Abstract

This study investigated the antioxidant activity of swallow nests known as Edible Bird Nests (EBNs) derived from the swallow species Collocalia linchi, especially those sourced from Lombok, Indonesia with various health benefits, including their potential as antioxidants. This study used swallow nest samples taken from 3 different locations, namely: East Lombok, Central Lombok and West Lombok. The extraction method used is heating and sonication. Antioxidant activity was assessed quantitatively using the DPPH method and measured by UV-Vis spectrophotometry. Results showed varying IC50 values across different extraction times, with the highest values recorded at 3818.47 mg/mL and the lowest at 2331.47 mg/mL, compared to the control (ascorbic acid) at 35.22 mg/mL. The higher the IC50 value, the lower the effectiveness of antioxidants and vice versa. These findings suggest that the antioxidant activity of EBNs extracts is relatively weak when compared to ascorbic acid. This study contributes to the understanding of optimized extraction techniques by heating and sonication to unlock the full potential of the extraction results of bioactive compounds.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to analyze the village potential and formulate a sustainable Bayan spiritual ecotourism model as an accelerator for Bayan Village, Bayan District, North Lombok Regency, towards the status of Empowered Village. Bayan Village in North Lombok has unique potential in the form of the sacred site of the Bayan Beleq Ancient Mosque and the local wisdom of Wetu Telu, but this potential is threatened by the risk of commercialization and the lack of structured customary governance. The method used is action research with a participatory qualitative approach, through SWOT analysis, FGDs, and customary workshops involving the Customary Council, Pokdarwis, and BUMDes. The results of this service produce scientific findings that the educational ecotourism model is only sustainable if the absolute authority of the customary council is determined as the main control variable that limits zoning and commercial activities. Based on these findings, a Bayan spiritual-customary ecotourism model is formulated that clearly distinguishes the sacred core zone and the educational buffer zone. This community service activity also successfully increased the human resources capacity of the Tourism Awareness Group (Pokdarwis) through ethical storytelling training, which serves as a filtering mechanism for cultural values. The main output of this activity was a strategic roadmap integrated into the village planning document (RPJMDes), which serves as an operational guide for the development of Bayan Village towards an Empowered Village through the synergy of cultural preservation, social empowerment, and local economic empowerment.

Abstract

This community service program aims to enhance the capacity of coffee farmer groups in post-harvest processing and professional coffee quality assessment, as well as to improve farmers’ understanding of coffee flavor profiles in order to increase their competitiveness in the market. The program was implemented through training and mentoring activities involving 35 coffee farmers from the “Muda Maju Tanjung Biru” group. Program evaluation was conducted using questionnaires and analyzed with a non-parametric statistical test (McNemar’s test). The results indicate that the training was effective in improving the partners’ knowledge and skills, as evidenced by a 79% increase in participants’ average knowledge scores after the program. In the cupping score training, 40% of participants (14 farmers) successfully achieved basic scoring competency. Overall, this community service program has proven to enhance farmers’ professionalism in coffee post-harvest processing and quality evaluation.

Abstract

This community service program aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of members of the Karang Taruna youth group and local fishing groups through the application of appropriate technology in fisheries product diversification in Sambik Elen Village, North Lombok Regency. The program was implemented using a participatory approach through training in the production of fish floss and fish nuggets, as well as the use of an oil-draining spinner and product packaging techniques. Evaluation was conducted at the beginning and end of the program using pre-test and post-test instruments. The results indicate a significant improvement in partners’ knowledge and skills, reaching 92%, in processing fish catches into higher-value and longer-lasting products. The program emphasizes financial self-reliance and entrepreneurship by optimizing local potential to create sustainable flagship products, while simultaneously reducing dependence on raw fish sales and minimizing economic losses among fishermen.

Abstract

In this study, sampling was carried out at 3 locations of swallow nest farmers, namely in East Lombok, Central Lombok and West Lombok. The type of swallow nest used in this study was the Linchi swallow nest. This study was a quantitative study, namely to find the best variation in soaking time with alkaline water and Oxygen Water to reduce nitrite levels. Sample measurement using a Uv-Vis spectrophotometer instrument and characterization using FTIR. The results of the study showed the highest reduction in nitrite levels using an alkaline solvent with a pH of 7.5, Central Lombok, East Lombok and West Lombok Edible Bird’s Nest Sample, respectively, as follows: 87.88%; 96.26%; and 94.59% with an optimum contact time of 30 minutes. While the highest reduction in nitrite levels for Central Lombok, East Lombok and West Lombok, Edible Bird’s Nest samples were as follows: 92.51%; 98.5%; and 97.85% with an optimum contact time of 15 minutes. This is also supported by FTIR spectra data from optimum conditions for reducing nitrite levels where the characteristics of the FTIR spectra in the 1400 cm-1 wavenumber region have a %T value after treatment> to %T before treatment. The results of the macronutrient test showed that the bird's nest contains carbohydrates, proteins and lipids. While the results of the phytochemical test showed that the bird's nest sample contained phenolic compounds. In this study, it has been successfully reduced nitrite levels in bird's nests using alkaline solvents pH 7.5 and Oxygen Water which is the latest method that is cheaper and more efficient.
