Abstract

Oil palm is a plantation commodity that has a strategic role in Indonesia's economic development. The development of the palm oil industry in Indonesia is inseparable from the role of planting materials used by oil palm plantation farmers. Superior oil palm seedlings are the basic capital to achieve high productivity and quality of palm oil. The use of illegal or careless seedlings can cause a decrease in productivity of up to 50%. In contrast, by using superior quality oil palm seedlings, stable production levels can be guaranteed for 25 years, hence the type and quality of seedlings is a major concern. This community service related to superior seedling selection strategies in order to increase national oil palm productivity was carried out at KUD Kampar. KUD Kampar oversees 20 farmer groups of oil palm farmers in Kampar district, so that through this service it is hoped that the PKM Polytechnic Kampar Team can be a means for oil palm farmers in Kampar Regency to get correct and accurate information about superior oil palm seeds and be able to increase the productivity of the oil palm plantations owned by KUD Kampar farmer groups.

Abstract

Bangun Sari Village is a village in Kampar Kiri Hilir District. Judging from its geographical location, Bangun Sari Village has great potential for development as an oil palm plantation business. Behind its potential, there are disturbances that can reduce oil palm productivity, namely plant pest organisms. One of the caterpillars that eat oil palm leaves is the fire caterpillar (setora nitens). Fire caterpillar attacks are generally treated by using synthetic chemical pesticides. However, the use of synthetic chemical pesticides can have negative effects. The best solution to overcome this is to use vegetable pesticides. Many plants can be used as raw materials for vegetable pesticides, such as babadotan plants, lemongrass leaves, neem leaves and others. Based on surveys and interview results, the PKM team received information that the community had no knowledge of identifying and controlling plant pests and diseases. Therefore, pest and disease control must be right on target and carried out with good and correct procedures. Control measures are expected to increase palm oil production and productivity.

Abstract

Weed control in oil palm plants is very necessary because it can cause losses both directly and indirectly. Kampar Polytechnic's partner in this PKM activity is the Pancuran Gading Village Office which is the Village Government that leads the implementation of Village development, development of Village community, and empowerment of Village communities, the majority of whom are oil palm farmers. So far, oil palm farmers prefer to use herbicides to control weeds. The impact of using herbicides is that it is not environmentally friendly and tends to increase maintenance costs because the price of herbicides is increasing every year. One solution that can be used is the use of the legume cover crop (LCC) Mucuna bracteata. Apart from functioning to suppress weed growth, LCC also plays a role in increasing soil fertility. With this community service activity, it is hoped that oil palm farmers will be able to cultivate Mucuna bracteata well in order to control weeds on oil palm plantations. In this way, dependence on herbicides can be reduced and oil palm maintenance costs can become more economical.

Abstract

In 2023, Riau's oil palm plantation area with cultivation status will reach 3.5 million hectares with palm oil production reaching 9.06 million tons (Ministry of Agriculture, 2023). This figure makes Riau Province the largest palm oil center province in Indonesia. As the area of oil palm plantations increases, palm oil waste will be produced consisting of empty bunches, fronds, shells and fiber. This palm oil waste can pollute the environment in water and soil and can also threaten biodiversity. One use of palm oil waste is compost. Organic fertilizer (compost) is the final and/or intermediate result of changes or decomposition of plant and animal parts and remains, for example cake, guano, bone meal, livestock waste and so on (Ege et al., 2018). The objectives of this PKM are given to students of SMKN 1 Kuok, namely 1) providing early knowledge about the use of palm oil waste, 2) understanding how to make compost from palm oil waste, and 3) socializing the facilities and infrastructure available at Kampar Polytechnic . Large land and facilities for making compost fertilizer are not available in the ATP department of SMKN 1 Kuok. So with this training in making compost fertilizer, we can overcome the problem of places and practicum areas that are not available at SMKN 1 Kuok.

Abstract

Red Palm Oil (RPO) is one of the edible oil products derived from palm oil that retains its carotene content. Carotene is an important compound for the human body, as it functions as a provitamin A and also acts as a natural antioxidant. The production of RPO involves several stages, one of which is the fractionation process. This process is carried out to separate the liquid fraction (olein) from the solid fraction (stearin). If fractionation is not performed properly, a significant amount of stearin may remain in the RPO, causing the oil to become cloudy or solidify easily at temperatures below 25°C, including at room temperature. To date, literature examining the relationship between fractionation and the quality of RPO remains limited. Therefore, this study was conducted by varying the fractionation temperatures of RPO at 10°C, 15°C, 20°C, and 25°C. The purpose of these variations is to determine the optimal temperature for the fractionation process in order to produce high-quality RPO. The quality parameters of RPO analyzed in this study include: Free fatty acid (FFA) content, Moisture content, Carotenoid level, Iodine value, and Pelican oil.

Abstract

Biodiesel is an alternative diesel fuel made from renewable materials such as vegetable and animal sources. Used cooking oil is waste cooking oil that is often found in households, very easy to obtain and always available all the time. Used cooking oil can be used as raw material for making biodiesel because it contains triglycerides through a transesterification process with the addition of a base catalyst, one of which is the ash of empty palm fruit bunches. This research aims to determine the effect of adding ash from empty palm fruit bunches on making biodiesel from used cooking oil. The method used in this research is transesterification with the addition of a catalyst of empty palm fruit bunch ash varied at concentrations of 1%, 2%, 3%, 4%, 5% with a mole ratio of 1: 6 (oil: methanol). The tests on the biodiesel produced consist of acid number, viscosity and density.
