Abstract

Abstract

This article aims to identify the regeneration process undertaken by the Laras Budaya Karawitan Art Group in Bligo Village, Ngluwar, Magelang Regency, Central Java. Traditional arts such as karawitan should ideally be utilised to preserve this musical heritage. Karawitan is a traditional music performance involving the use of gamelan instruments. The Laras Budaya Karawitan Art Group, established in 1976 and led by Temu Riyadi, represents this musical tradition in Bligo Village. The regeneration of members within this art group has significantly contributed to preserving karawitan in Bligo Village. Data collection was focused on research needs and employed qualitative techniques. A qualitative methodology was used to explain the phenomena under study comprehensively. Based on observations and research conducted, it was found that the regeneration process by the Laras Budaya Karawitan Art Group has been successful. This is evidenced by the forming a karawitan group of youth from Bligo Village aged 18 to 25. The regeneration was carried out through training sessions directly supervised by Indonesian Institute of the Arts (ISI) Yogyakarta students. The training method employed in this regeneration process was the demonstration method, enabling the youth to grasp the material effectively.

Abstract

Traditional arts are increasingly being eroded and people are no longer interested in them. What a shame it is for the nation's next generation to only use sophisticated technology, without knowing the function of technology. So you won't get anything. Like today's children who continue to play with gadgets and reduce social interaction in society. So revitalization measures are needed to re-learn traditional arts. In particular, for children, revitalization of traditional arts will be provided through the performing arts Dolanan Anak Iringan Gejog Lesung. With this performing art, people of all ages, from children to adults, can enjoy it. This performing art is a traditional art from the Bantul Regency area, and this art was developed by the Langgeng Budoyo Art Studio. From the revitalization process carried out by the studio, new innovations in education can emerge. Initially, the studio only trained dance, but now it can train all three fields of art, namely drama, dance and music. So that the extinction and erosion of traditional arts can be prevented by children's interest in art and having aesthetic experiences that become provisions for social life.

Abstract

Abstract This study investigates the hierarchical structure and tonal system inherent in the "mantra nyaru" chants performed during the asyeik ritual in Kerinci, employing a generative analytical approach based on the Generative Theory of Tonal Music (GTTM). The research integrates qualitative methods—through participatory observations and interviews with ritual practitioners—with quantitative techniques involving digital transcription analysis to identify grouping structures, metrical frameworks, time-span reduction, and prolongational reduction within the musical compositions. Findings reveal that although the mantra is an orally transmitted and seemingly spontaneous expression, it possesses a complex musical architecture marked by a dominant right-branch formation where clear tonal tensions and resolutions are discernible. These results underscore the structural coherence that underpins the musical mechanisms of the Kerinci tradition and provide a promising foundation for comparative studies and the development of analytical models aimed at enhancing the preservation of traditional culture.
