholesterol. After that, the study participants were given avocados made in the form of juice for 14 days to then check the LDL cholesterol again and compared the results Result: There was a statistically significant decrease in LDL cholesterol levels after giving avocado juice for 14 days with p 0.003 Conclusion: Avocado juice has a good effect that can decreased LDL cholesterol level and has a protective effect on the risk of atherosclerosis

Abstract

Background: Atherosclerosis is an inflammatory disease that leads to the emergence ofaterom plaque, which causes thickening of the blood vessel wall. Acute myocardialinfarction (AMI) is caused by rupture of atherosclerotic plaques that trigger acutethrombosis cause total occlusion of the coronary artery. Initiating event in atherosclerosisis the change LDL into oxidized (OxLDL). Activation of OxLDL would be mediated byvarious scavenger receptors, such as LOX-1. Consumption of legumes can reduce the riskof coronary heart disease. This study want to find out whether the kidney beans that areincluded in legumes have efficacious as preventive risk of atherosclerosis.Objective: To prove that kidney bean extract can lower LDL and OxLDL plasma in LOX-1gene polymorphism 3'UTR188C/T as preventive risk of atherosclerosis.Research methods: laboratory experiments with phytochemical test, test kidney beanextract effect with a dose of 400 mg, 800 mg dan 1200 mg per day on lipid profile andplasma levels of OxLDL by Enzyme -linked Immunosorbent Assay (ELISA), test3'UTR188C/T gene polymorphism with restriction enzyme.Results: The results of the phytochemical screening kidney bean extract contain activecompounds such as alkaloids, saponins, flavonoids, triterpenoids/steroids, and glycosides.LDL found decrease in all treatment groups with the highest decrease in the 800 mggroup, although not significantly. But found elevated levels of OxLDL in all treatmentgroups with the highest increase were also in the group of 800 mg. Most study participantswere genotype CT.Conclusion: It has been produced kidney bean extract in the form of extracts condensedthat has met the standards. Kidney bean extract can lower LDL cholesterol. Althoughkidney bean extract can increase plasma Ox-LDL, further research needs to be done tosee the existence of an increase in the levels of OxLDL. Participants with TT genotype hadhigher levels of plasma OxLDL than other genotypes.

Abstract

Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is an enlarged prostate glan caused by progressive hyperplasia of glandular cells or stoma cells from prostate tissues. BPH is a common problem that increases in people from 40 years old. The symptom is lower urinary track symptoms (LUTS) that consist aims to know the characteristic of BPH patients in RSU Haji Medan from January to December 2015. Research design of this study is descriptive studies. The population of the study consist of patients who were diagnosed with BPH in RSU Haji Medan from January to December 2015. Total smapling method was used. Research data were retrieved by taking the patients' entire medical record with BPH in RSU Haji Medan from January to December 2015.
