Abstract

Ecofeminism views that exploitation of nature is directly proportional to men's oppression of women. This study aims to present some forms of nature and women relations contained in the novel Dlumū Lā Tajiffu by Byar Rufael. The data of this research is in the form of sentences from the novel Dlumū Lā Tajiffu related to the relation between nature and women. This research belongs to descriptive qualitative research. The approach applied in this research is the relationship between nature and women from the perspective of ecofeminism. The data collection techniques used include the documentation method with reading and recording techniques, and through two data analysis techniques, namely identification and analysis. The results of this study show that the novel Dlumū Lā Tajiffu by Byar Rufael represents the relationship between nature and women in (1) the depiction of the image of nature and women symbolized as a sacred entity, namely the mother. (2) the oppression of nature and women by patriarchal-capitalists such as As'ad Syahdan makes it difficult for villagers to get water. Keywords: Ecofeminism, Women, Ecology, Ecocritism

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi interaksi sosial yang terdapat pada film series AlRawabi School for Girls Season 2 yang menggunakan pendekatan semiotika oleh Charles Sanders Peirce.Metode yang digunakan ialah metode deskriptif yang menganalisis berdasarkan semiotika. Dalam teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa interaksi sosial pada film series AlRawabi School for Girls Season 2 terdapat interaksi sosial asosiatif dan disosiatif. Interaksi sosial asosiatif terdapat pada adegan 3 dan 4. Sedangkan, interaksi sosial disosiatif terdapat pada adegan 1, 2, 4, 5, dan 6. Simpulan ini menunjukkan interaksi sosial yang terjadi pada film series AlRawabi School for Girls Season 2 ini merupakan representasi kehidupan remaja di sekolah terutama dalam hal perundungan yang sering terjadi di sekolah. Melalui proses disosiatif dan asosiatif, serial ini memberikan gambaran yang mendalam tentang tantangan sosial di sekolah, seperti perundungan, hierarki kekuasaan, solidaritas, dan kerja sama. Kajian ini memberikan pesan moral untuk memahami dan mengelola hubungan sosial demi menciptakan lingkungan yang lebih inklusif dan suportif. Kata Kunci: Film, Interaksi Sosial, Semiotika

Abstract

This research aims to describe the cultural values contained in the film "Najih" by Pondok Pesantren Dalwa. The film Najih tells the story of a young man who is determined and never gives up in his journey to learn Arabic. This research is a qualitative descriptive study that uses the research object in the form of the film "Najih" by Pondok Pesantren Dalwa. This research focuses on the film "Najih" with objects in the form of stills from different scenes in the film. Researchers classify signs based on representation, object and interpreter. Through the analysis applied, a lot of data was found that revealed the cultural values in the film "Najih". These cultural values include elements such as knowledge, belief, art, morality, law, customs, skills and habits. This can be seen from the data presented in the research.

Abstract

This research analyses the social and cultural values in Darin J. Sallam's Farha by examining the relationship between Representament, Object, and Interpretant. The research uses a qualitative paradigm with a Charles Sanders Peirce semiotic analysis approach. Literature study is the method used based on data sources in the form of snippets of dialogue scenes from Farha's film published on the Netflix platform. The formal Object of this research is Charles Sanders Peirce's semiotics and the material Object is Farha Film by Darin J. Sallam. The results and discussion show several representations that can produce several interpretations. The explanation of the interpretation in this film is in the form of social and cultural values based on the theory expressed by Eduard Spranger. In this film, there are at least five social and cultural values consisting of religious, power, solidarity, theoretical, and art or aesthetic values. The various values presented in the film illustrate the setting of this film in Palestine, which at that time was hit by the Nakba Day event. The values in the film are expected to inspire many people, especially in seeing the phenomena in Palestine This research using Charles Sanders Peirce's Semiotics theory only found five social and cultural values and it is hoped that other researchers will continue this research with different theories.Keywords – Farha Film, Palestine, Peirce’s Semiotic,.

Abstract

In an Arabic verb, there are several morphemes that form it. These morphemes are located at the beginning, middle, and end, which are usually called affixes. Affixes have an important role in a word, because the existence of these affixes can affect the meaning. One of the affixes that is often found in an Arabic verb is the affix located at the end (suffix), which functions to determine the subject, including in terms of distinguishing between masculine and feminine. This research aims to present some forms of affixes that exist in fi'il mujarrad in al-Qur'an surah Hud. The data of this research are Arabic words which are fi'il. This research belongs to descriptive qualitative research. The approach applied in this research is affixes on fi'il mujarrad viewed from the perspective of morphology. The data collection technique used is the documentation method with reading and recording techniques, and through two data analysis techniques, namely identification and analysis. The result of this research shows that in al-Qur'an surah Hud there are affixes on fi'il which are influential in (1) translation of fi'il mujarrad (2) formation of fi'il mujarrad (3) determination of subject or actor (4) distinguishing between masculine and feminine or determining gender (5) determination of quantity (6) determination of time (7) Indicators of command and prohibition sentences (8) Indicator of negation sentence . This research provides an overview of the influence of affixes on fi'il mujarrad, as well as providing a deeper understanding of the form and function of affixes in Arabic verbs

