Abstract

This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Student Teams Achievement Division (STAD) cooperative learning model in improving students’ conceptual understanding of biology at the senior high school level. The research was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Tempel, Yogyakarta, Indonesia, using a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest approach. A total of 32 students from class X MIA 2 participated in the study. Data were collected using multiple-choice tests administered through the Quizizz platform to measure students’ comprehension before and after the implementation of the STAD model. The normalized gain score analysis showed an average value of 0.407, indicating a medium level of effectiveness. Statistical testing using a single mean Z-test confirmed that the posttest results significantly improved compared to the pretest. The findings demonstrate that the STAD cooperative learning model promotes active participation, collaboration, and critical thinking among students, leading to better conceptual mastery. This research highlights the pedagogical value of cooperative learning strategies such as STAD in fostering meaningful and engaging science learning experiences in secondary education.

Abstract

Brushing teeth properly and correctly must be instilled in children from an early age so that they become accustomed to living a clean and healthy lifestyle. Dental health education can help people develop good brushing habits. Brushing your teeth in the morning and evening for 21 days is an interactive calendar designed to control the implementation of brushing your teeth in the morning and evening. The objective of this study was to assess PAUD (Pre-School) students' compliance with morning and night toothbrushing using an interactive calendar guide to brushing their teeth in the morning and evening for 21 days. The research method used is pre-experimental. Simple random sampling method was also administered. The research intervention was conducted on 32 PAUD Bahagia Sukapura and Al Abror students. A questionnaire and an interactive calendar sheet were used as research instruments. The results showed that before the intervention, the average score of PAUD children's compliance with brushing their teeth in the morning and evening was 46.9063, but after the intervention, it increased to 79.0313. Before the intervention, the level of adherence to brushing teeth in the morning and evening was in the less compliant category (40.6%), but after the intervention with an interactive calendar, it increased to (96.9%). The Wilcoxon Sign Rank Test analysis revealed a difference in pre- and post-intervention scores on children's compliance data in brushing their teeth using the morning and evening brushing calendar for 21 days, with a p-value (0.000) <0.05. Brushing their teeth twice a day in the morning and evening for 21 days is effective in increasing PAUD children's adherence to brushing their teeth twice a day in the morning and evening.

Abstract

Trismus is a complication that often occurs after odontectomy. Heat therapy is a common treatment to reduce inflammation and pain due to trismus. Dental and oral therapists have an important role in providing post-surgical care, including the application of heat therapy. This case report aims to describe the process of dental and oral health care for Mrs. AF with post-odontectomy trismus treated with heat therapy. This research is a case report with the concept of dental and oral health care which consists of the process of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation for Mrs. FA clients. The patient showed a reduction in the incidence of trismus from 2.5 cm to 3.5 cm after being given heat therapy using a hot-pack and physiotherapy. Clients are given hot-packs and compressed for about 15 minutes 3 times a day for 1 week. Patients also report decreased pain and are able to perform oral care independently with proper technique. Heat therapy can be an effective option in reducing the symptoms of post-odontectomy trismus. Dental and oral health care that includes health education can improve the patient's quality of life.
