Abstract

DentaI and oraI heaIth of the lndonesian peopIe requires attention from health workers, because dentaI and oraI diseases are in the top ten most common diseases. Gingivitis is one of the most common dentaI and oraI diseases. One of the factors that affect dentaI and oraI heaIth is the level of knowIedge, attitudes and actions of a person to maintain dental and oral health. Knowing the reIationship of knowIedge, attitudes, and actions of dentaI and oraI heaIth on the gingival index of FKG University Jember students batch 2020. analytic observationaI research with cross sectional design. The number of samples is 60 students. Collecting data using a questionnaire regarding oral health behavior and examination of the severity of gingivitis using the gingival index. The data obtained were tabuIated and anaIyzed using the Spearman correlation test. As many as 95% of respondents have good knowledge category, 90% of respondents have good attitude category, 83.33% of respondents have good category of action, and 63.33% of respondents have healthy gingiva. The results of the Spearman correIation test showed that the significance value between variables was Iess than 0.05 (p<0.05), meaning that there was a significant reIationship between knowledge, attitudes, and oraI heaIth practices with the gingival index. There is a significant reIationship between knowIedge, attitudes, and dentaI and oral heaIth actions with the gingival index of FKG University Jember students batch 2020.

Abstract

ABSTRACTIntroduction: Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) and Porphyromonas gingivalis (P. gingivalis) are the two main bacteria that cause dental and oral disease. Cacao leaves have been reported to have antibacterial properties. However, the active compounds in cacao leaves vary depending on the age of the leaves and the place where these plants grow. This research aims to analyze the active ingredients and antibacterial effectiveness of the Edel varieties cacao leaves against S. aureus and P. gingivalis. Methods: This is an experimental study. The Cacao leaves from PTPN 12 Plantation Banjarsari Jember were extracted by the maceration technique in concentrations of 25, 50, 75%, and 100%. The  phytochemical test was then made using the Thin Layer Chromatography (TLC). The antibacterial activity of Cacao leaf extract against S. aureus ATCC 25923 and P. gingivalis ATCC 33277 was examined using the Disc Diffusion technique on Mueller Hinton Agar (MHA) media. Results: The Cacao leaf extract of the Edel varieties from Jember contained flavonoids, saponins, and tannins but did not contain alkaloids. In all concentrations tested, the Cacao leafmextract of the Edel varieties from Jember showed the inhibition zones of S. aureus and P. gingivalis. The concentration of 100% showed the greatest antibacterial activity (The highest antibacterial activity was observed at a concentration of 100%), which was moderate against S. aureus (10.98 mm ± 0,93) and strong against P. gingivalis (11.54 mm ± 0,41). There was a significant difference among concentrations in both the P.gingivalis and S.aureus bacterial groups (p < 0.001). At the same concentration, there was no significant difference between P. gingivalis and S. aureus (p > 0.001). Conclusion: Cacao leaf  extract of the Edel varieties contains flavonoids, saponins and tannins and has antibacterial activity against S. aureus and P. gingivalis.

Abstract

Background: Periodontal disease is a dental and oral health problem that is often experienced by the elderly. Aging affects the ability of the elderly to carry out their daily activities, including cleaning the oral cavity. Increased accumulation of calculus due to poor oral hygiene can lead to the incidence of periodontal disease which affects the quality of life of the elderly. Purpose: to examine the status of oral hygiene and the need for periodontal tissue care in the elderly in the Pesisir Puger and Payangan area, Jember Regency. Methods: Descriptive observational with a cross-sectional approach. Subjects were selected as many as 192 elderly by purposive sampling technique. Data were obtained by taking questionnaires and clinical examinations in the form of OHI-S and CPITN. Results: the majority of elderly in the Pesisir Puger area of Jember district have a poor oral hygiene status of 96.88% and , the condition of the periodontal tissue has a 4-5 mm periodontal pocket of 66.67% and the need for periodontal tissue treatment is in the form of oral hygiene instructions and SRP procedures of 96.88%. Conclusion: Majority of the elderly in Pesisir Puger and Payangan have poor oral hygiene and require periodontal tissue treatment in the form of oral hygiene instructions and scaling and root planing procedures

