Abstract

Abstract

Kiluan Bay is a coastal region in Tanggamus Regency, Lampung Province, with a very high potential for tourism. Increased levels of tourists may have a negative impact on Kiluan Bay's natural resources, one of which is the accumulation of trash. The ecosystem at Kiluan Bay may be impacted by trash accumulation, especially plastics. If these issues are not properly handled, it will have an impact on the sustainability of tourism activities and the preservation of the environment. Even so, this will have an effect on the local economy. In order to reduce the negative impacts of tourism activities that are not environmentally friendly, it is thought that the concept of ecotourism needs to be implemented at Kiluan Bay. The purpose of this study is to establish ecotourism development strategies that emphasize community knowledge at the local level. Survey techniques and interviews with relevant persons were used to collect the data. The results of the data collection were analyzed using a SWOT analysis to determine the alternative strategies required to support the implementation of the ecotourism concept in Kiluan Bay. The research showed that Kiluan Bay's ecotourism development is positioned in quadrant V (Growth/Stable). This viewpoint suggests that the ecotourism development strategy in Kiluan Bay, Lampung, must take the most of the existing opportunities. Developing an ecotourism management approach in Kiluan Bay that involves the community directly is one strategy that had to be implemented.

Abstract

The increase in the volume of catches and the price of mackerel in Bandar Lampung in recent years can encourage more intensive and exploitative fishing efforts. The aims of this study is analyze the length-weight relationship, condition factors, and growth patterns of Indian mackerel (Rastrelliger kanagurta) landed at the Lempasing Fishing Port, as basic information for the management of R. kanagurta resources in the waters of Lampung Bay and its surroundings. Samples of Indian mackerel were obtained from fishs landed at Lempasing Fishing Port during July-Sept 2022. The fish samples were measured for length and weight, then analyzed for length distribution, condition factors and length-weight relationships. The length of the fish landed at the Lempasing Fishing Port ranged from 170–282 mm. The smallest fish size in the class interval 170-184 mm. The size of the most caught fish are in the class interval of 230–240 mm. The highest condition factor value of 1.02 was found in the smallest fish class interval. Condition factor showed that the values were not significantly different from 1. The equation of length-weight relationship is W=0.0017L2.086 with a determination coefficient value (R²) of 0.811. The growth pattern is negative allometric. This illustrates that Indian mackerel landed at the Lempasing Fishing Port tended to be thin. Further research related to reproductive patterns, gonadal maturity index, composition of catch number, catch productivity periodicly and sustainable is urgently needed for precise and sustainable management of Indian mackerel resources.

Abstract

The waters of Lampung Bay have high potential resources for threadfin bream (Nemipterus sp.). This fish has significant economic value as a diverse food ingredient. However, currently, the body size of threadfin bream found tends to be uniform and even smaller due to continuous overfishing. The research was conducted to assess the status of utilization of threadfin bream resources in the waters of Lampung Bay based on five important aspects, namely ecology, economics, social, technological and institutional. The research was carried out in May 2023 at Lempasing Fishing Port, Bandar Lampung City, with data collection through observation and interviews. Data analysis used the multi-dimensional scaling (MDS) method using the Rapfish (rapid appraisal for fisheries) application to evaluate the sustainability of the use of threadfin bream. The results of the analysis show that the sustainability index value for the use of threadfin bream in the waters of Lampung Bay is as follows: ecological dimension 48.59; economic dimension 36.80; social dimension 75.00; technology dimension 49.91; and ethical dimension 61.64. Based on these results, it can be concluded that the use of threadfin bream in the waters of Lampung Bay is quite sustainable, with an average index value of 54.39.Keywords: Ecological dimension, multi-dimensional scaling, Rapfish, sustainability index.

Abstract

This research was conducted at PPP Lempasing between March until May 2024 to explore the growth patterns and condition factors of the little tuna (Euthynnus affinis). The results indicate that the growth pattern of this species is negatively allometric, with a coefficient (b) value of 2.7178. The average condition factor of the fish ranges from 0.428 to 1.187, suggesting a slim body shape and that the fish are not overly fat. This negative allometric growth pattern means that the length of the fish grows faster than its weight, which may indicate stress or environmental challenges. The low condition factor suggests that the fish are not in optimal condition, possibly due to a lack of food or unfavorable environmental factors. Additionally, the frequency distribution of the little tuna lengths shows that the sizes caught range from 230 to 520 mm, with the highest frequency in the size class of 370-389 mm and the lowest in the 510-529 mm class. It is necessary to implement medium-term management strategies such as improving human resource quality, empowering fishing communities through alternative livelihoods, and developing environmentally friendly fishing gear.

Abstract

Floodplains are dynamic freshwater ecosystems characterized by significant ecological shifts between dry and rainy seasons. The snakeskin gourami (Trichopodus pectoralis), a resilient blackfish species, thrives in these extreme environments due to its specialized labyrinth breathing organ. However, its wild populations are declining, necessitating sustainable conservation strategies. This study evaluated the effectiveness of the special area for conservation and fish refugia (SPEECTRA) model, developed by BRPPUPP, in Patra Tani, Palembang. The SPEECTRA model leverages seasonal fish migration from rivers to floodplains during inundation, capturing fish in designated conservation ponds to facilitate spawning, protection, and production enhancement. Over a 30-day period at the Patra Tani Installation, purposive sampling was employed to collect T. pectoralis specimens. Growth patterns were analyzed using length-weight regression, and Fulton’s condition factor (Kn) was calculated. Results demonstrated that W=0.0108 L3.1076 with R2=0.9469. The growth pattern of the studied fish exhibited positive allometric characteristics, indicating that the population is likely in a favorable condition. This finding indicated the effectiveness of SPEECTRA as a fishery sanctuary, safeguarding key species such as T. pectoralis while mitigating anthropogenic pressures on aquatic ecosystems. Keywords: Aquatic organisms, sustainability, condition factor.
