Abstract

Background: Aspergillus fumigatus is a fungus that causes an opportunistic disease called Aspergillosis. Most tests used to determine the cause of fungal infections are carried out using the culture method. A popular growth medium for fungi is PDA media, which contains potato extract which is a source of carbohydrates. So that a substitute medium can be made that contains carbohydrates, sago flour is the highest carbohydrate producer, namely 84.7 grams per 100 grams of sago flour. Aim: To determine the comparison of the growth of Aspergillus fumigatus fungi on PDA media (potato dextrose agar) with alternative media from sago starch (Metroxylon sago). Method: This research methodology is pure experimentation with posttest only with control group design. Using the fungal culture method, with PDA media as control + and alternative media of sago starch sold at the Lambocca traditional market, Bantaeng, as test media with 3 concentration variants, namely concentrations of 12%, 14% and 16%. Result: Based on the findings of the research carried out, it can be concluded that five times the Aspergillus fumigatus treatment group was able to grow fungus which was grown in alternative media with concentration variants of 12%, 14%, 16%, and positive control. Conclusion: Media made from sago starch can be used as an alternative medium for growing Aspergillus fumigatus fungi. By looking at the average diameter of fungal colony growth at a concentration of 16% with an average of 10.85 mm, a concentration of 14% which is 9.3 mm and a concentration of 12% which is 7.5 mm. with the results of statistical tests, the p value = 0.000, which indicates there is a significant difference. Keywords: Aspergillus fumigatus, PDA, Sago flour

Abstract

Introduction: Adolescent anemia is one of the public health problems globally, including in Indonesia. Learning achievement is associated with adolescent anemia in girls. This study aims to determine the relationship between anemia and teenage girls' learning achievement at school. Methods: The type of research was a cross-sectional study conducted in June 2022 at one of the Aliyah madrasas in Palu City. Research samples from 34 adolescent girls were taken using a simple random technique. The research variables were learning achievement, body mass index (BMI), and hemoglobin levels. Research data was collected using observation sheets, digital weight scales, height using a longboard, and hemoglobin levels using the Easy Touch Kit. The measurement of learning achievement uses the average score of student education reports based on the minimum completeness criteria (CCM) set by the school with the requirements of good (B), enough (C), and less (K). The research data analysis used a chi-square test and prevalence ratio with a confidence level (95%). Results: The results showed that anemia in adolescent girls was 67.6%. There was an association between learning achievement and anemia (?=0.034) and PR value = 0.79, 95% CI 0.00 to 1.52. There was no association between body mass index and anemia (?=0.49) and PR value = 0.54, 95% CI 0.08 to 3.7. Conclusion: The study concluded that the percentage of anemia in adolescent girls was 67.6% and was categorized as a severe public health problem. Teenage girls who are anemic have a risk of 0.79 times having academic achievement with a grade of C. Students are expected to pay attention to adequate nutritional intake; the school facilitates regular iron supplementation intervention programs and nutrition education for vulnerable students, and health programs are integrated with the educational curriculum, health monitoring, and periodic anemia screening

Abstract

Purpose of the study: This study aims to identify and analyze the types of language style used by characters in Elysium, a science-fiction movie directed by Neill Blomkamp. Methodology: This research employed a qualitative descriptive method. The data were obtained from the characters’ utterances in the movie and analyzed using Martin Joos’ theory of language styles, which includes frozen, formal, consultative, casual, and intimate styles. Main Findings: The study found that all five types of language style appear in the movie. Casual style was the most frequently used, especially in conversations between close characters. Frozen and formal styles were used in official or robotic interactions, while consultative styles appeared in semi-formal settings such as workplace discussions. Intimate style was used minimally due to the nature of the film’s plot. Novelty/Originality of this study: This study contributes to sociolinguistic and stylistic analysis by applying Joos’ language style theory to modern cinematic discourse. It highlights the role of context, relationship, and setting in influencing language variation in film.

Abstract

Background: Gestational Weight Gain (GWG) is correlated to the growth and development of foetus and pregnancy outcomes. Probiotics have a positive effect on gestational weight gain. Dadih is a traditional West Sumatra food containing 108 CFU/ml of probiotics. Objectives: This research aimed to investigate the effect of dadih functional bread on gestational weight gain. Methods: This research is a Randomised Controlled Trials (RCT) design with double blinds with a gestational age of 12-20 weeks belonging to 88 pregnant women. The tests for weight balancing scales were used. The data were examined using Independent T-test for difference test and General Liniar Model (GLM) repeated measures, and Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA). Results: The average GWG was significantly 2 kg greater for the intervention group related to the control group (7.3±2.6 kg vs 5.4±3.8 kg). The GWG in the intervention group exceeded the recommended GWG per month. The results indicated that weight gain was difference across the four-time measurements in both groups. There was a significant different in the average GWG among the intervention control and the control group (p-value<0.001). Conclusions: Dadih functional bread supplementation for three months significantly effect the gestational weight gain. Thus, the consumption of the dadih products can be considered when planning the nutrition to advance the nutritional status of pregnant women.

Abstract

Rickets is associated with impaired calcium and phosphate homeostasis, which can lead to short stature and joint deformities. Nutritional rickets results from deficiencies of vitamin D, calcium and phosphate. Vitamin D regulates calcium and phosphorus in the blood, if there is a deficiency of vitamin D it results in inadequate mineralization of osteoid produced by osteoblasts. It is important to ensure adequate vitamin D supplementation in nutritional rickets and rule out vitamin D deficiency in other forms of rickets, which may hinder healing of rickets. Medical rehabilitation can improve functional independence by reducing pain and improving joint mobility, muscle strength, endurance, and gait in rickets patients.