Abstract

The prevalence of stunting in Jember remains high, with Arjasa being one of the areas with significant incidence rates. The 2019 nutritional status estimate report for toddlers showed that one of village in Jember namely Arjasa had a high prevalence of stunting, at 44.1% of 663 children. Existing research indicates that Arjasa has a family stunting risk level based on maternal factors of 85.90%. These maternal factors include low maternal knowledge about nutrition and the ability to provide nutritious food during the first 1000 days of life. Therefore, this community service aims to educate mothers and prospective mothers in Arjasa on the importance of optimizing nutrition during the first 1000 days of life. The methods used include educating young women on healthy mother preparation, socializing stunting and its detection to Arjasa's posyandu cadres, socializing healthy 1000 HPK nutrition to pregnant women's communities, and developing local MSMEs. All activities went smoothly with each target event being attended. Post-test results showed an increase in knowledge and understanding of target subjects after providing the material. The activity received positive responses from village officials and Arjasa's posyandu, and was well-received by the local community. The community's knowledge related to stunting and improving 1000 HPK nutrition began to increase, but in practice, it still needed to cover all branch posyandu in Arjasa. In the future, it is expected that there will be more adequate facilities and infrastructure to cover more target subjects.

Abstract

Introduction: Porphyromonas gingivalis growth should be prevented to minimise inflammation in periodontal tissues. Antibacterial herbs need to be considered because there are side effects caused by synthetic antibacterial drugs. Namnam (Cynometra cauliflora L.) leaves are known for having antibacterial effects. The purpose of this research was analysing the inhibition potential, and the highest inhibition concentration of namnam leaves extract on the growth of Porphyromonas gingivalis. Methods: 24 samples were divided into 6 groups. The positive control group was given 0.2% chlorhexidine, and the treatment group was given various concentrations (100%, 80%, 60%, 40%, and 20%) of namnam leaves extract. The disc which spilled by various concentrations of namnam leaves extracts and 0.2% chlorhexidine was placed on a medium which has been inoculated by P. gingivalis, then incubated at 37ºC for 48 hours. The inhibition zone was measured using a vernier calliper. Results: The concentration of 100% had the highest average inhibition zone value, which was 11.43 mm. The content in namnam leaves extracts which serve as antibacterial were tannins, flavonoids, triterpenoids, saponins and quinones. Conclusion: Namnam leaves extract can inhibit the growth of P. gingivalis. 100% of namnam leaves extract has the highest antibacterial inhibition zone.Keywords: Antibacterial, Namnam leaves extract, periodontal disease, Porphyromonas gingivalis

Abstract

Kerusakan tulang alveolar akibat periodontitis memiliki prevalensi tertinggi di Indonesia. Pencegahan kerusakan tulang alveolar dapat dilakukan dengan terapi regenerasi periodontal. Desain scaffold telah menjadi fokus utama untuk regenerasi jaringan tulang. Bovine teeth scaffold berukuran nanopartikel saat ini sedang dikembangkan sebagai solusi untuk mengatasi keterbatasan scaffold berukuran mikro. Scaffold harus memiliki karakteristik tertentu yang mendukung pertumbuhan dan diferensiasi sel untuk regenerasi jaringan periodontal yang dapat diketahui melalui uji karakterisasi X-ray diffraction. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui karakterisasi bovine teeth scaffold dalam bentuk nanopartikel melalui uji X-ray diffraction (XRD) untuk terapi periodontitis. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif kuantitatif untuk mendeskripsikan karakterisasi bovine teeth scaffold dalam bentuk nanopartikel dan data dianalisis secara deskriptif dengan tabel, kurva, dan nilai persentase. Hasil uji XRD menunjukkan bahwa terdapat dua fasa yang terdeteksi, yaitu hidroksiapatit dan whitlockite. Puncak-puncak difraksi hidroksiapatit muncul pada sudut difraksi 2θ sebesar 25,82˚; 31,67˚; 33,91˚; 49,33˚; 50,30˚ dengan puncak tertinggi pada sudut difraksi 31,67˚. Puncak-puncak difraksi whitlockite muncul pada sudut difraksi 2θ sebesar 28,86˚; 32,72˚; 39,58˚; 46,56˚ dengan puncak tertinggi pada sudut difraksi 32,72˚. Grafik menunjukkan pola difraksi sempit, tinggi, dan tajam yang mengindikasikan bahwa bovine teeth scaffold memiliki struktur kristal. Bovine teeth scaffold dalam bentuk nanopartikel mengandung 65% Hidroksiapatit (Ca10(PO4)6OH) dan 35% Whitlockite (Ca10NaMg(PO4)6(CO3) (OH)3). Karakterisasi bovine teeth scaffold dalam bentuk nanopartikel dengan menggunakan uji XRD diperoleh fasa hidroksiapatit sebesar 65% dan fasa whitlockite sebesar 35%.

