Abstract

Assistance in constructing the "Kucing Condromowo" mascot for the 2023 East Java Provincial Sports Week (PORPROV) in Mojokerto City integrates local historical, cultural, and semiotic values. The selection process employed the concept of "Endemic Spirit," emphasizing native animals and cultural symbols representative of the region's identity. The cat, rooted in historical and cultural significance, was chosen for its agility, a trait reflecting athletic excellence. The name "Kucing Condromowo" embodies the philosophical and historical narrative of Mojokerto's traditions. The mascot design incorporates elements such as Iket Sambang blangkon, symbolizing self-control and remembrance, and the Surya Mojopahit necklace, which reflects Mojokerto’s historical ties to the Majapahit Kingdom. Additional design features like the patterned Sulur Gringsing cloth and color symbolism of the "telon" cat (white, yellow, red, and black) convey values of purity, ambition, resilience, and balance. This mascot transcends its role as an event symbol to serve as an emblem of regional pride and identity, aligning with PORPROV’s mission to celebrate sportsmanship and promote local culture. The initiative also emphasizes preserving Mojokerto’s traditional crafts and introducing them to future generations.

Abstract

Some families strive to maintain open communication and support their children. Cultural and social factors also influence parental decisions, with some families viewing child labor as a reasonable economic contribution. The impact of child labor on family relationships varies, ranging from increased conflict to stronger bonds formed through shared struggles. This research highlights the importance of holistic interventions that are sensitive to the socio-cultural context in addressing child labor. Programs are needed to empower families economically, strengthen communication, and foster relationships to create an environment that supports the healthy and prosperous development of children. The study aims to understand the dynamics of communication within families whose children are involved in child labor in Balong Cangkring 2, Mojokerto. Using a case study analysis method, the results show that communication in child labor families involves making promises to their children about things they desire, which mothers use to persuade their children to work as instructed. At times, they also convey the family’s economic hardships that must be addressed through the employment of their children.

Abstract

The concept of intercultural communication competence (ICC) has become increasingly important in both formal and informal language learning contexts. ICC refers to the ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse cultural, linguistic, and normative backgrounds. Despite its significance, there is a gap in the literature regarding the assessment of ICC, particularly in the context of Indonesian teachers. The  aim of this study is to assess the level of ICC among pre-service teachers in Indonesia. The study involved 66 randomly selected participants from three Indonesian private universities. Data were collected using a valid and reliable questionnaire and analyzed through descriptive statistics and a one-way ANOVA test, with normality as a prerequisite. The results revealed that pre-service teachers exhibited a high level of ICC, with strong intercultural attitudes, knowledge, and skills. Furthermore, no significant differences were found based on the universities attended, indicating that the institution did not influence ICC levels. These findings underscore the importance of assessing ICC in pre-service teachers and suggest that they are well-equipped to engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds in language learning contexts. The study highlights the need for further exploration of ICC in educational settings.

Abstract

This community service initiative aims to empower women-managed Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in Mojokerto, Indonesia, by improving their digital marketing communication skills through the practical application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools. Despite their crucial contribution to the economy, many women entrepreneurs face barriers in adopting digital technologies, which limits their market reach and business growth. Through a collaboration with the Mojokerto Cooperative Office and the Gerakan Majapahit Muda, supported by Microsoft and the Ministry of Digital Communications, the program trained 45 women entrepreneurs using a community-based participatory approach. A tailored three-day AI training module introduced tools such as ChatGPT, Canva, and WhatsApp Bots, followed by a two-month online mentorship. Results showed significant improvements in AI literacy, marketing content quality, customer engagement, and business performance. Notably, social media interactions and online product orders increased, with several entrepreneurs reporting up to 30% sales growth. The program also fostered peer learning and collective support among participants. While challenges such as limited internet access and resistance to technology were encountered, they were mitigated through inclusive teaching strategies. The project demonstrates the transformative potential of AI training in enabling inclusive, sustainable development for women entrepreneurs in semi-urban areas.
