Abstract

Sepsis is a life-threatening medical emergency due to organ dysfunction described by the body's systemic immunological response to an infectious reaction. Sepsis patients experience sequential system failure, leading to multiple organ failure Sepsis sufferers experience organ failure will experience metabolic acidosis. An indicator of metabolic acidosis is a decrease in bicarbonate. qSOFA is required to determine the risk of organ failure in sepsis patients. To analyze the correlation of bicarbonate levels with qSOFA score in sepsis patients. The relationship between bicarbonate levels and qSOFA was tested using the Pearson correlation. There was no statistically significant with p value = 0.099 and r value = -0.307. Conclusion: There is no significant relationship between bicarbonate levels and qSOFA scores in sepsis patients at RSUD dr. Doris Sylvanus, there is a low correlation intensity with a negative correlation direction, indicating higher bicarbonate levels, lower qSOFA scores.

Abstract

Purun craftsmen are one of the groups at high risk of experiencing lower back pain, as they can spend two to four days creating a single craft. Moreover, the process of making purun crafts requires them to sit for extended periods, sometimes exceeding 4 hours per day. This non-ergonomic working position makes the craftsmen prone to developing lower back pain. Lower back pain is a sensation of pain felt in the lower back, which may originate from the spinal vertebrae, muscles, nerves, or other structures in the surrounding area. One of the causes of lower back pain in workers is work duration, which is the accumulation of a person’s work activities over an extended period. Therefore, this study aims to examine the relationship between work duration and the severity of lower back pain in purun craftsmen. This cross-sectional study was conducted in Katingan Hilir and Pulau Malan Districts, Katingan Regency, Central Kalimantan Province, with a sample size of 39 subjects. The median work duration was 5 years, with a minimum of 1 year and a maximum of 48 years. The median ODI score was 5, with a minimum score of 0 and a maximum of 27. The bivariate analysis results showed a significant relationship between work duration and the severity of lower back pain, with a p-value of 0.001 and r=0.754. This study demonstrates a statistically significant relationship between work duration and the severity of lower back pain.

Abstract

Skin infections caused by the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus pyogenes, and Propionibacterium acnes are often a common health problem. One treatment is antibiotics, but the cases of antibiotic resistance are increasing. Thus, new treatment alternatives are needed. This study aimed to analyze the molecular mechanism of phytate antivirulence against pathogenic bacteria of skin infection. This study used a bioinformatics approach involving analysis of phytate interactions with bacterial virulent proteins via STITCH, functional classification of proteins with VICMpred, and prediction of virulence properties using VirulentPred. B-cell and MHC epitopes were analyzed using IEDB, while protein subcellular location was determined through PSORTb. The results showed that phytate interacted specifically with virulent proteins in all three bacteria, most of which functioned in cellular and metabolic processes. These virulent proteins also have immunologically relevant epitopes. Subcellular location analysis showed that phytate protein targets were dispersed in the cytoplasmic membrane and cytoplasm. These findings indicated that phytate has a significant antivirulence mechanism by targeting virulent proteins of skin pathogenic bacteria, thus potentially becoming a therapeutic agent to treat skin infections while reducing antibiotic resistance.

Abstract

The ear requires proper care to function as part of the auditory system. However, many people are unaware of maintaining ear health. A contributing factor is a lack of knowledge. Cotton buds disrupt the ear's natural cleaning mechanism by pushing earwax deeper, causing cerumen impaction. This study examined the relationship between knowledge levels and cerumen impaction using a cross-sectional approach with proportionate stratified random sampling. A total of 162 respondents were involved, including 76 students from the 2021 intake and 86 from the 2022 intake. The results showed 80 respondents (49.4%) had good knowledge, 62 (38.3%) sufficient knowledge, and 20 (12.3%) insufficient knowledge. A total of 53 respondents experienced cerumen impaction. Bivariate analysis indicated a significant relationship between knowledge level and cerumen impaction. There is a relationship between the level of knowledge and the incidence of cerumen impaction in students of the Faculty of Medicine, Palangka Raya University