Abstract

Hubungan karakteristik responden, perilaku kesehatan gigi dan mulut dengan status kebersihan rongga mulut lansia di kawasan pertambangan kapur: studi cross-sectionalABSTRAK Pendahuluan: Lansia merupakan kelompok berisiko dengan masalah kesehatan. Masalah kesehatan gigi dan mulut yang sering ditemukan pada lansia berkaitan dengan kebersihan rongga mulut yang buruk, yang dapat menimbulkan penyakit periodontal. Masalah periodontal berdampak pada kualitas hidup lansia. Kawasan pertambangan kapur merupakan wilayah yang kaya mineral, yang dapat memengaruhi kandungan mineral saliva dan berkaitan dengan pembentukan plak dan kalkulus.. Penelitian bertujuan menganalisis hubungan karakteristik responden, perilaku kesehatan gigi dan mulut dengan status kebersihan rongga mulut pada lansia di lingkungan sekitar pertambangan kapur. Metode: Jenis penelitian cross-sectional. Pengambilan sampel pada penelitian menggunakan Slovin, jumlah sampel minimal 96 orang. Sampel diambil secara purposive sampling dan didapatkan 125 lansia. teknik pengambilan data menggunakan kuesioner karakteristik responden dan perilaku kesehatan gigi dan mulut serta status kebersihan rongga mulut (indeks OHI-S). Data analisis menggunakan Uji chi-square. Hasil: Status kebersihan rongga mulut lansia tergolong buruk yaitu 110 orang (88,0%), Uji chi-square didapatkan hasil signifikan dengan karakteristik responden adalah pendidikan terakhir, dan faktor perilaku kesehatan gigi dan mulut dengan status kebersihan rongga mulut yang signifikan adalah frekuensi, ketepatan waktu menyikat gigi, kunjungan ke dokter gigi, kebiasaan merokok setiap hari, dan sumber air (p<0,05). Simpulan: Terdapat hubungan antara status kebersihan rongga mulut lansia di kawasan pertambangan kapur dengan karakteristik responden di tingkat pendidikan dan  terdapat hubungan dengan perilaku kesehatan gigi dan mulut pada perilaku frekuensi, ketepatan waktu menyikat gigi, kunjungan ke dokter gigi, kebiasaan merokok setiap hari, dan sumber air. Kata kunci lansia, pertambangan kapur, kebersihan rongga mulut The relationship of the respondent characteristics, oral health behaviors and oral hygiene of the elderly in the limestone mining area: cross-sectional study ABSTRACTIntroduction: The elderly are a risk group with health problems. Limestone mining areas are rich in minerals, which can affect the mineral content of saliva and are related to plaque and calculus formation in the oral cavity. This study aims to analyze the relationship between respondent characteristics, oral health behaviors, and oral hygiene of the elderly in the limestone mining area. Methods: This study is a cross-sectional study. Based on the Slovin formula, a minimum sample size of 96 people was obtained. Samples were taken using purposive sampling, and 125 elderly people were involved in this research. Questionnaires on respondent characteristics and oral health behavior were given to the respondents, and an examination of oral hygiene status using the OHI-S index was carried out on respondents. The chi-square test was carried out in this study. Results: The majority of older people's oral hygiene status was classified as poor, namely 110 people (88.0%). The Chi-Square test showed a significant relationship between respondent characteristics, namely levels of education, oral health behaviors, including frequency of brushing teeth, timeliness of brushing teeth, visits to the doctor, smoking, and water sources, and oral hygiene of the elderly (p<0.05). Abstract

