Abstract

The entry of the Covid-19 virus in Indonesia has had a major impact on the education sector. The teacher could use several strategies during the learning process to be able to achieve the learning objectives. This study aimed to optimize the use of the Survey, Question, Read, Recite, Record, Review, Reflect (SQ5R) method in teaching reading during online learning at SMPN 3 Lamongan. The researcher used action research with direct observation during the learning process. The results showed that the SQ5R method could improve students' reading comprehension. The minimum score obtained by students in the initial test was 45. This value increased up to 65 in the final test, which indicated that all students had reached the minimum passing criteria standard that had been set. Meanwhile, the observations showed that students were able to analyze visual information, predict content and improve their notes. Overall, it was evident that the SQ5R approach has a positive impact on students' reading comprehension.

This research was conducted on first semester students at Billfath Lamongan University. The subjects of this research were students of the English program from several research programs totaling 34 students. This research uses a Classroom Action Research design by Kemmis and Mc Taggart model in four stages, namely planning, implementing action, observing, and reflecting. The results of the assessment on the practice of writing texts using the assessment rubric show that there are still many students who have not reached the mark according to the criteria. The percentage of scores obtained by students are dominated by the "poor" criterion with 41%, fair 32%, good 18%, very poor 9%, and excellent 0%. While, the students' competence increased and has reached the specified minimum completeness criteria in the final test. The percentage of scores obtained by students are dominated by the "good" criterion with 50%, excellent 32%, fair 18%, poor 0%, and very poor 0%. The results of this research prove that the use of the graphic organizer strategy significantly improves students' writing skills and also has a positive impact on students' attitudes toward learning English.

Abstract

This research aimed to assess the effectiveness of implementing the roundtable technique in enhancing descriptive writing skills among eighth-grade students at SMP Simanjaya Lamongan. The research utilized a pre-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. Data analysis involved the application of a paired sample t-test to ascertain the presence of a significant effect before and after the intervention. This research included a sample of 30 students from the eighth grade at SMP Simanjaya Lamongan. The findings of the research indicated a notable improvement in students' writing skills when employing the roundtable technique. This was evident in the average scores obtained by students on both the pretest and posttest. The mean score increased from 73.60 during the pretest to 83.03 in the posttest. The researcher then conducted a paired sample t-test to address the research question. The results of the t-test analysis revealed that the p-value (probability value) was below the significance level α (0.00 < 0.05). Consequently, the null hypothesis (Ho), asserting no significant effect of the roundtable technique on students' descriptive writing skills, was rejected. The acceptance of the alternative hypothesis led to the conclusion that the roundtable technique had a significant positive effect on the students' writing skills in producing descriptive texts.

Then use the sample T-test to determine Sig. Based on the results of the T test, significant p (0.000) < ? (0.05). Due to the significant value was lower than 0.05, there was not enough evidence to reject the null hypothesis (H0), the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted. Abstract

This research was supposed to evaluate the effectiveness of the Community Circle Strategy in enhancing students' English-speaking skills at MA Al Balagh. This research consists of 8 stages, including observation, pre-test examination at the second meeting, implementation of strategies, and post-test examination at the final meeting. The study was conducted on 24 students of class X at MA Al Balagh. The method employed was quantitative with a pre-experimental approach. Data from pre-tests and post-tests were examined for normality using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test, indicating that the data were normally distributed. Further analysis utilized the T-test to determine significance (Sig.). The results of the T-test indicated that the significance value (p = 0.000) < ? (0.05), suggesting insufficient evidence to reject the null hypothesis (H0), thus accepting the alternative hypothesis (Ha). This indicated a significant improvement in students' vocabulary mastery following the treatment. These findings affirm that employing the Community Circle Strategy was effective in enhancing students' speaking skills.
