Abstract

Introduction: Developmental delays in children are signs of chronic malnutrition brought on by unfavorable circumstances since birth. Throughout the first 1000 days of life, stunting might increase mortality and disrupt bodily processes. Toddler malnutrition can also result from their culture, traditions, and social food. This study sought to synthesize earlier research that offered an overview of the cultural perspective on stunting prevention. Methods: Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) Guidelines were employed in the research design, and four databases were used for the literature search method (Scopus, PubMed, ProQuest, and Google Scholar) To find relevant articles, use the Boolean operator "stunting” OR "stunted” AND "culture” OR "cultural” AND "prevention” OR "prevent” by limiting 2017–2022 in English, full-text articles, and open access. Results: There are 12 papers addressing the cultural perspectives in the prevention of stunting, including parenting cultures on the role of fathers, parenting cultures on the role of grandmothers, and cultures of family empowerment. These studies are cross-sectional and quasi-experimental.Conclusions: Values emerge from interpersonal interaction and become part of the culture. A slightly different approach is required for communicating behavior change, especially in regions where ancestors' customs and beliefs are still practiced. Stunting can be avoided by using the cultural perspective as a preventative measure. Keywords: culture; health care; prevention; stunting

Abstract

Critical patients with ICU room treatment have high morbidity and mortality. Prolonged use of mechanical ventilation can result in a reduction in the strength of the respiratory muscles. The purpose of this review article is to explain the effectiveness of the implementation of IMT in Intensive Care Unit patients. The research design used the PRISMA guideline with a literature search strategy on the Scopus database (n=10), ProQuest (n=1), Web of Science (n=913), PubMed (n=291), and Google Scholar (n=800), with the keyword "Inspiratory Muscle Training OR IMT AND Intensive Care Unit OR ICU AND Breathing AND Ventilation". The selected articles used the Randomized Control Trial and Quasi-Experimental, Case, and Observational Cohort Study research designs. The year the source of the literature was taken is 2020-2024. The effectiveness of Inspiratory Muscle Training also depends on several factors, including the patient's specific health condition, the type of disease or injury, and the implementation and supervision of the exercise program. One of the benefits of IMT is increased respiratory muscle strength, reduced duration of mechanical ventilation, reduced risk of respiratory complications, and improved quality of life. Inspiratory Muscle Training (IMT) has shown effectiveness in various clinical contexts, including the ICU.

Abstract

Introduction: Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is one of the leading causes of death worldwide. This disease attacks the respiratory tract, resulting in chronic symptoms such as narrowing of the airways, shortness of breath, and coughing. However, the management of treatment for this disease is still very lacking. Therefore, the best treatment needs to be understood. Objective: This review article aims to explain the best treatment for COPD sufferers. Design: This study employed a systematic review design guided by the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) framework. Data Sources: A comprehensive literature search was conducted using four electronic databases—Scopus, PubMed, Science Direct, and Google Scholar—focusing on articles published between 2020 and 2025. Keywords used included "Non-Pharmacology", "COPD", "Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease", "Therapy", "Intervention", and "Nursing". Studies were included if they used Pre-Experimental, Quasi-Experimental, Randomized Controlled Trial, or Qualitative research designs. Review Methods: Two reviewers performed data extraction and risk of bias assessment independently using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) checklist, with discrepancies resolved through consensus or a third reviewer. Results: A review of 19 articles showed that non-pharmacological interventions, such as telerehabilitation, physical exercise, and breathing techniques, have been shown to help improve the functional capacity and quality of life of COPD patients. Conclusions: The combination of physical and psychological therapies has shown more optimal results, especially with the support of technology. However, further research is needed to evaluate long-term effectiveness and ensure wider and more targeted implementation.

Abstract

Hypertension is a common health problem in the elderly that is often unrealized, so it requires effective education to improve blood pressure management. This study aims to determine the effect of DASH diet education on knowledge and compliance with blood pressure control in hypertensive elderly at the Surabaya Elderly Posyandu. A quasi-experimental method with a pretest-posttest design and a control group involved 40 elderly hypertensive respondents who were divided into intervention and control groups. The intervention group received DASH diet education through counseling, leaflets, and 1x/week discussions for 4 weeks. Results showed a significant improvement in p=0.000 knowledge and p=0.000 blood pressure control adherence in the intervention group, while the control group showed no significant change. Systolic and diastolic blood pressure in the intervention group also decreased significantly (158.2/94.3 to 139.7/84.5 mmHg), with 55% of respondents achieving normal blood pressure, compared to 10% in the control group. Conclusion: DASH diet education is effective in improving knowledge, compliance, and controlling blood pressure in hypertensive elderly. Similar educational programs are recommended to be implemented continuously in primary health services for more optimal hypertension management.

Abstract

Introduction. Obesity is a condition marked by excessive fat accumulation that threatens health. In Indonesia, obesity among children aged 9–12 years is becoming a significant public health concern. Contributing factors include lack of physical activity, excessive gadget use, and poor dietary habits. Obese children are at higher risk of chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and mental health issues. Lifestyle changes and limited awareness about balanced activities, screen time, and nutrition further exacerbate the problem. This study aims to examine the influence of physical activity, gadget use, and dietary patterns on obesity among school-aged children. Method. A quantitative, cross-sectional approach was used with a sample of 37 obese students aged 9–12 years, selected through total sampling. Data were collected using standardized instruments: PAQ-C for physical activity, SAS for gadget use, and a dietary pattern questionnaire. Data analysis employed multiple linear regression. Result&Analysis. The results showed that physical activity, gadget use, and dietary patterns each had a significant effect on obesity (p < 0.05). Low physical activity and high gadget use were associated with higher obesity levels, while healthy dietary patterns had a protective effect. Gadget use was the most dominant factor. Discussion. The study confirms that lifestyle factors significantly contribute to childhood obesity. Excessive gadget use, in particular, reduces physical activity and increases obesity risk. Preventive efforts involving parents, schools, and health professionals are crucial to fostering healthy habits in children.