Pendahuluan: Kebersihan gigi dan mulut merupakan kondisi rongga mulut termasuk gigi geligi dan jaringan pendukungnya dalam keadaan bersih, bebas dari kotoran seperti debris, plak dan kalkulus. Penumpukan sisa makanan di permukaan gigi yang dibiarkan akan berkembang menjadi plak dan kalkulus yang dapat mengiritasi gingiva sehingga menyebabkan peradangan pada jaringan gusi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis korelasi tingkat kebersihan gigi dan mulut dengan status kesehatan gusi pada siswa Sekolah Dasar. Metode: Jenis penelitian observasional analitik dengan desain penelitian cross-sectional study. Subjek penelitian adalah siswa kelas 5 dan 6 SDN 1 Meninting Kabupaten Lombok Barat dengan metode cluster random sampling. Data penelitian diambil dengan mengukur tingkat kebersihan gigi dan mulut menggunakan OHI-S (Oral Hygiene Index Simplified) dan status kesehatan gusi menggunakan MGI (Modified Gingival Index) yang dilakukan pada 87 subjek penelitian. Data tersebut dianalisis dengan uji korelasi Spearman. Hasil: Sebagian besar subjek memiliki tingkat kebersihan gigi dan mulut yang baik dan peradangan gusi yang rendah. Uji korelasi Spearman menunjukkan nilai signifikansi 0,000 (p<0,01) dengan nilai r= 0,539 yang berarti terdapat hubungan yang kuat antara tingkat kebersihan gigi dan mulut dengan status kesehatan gusi. Simpulan: Terdapat korelasi yang kuat antara tingkat kebersihan gigi dan mulut dengan status kesehatan gusi yakni semakin buruk tingkat kebersihan gigi dan mulut maka status kesehatan gusi juga semakin buruk karena kebersihan gigi dan mulut yang buruk dapat menyebabkan timbulnya plak. Plak yang menempel di permukaan gigi dan tidak rutin dibersihkan akan termineralisasi dan menyebabkan inflamasi pada gusi.The correlation between the level of oral hygiene and gingival status in students of elementary school: a cross-sectional studyIntroduction: Dental and oral hygiene refers to the condition of the oral cavity, including the teeth and their supporting tissues, in a clean state and free from impurities such as debris, plaque and calculus. The accumulation of food debris on the tooth surface that is left unattended can develop into plaque and calculus which may irritate the gingiva and cause inflammation of the gingival tissue. This research aims to analyze the correlation between the level of oral hygiene and gingival status in students, West Lombok Regency. Methods: this was an analytic observational study with cross-sectional design. The research subjects were 5th and 6th grade students, selected using a cluster random sampling method. Data were collected by measuring the level of oral hygiene using OHI-S (Oral Hygiene Index Simplified) and gingival status using MGI (Modified Gingival Index) in 87 subjects. The data were analyzed with the Spearman correlation test. Results: Most subjects had a good level of oral hygiene and low levels of gingival inflammation. The Spearman correlation test showed a significance value of 0.000 (p<0.05) with a value of r=0.533, indicating a strong correlation between the level of oral hygiene and gingival status. Conclusion: There is a strong correlation between the level of oral hygiene and gingival status. The poorer the level of oral hygiene, the poorer the gingival health status, because inadequate oral hygiene can lead to plaque accumulation. Plaque that adheres to the tooth surface and is not routinely removed will mineralize and cause inflammation of the gingiva.

