Abstract

Urban development in Indonesia raises some urban problems. One of them is the switch function of agricultural land to residential and industrial. Meanwhile, the food needs of communities dependent on agricultural commodities which in fact require land as a place of production. The concept of urban agriculture emerged as an answer to deal with the problem of urban land and the sustainable development efforts. According to the Farm Bill and Trade Act of 1990, meaning the practice of sustainable agriculture crop production and livestock production systems integrated with certain rules so that it can continue in the long term. Sustainable Agriculture-System (SAc-S) is a proposed solution to address the sustainability of land and food in urban areas as well as a form of sustainable development by looking at the social, economic and environmental. Our idea to realize the urban farm located in one-story building that do not spend the urban land. In addition, the building will be surrounded by several other concepts, namely livestock, fisheries, horticulture and agroforestry. This concept can be applied in the city center to achieve food self-sufficient green city. Keywords: urban land issues, sustainable development, green city

Abstract

Anti-bacterial is a compound that can be used to inhibit bacterial growth. The compounds that play a role in damaging the cell membrane are phenols, flavonoids, and alkaloids. The phytochemical compounds above have the potential as natural Anti-bacterial on pathogenic bacteria, for example against Escherichia coli. Escherichia coli is a pathogenic microbe in humans that can cause digestive disorders and disrupt the work system of the stomach organs. Seagrass C. rotundata has compounds that are antibacterial, such as alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols, steroids, and tannins. C. rotundata can be seen in Indonesian waters. However, it has not been widely used. This study aims to determine the difference in concentration of seagrass extract of C. rotundata against E. coli anti-bacterial activity. The research method used was experimental laboratories with different concentrations of seagrass extract (10%, 20%, 30%, and 40%). The results showed that the seagrass extract of C. rotundata was effective as an antibacterial with a middle category, which is the inhibition zone ranging from 5-10 mm. Based on the studies conducted, 72 hours incubation period at 40% concentration was the best concentration to prevent E. coli at the 8.5 mm inhibition zone. Furthermore, bioactive compounds produced by C. rotundata are flavonoid compounds by showing changes in the color of the solution to yellow-orange. In addition, also produces phenol bioactive compounds by showing a change in the color of the solution to greenish, and also produces tannin bioactive compounds by showing a change in the color of the solution to blackish green. The results showed that C. rotundata can be used as a recommendation for the development of Anti-bacterial drugs in the future.

Abstract

Staphylococcus aureus is classified as a pathogenic bacterium in humans and animals. S. aureus infection in humans can cause skin infections, and produce toxins that result in shock syndrome, foodborne disease, bacteremia, endocarditis, metastatic infections, and sepsis, while in milk-producing animals it can cause mastitis infection. Initially, S. aureus can be overcome with penicillin antibiotics but often develops time S. aureus becomes resistant to penicillin to cause new infections, namely the Methicilin Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) which was first reported in 1961. One of the natural ingredients from the sea that has natural antibacterial content is seagrass or Cymodocea rotundata. Which is one type of seagrass in Indonesia that is included in the round type of grass. Cymodocea rotundata has bioactive components such as alkaloids, flavonoids, phenol hydroquinone, steroids, triterpenoids, tannins, and saponins that function as antibacterials. This study aims to determine the potential of seagrass Cymodocea rotundata as an antibacterial against Staphylococcus aureus bacteria. This research is experimental research using wells. Samples of Cymodocea rotundata seagrass came from the coastal waters of Ketapang and were converted into a simplified powder form with ethanol solvent. The results showed that the diameter of the inhibition zone formed ranged from 5.5 mm - 9.7 mm, the largest in the 40% treatment. Based on this research, it can be concluded that the extraction of seagrass Cymodocea rotundata has benefits as an antibacterial and potential in the field of pharmacology.

Abstract

Sea grape (Caulerpa sp.) is a green seaweed species with bioactive content consisting of flavonoids, terpenoids, alkaloids, and phenols. This study evaluates the antimicrobial potential of Sea*Grape macroalgae extract (Caulerpa sp.) obtained from Pasaran Island, Lampung. The diffusion assay method assessed the antimicrobial activity of Caulerpa sp. extract against Staphylococcus aureus. Caulerpa sp. samples were extracted using the maceration extraction method and evaporated using two methods: water bath and rotary evaporator. The results showed that Caulerpa sp. extract had antimicrobial activity at a concentration of 10,000 ppm, which was resistant to Staphylococcus aureus. These findings suggest that Caulerpa sp. from the waters of Pasaran Island has the potential to be a source of natural antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory components if the concentration of the extract is more significant, which can be further developed for applications in the health and pharmaceutical fields.