Abstract

Mahmoud Darwish, seorang penyair Palestina terkenal, sering menggunakan puisi sebagai medium untuk mengekspresikan pengalaman emosional dan ideologis yang kompleks dari rakyatnya. Salah satu karya paling mencolok dari Darwish adalah syi'ir أحبكِ أو لا أحبكِ yang, melalui ungkapan cinta dan penolakan, mengandung lapisan makna yang kaya. Untuk memahami kedalaman dan nuansa yang tersembunyi dalam teks ini, diperlukan pendekatan analitis yang mampu mengungkap makna yang tidak langsung terlihat. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kualitatif deskriptif dan pendekatan teori semiotika Riffaterre untuk mengeksplorasi makna tersebut. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengungkap makna kompleks dan berlapis-lapis yang terkandung dalam syi'ir tersebut. Analisis ini memanfaatkan konsep-konsep kunci seperti pembcaan heuristik , pembacaan hermaneutik, hipogram , varian , dan model  untuk mengeksplorasi makna tersembunyi di balik ungkapan cinta dan penolakan yang ada dalam teks. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa syi'ir ini tidak hanya berbicara tentang cinta dan penolakan secara literal, tetapi juga mencerminkan konflik emosional dan ideologis yang mendalam. Syi'ir ini mengajak pembaca untuk merenungkan pengalaman hidup di bawah tekanan serta bagaimana perasaan-perasaan yang kontradiktif dapat coexist dalam situasi yang penuh dengan ketidakpastian dan perjuangan. Dengan demikian, penelitian ini memberikan pemahaman yang lebih mendalam tentang kompleksitas makna yang dihadirkan oleh Mahmoud Darwish dalam syi'irnya melalui pendekatan semiotika Riffaterre.

Abstract

The study of denotative and connotative meanings in the Arabic language remains limited, particularly regarding how meanings evolve within social and ideological contexts in films. Most previous research has predominantly focused on semantic analysis without considering the connotative aspects that shape social perceptions and representations. This study aims to analyze the denotative and connotative meanings of selected Arabic words using a qualitative approach through the perspective of Roland Barthes' Semiotics. Data were collected through non-participant observation and note-taking, while analysis was conducted using extralingual referential analysis, employing both comparative and contrastive methods. The findings reveal that words such as قيود, الجحيم, الإيجار, خادمة, and الهارب in the film Capernaum carry connotative meanings that reflect social constraints, suffering, exploitation, oppression, and the loss of identity. This study affirms that language is not merely a tool for communication but also an ideological instrument that represents social realities. This study implies that connotative meaning can enrich linguistic studies and provide deeper insights into language use across various social and cultural contexts.

Abstract

The development of science, technology and culture cause the meaning of a word to change. Word absorption in foreign language also develops over time. This research aims to analyze how the meaning of the word has changed compared to its original meaning in the newspaper Asy-Syarqu Al-Ausath edition Vol. 47. Understanding the changes in the meanings of absorbing words helps prevent ambiguity and supports communication accuracy in the Arabic world. It belongs to descriptive qualitative research. The approach applied in this research is the change of meaning according to Sarwiji Suwandi's view. The data collection technique used listening method followed by documentation technique. Data analysis in this study used intralingual pairing method with the technique of connecting-comparing (HBB). The results of this study show that there are two types of meaning changes, namely (1) generalization or expansion of meaning, for example in the absorption word al-barliman (البرلمان) and (2) specialization or narrowing of meaning as in the absorption word diplomasiyah (الدبلوماسية). Of the two types of meaning changes in the Vol. 47 edition of Asy-Syarqu Al-Ausath newspaper, specialization or narrowing changes in meaning are most often found. So it can be seen that English words absorbed into Arabic tend to experience a process of specialization or narrowing of meaning.Keywords: Loanwords, Change of Meaning, Semantic, Arabic Newspaper

Abstract

This research examines the portrayal of women in Arabian Nights and Days by Naguib Mahfouz through the lens of feminist literary criticism, focusing on the character of Dunyazad. The analysis explores her physical, psychological, and social dimensions, emphasizing how these aspects reflect broader societal perceptions and treatment of women. Employing a qualitative approach, the research utilizes feminist theory to uncover the depiction of Dunyazad and her interactions within the social context of the novel, which mirrors the condition of women in the Arab world. The formal object of this study is feminist literary criticism theory, while the material object is Mahfouz’s novel. The study is confined to analyzing Dunyazad’s character and her relationship with societal norms. Findings reveal that the representation of women in the novel is shaped by three main elements: physical idealization, psychological conflict, and social subordination, all of which are framed by patriarchal structures. Dunyazad’s physical portrayal reinforces the objectification of women, her psychological depiction reflects the inner turmoil of women constrained by social expectations, and her social portrayal underscores the systemic subjugation of women. In conclusion, Mahfouz critiques the societal norms that restrict women’s roles and exposes the persistence of gender inequality within patriarchal societies.

Abstract

This study discusses the representation of bullying in the film From The Ashes by Khalid Fahad through Ferdinand de Saussure's semiotic approach. The focus of this study is how signs in the film, whether through visuals, dialogues, or other symbols, represent bullying and its impact on victims. Qualitative research methods are used to analyze the signs in the film, which consist of two main components: the signifier and the signified. The results of the analysis show that the film uses strong symbolism to depict the dynamics of bullying, including power relations, the powerlessness of victims, and the journey towards recovery. Visual elements such as color, lighting, and facial expressions function as signifiers that strengthen the emotional narrative, while dialogue and storyline form signifiers that convey meaning about bullying. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of how film media can be a reflective medium for social issues such as bullying, while also offering a new perspective in semiotic studies.