Abstract

Pendahuluan: Pasta gigi bermanfaat dalam upaya kontrol plak secara mekanis sehingga berperan dalam mencegah penyakit periodontal. Produk pasta gigi ekstrak biji kopi robusta dalam pasta gigi harus memenuhi Standar Nasional Indonesia (SNI) 8861:2020, diantaranya cemaran logam berat, Timbal (Pb), Cadmium (Cd), Raksa (Hg) dan Arsen (As)  dapat mengganggu kesehatan tubuh manusia. Belum ada informasi tentang adanya cemaran logam berat dalam pasta gigi ekstrak biji kopi robusta. Tujuan penelitian mengkaji kesesuaian cemaran Pb, Cd, Hg dan As dalam pasta gigi ekstrak biji kopi robusta dengan standar SNI 8861:2020. Metode: Jenis penelitian ini eksperimental laboratoris dengan sampel pasta gigi ekstrak biji kopi robusta dengan konsentrasi 0,0625%, 0,125%, 0,25%, dan 0,5% serta plasebo. Pembuatan ekstrak biji kopi robusta menggunakan metode maserasi. Pembuatan pasta gigi plasebo dengan kandungan magnesium karbonat, kalsium karbonat, gliserin, propilen glikol, trietanolamin, oleum menthae piperithae, dan aquades steril. Pembuatan pasta gigi ekstrak biji kopi robusta dengan cara mencampur bahan pasta gigi plasebo dengan ekstrak biji kopi robusta 0,0625%, 0,125%, 0,25%, dan 0,5%. Selanjutnya dilakukan uji Pb, Cd, Hg dan As dengan menggunakan metode spektrofotometri serapan atom. Hasil: Kadar Pb pada kontrol negatif 1,382 dan  perlakuan 1,687–1,846. Kadar Cd pada kontrol negatif 0,240 dan perlakuan 0,216–0,239. Kadar Hg dan As pada semua kelompok 0. Seluruh kadar logam masih di bawah batas cemaran. Simpulan: Terdapat cemaran logam berat Pb dan Cd pada pasta gigi ekstrak biji kopi robusta dibawah batas maksimal berdasarkan SNI 8861:2020.Analysis of the compliance of heavy metal contamination in robusta coffee bean extract toothpaste based on the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) 8861:2020: an experimental laboratory studyIntroduction: Toothpaste plays an important role in mechanical plaque control and in preventing periodontal disease. Natural ingredients, including robusta coffee beans, have been used in toothpaste formulations. Toothpaste products containing robusta coffee bean extract must meet the Indonesian National Standard (SNI) 8861:2020, which includes provisions on heavy metal contamination (Pb, Cd, Hg, and As) that can affect human health. To date, there is no information available regarding the presence of heavy metal contamination in robusta coffee bean extract toothpaste. The purpose of the study was to evaluate the compliance of Pb, Cd, Hg and As contamination levels in robusta coffee bean extract toothpaste with the SNI 8861:2020 standard. Method: This study employed an experimental laboratory design using samples of robusta coffee bean extract toothpaste with concentrations of 0.0625%, 0.125%, 0.25%, and 0.5%, as well as a placebo. The robusta coffee bean extract was prepared using the maceration method. The placebo toothpaste was composed of magnesium carbonate, calcium carbonate, glycerin, propylene glycol, triethanolamine, oleum menthae piperitae, and sterile distilled water. The robusta coffee bean extract toothpaste was made by mixing the placebo base with the extract at concentrations of 0.0625%, 0.125%, 0.25%, and 0.5%. Subsequently, tests for Pb, Cd, Hg, and As contamination were carried out using atomic absorption spectrophotometry (AAS). Result: Pb levels in the negative control  group were 1.382,  while those in treatment groups ranged from 1.687 to 1.846. Cd levels in the negative control were 0.240, and in the treatment groups ranged from 0.216 to 0.239. Hg and As levels in all groups were 0. All measured levels of heavy metals remained below the contamination limits set by SNI 8861:2020. Conclusion: The findings showed the presence of Pb and Cd contamination in robusta coffee bean extract toothpaste. However, all concentrations were below the maximum permissible limits established in SNI 8861:2020.
