Abstract

Introduction: Alveolar osteitis is the most common complication after tooth extraction, which occurs 2 to 4 days after and causes disruption of wound healing. Pucuk Bungur/Queen’s crepe myrtle  (Lagerstroemia speciosa) and aloe vera have biological and pharmacological benefits in experimental animals: antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant. They also affect the wound healing process.  These benefits are a good combination as an alternative remedy for alveolar osteitis treatment. This study was aimed to analyse the effect of Lagerstroemia speciosa compared to aloe vera extracts gel on the wound healing process after tooth extraction in Sprague-Dawley mice with alveolar osteitis. Methods:  This research was an experimental laboratory. Twenty-seven Sprague-Dawley mice were randomly divided into three groups. The first group was the osteitis (control) group treated with 1:1000 adrenaline insertion for 1 minute on the left maxillary first molars socket; the second group was the osteitis group administered with the application of Lagerstroemia speciosa, and the third group was the osteitis group administered with the application of aloe vera gel. Normal mice in the control group were not given any treatment, only osteitis mice. The interleukin-6 level was examined after, and the number of osteoblasts was also calculated on the 3rd, 5th and 14th day after the necropsy was performed. Data were analysed with one-way ANOVA to compare the effectiveness of wound healing of alveolar osteitis in each group. Results: From the data analysis, the osteitis group applied with  Lagerstroemia speciosa gel had good activity in the inflammation phase of the healing process of alveolar osteitis compared to other groups. Conclusion: Lagerstroemia speciosa can be a potential alternative treatment to reduce inflammation and accelerate the healing of osteitis because it shortens the inflammatory phase and accelerates collagen production in wound healing.

Abstract

Introduction: Fibroblast Growth Factor-2 (FGF-2) have a role in stimulating the proliferation and migration of various types of cells in the wound healing process. Hyperglycemic conditions can disrupt the wound healing process. Lagerstroemia speciosa are known to have antyphyerglycemic and antioxidant effects. Aloe vera is a plant that has been used for long time in topical treatment of wounds. This study was aimed to analyse the FGF-2 after application of Queen's crepe-myrtle leaf (Lagerstroemia speciosa) and aloe vera extracts gel in the wound healing process of hyperglycemia. Methods: A pure experimental study was conducted with simple random sampling. The sample was 27 experimental animals (CI 95%; power test 80%) of Sprague Dawley rat induced to have a hyperglycemic state using alloxan and had their palate injured. The immunohistochemical examination was performed to assess FGF-2 expression level. Samples were divided into three groups with a simple random sampling technique: nine of the rats received the Lagerstroemia speciosa extract gel application; nine rats received the aloe vera extract gel application on the injured palate; another nine rats in the control group. Examination of the FGF-2 expression level was performed on the third, seventh, and fourteenth observation days. Results: Overall, the control group had a significant difference with the Lagerstroemia speciosa and aloe vera extract gel group (p-value<0.05), however, the Lagerstroemia speciosa group did not have any significant difference with the aloe vera group (0.123>0.05). Conclusion: There was no difference in the amount of FGF-2 expressions on the wound healing process of the injured palatal tissue of Sprague-Dawley rats with hyperglycemic after application of the Lagerstroemia speciosa and aloe vera extract gel.

Abstract

Unicystic ameloblastoma is a type of ameloblastoma that often occurs at a young age. Unicystic ameloblastoma can occur due to neoplastic transformation from an odontogenic cyst to an odontogenic tumor, ameloblastic transformation of reduced enamel epithelium from developing teeth, or cystic degeneration of solid ameloblastoma. However, there is no convincing evidence has yet been found for each proposed pathogenesis. This study aims to determine the development of etiology and pathogenesis of unicystic ameloblastoma based on the analysis of the results of histopathological examination. This study aims to determine the development of etiology and pathogenesis of unicystic ameloblastoma based on the analysis of the results of histopathological examination. The study was conducted using a systematic review method through searching journals on PubMed, Google Scholar and Scopus using keywords. In the initial search, 1109 journals were obtained, which were then selected based on inclusion criteria, namely English-language journals published in 2017-2020, indexed in Scopus, and relating to the etiology and pathogenesis of unicystic ameloblastoma based on the analysis of the results of histopathological examination, so that 16 journals were obtained. Etiology of the unicystic ameloblastoma has not undergone renewal, and the currently known pathogenesis of the unicystic ameloblastoma is molecular pathogenesis, namely where the development of odontogenic lesions occurs due to pathogenic gene mutations that affect the signaling pathway. The mutation that often occurs is the BRAF V600E mutation which is included in the MAPK signaling pathway.

Abstract

Background: Osteoma is benign bone tumors are often found in skeletal bones. These tumors can involve any bone, but usually involve the long bones. The affected bone is generally prominent and clinically visible. This tumor is treated with surgery to remove the tumor mass. The cause of osteoma is unclear, but generally accepted theories are related to embryology, trauma, or infection. Objective: This case reports a osteoma peripheral type in the lingual of right lower jaw and and discuss according to the literature and several other similar cases. Case Report: A 37 years old man with chief complaint swelling in the posterior region right lower jaw for 16 years without pain, fever or any symptom. Case management: Panoramic radiograph and provisional diagnosis was made before surgery. Surgical excision was previously conducted under general anesthesia. Six months after surgery, the patient is in good health. Conclusion: Peripheral osteoma at the lingual surface of the right lower jaw be can be surgically treated well and do not show recurrence.

Abstract

ABSTRACTIntroduction: Dental implants are a treatment aimed at restoring the function and aesthetics of teeth in the oral cavity. They must have stable integrity in the local bone where they are placed. Sinus lift vertical approach without bone graft is a procedure that can be used to place dental implants in cases of maxillary atrophy. The objective is to map the available evidence regarding the success of dental implant placement using the sinus lift vertical approach without bone graft. Methods: This study was conducted using a scoping review method in accordance with PRISMA-ScR (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analytic for Scoping Review) based on predetermined inclusion and exclusion criteria. Articles were obtained from three databases, namely PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane focusing on randomized controlled/clinical trial (RCT) study designs published between 2014 and 2023.  The analyzed data included the year of publication, study design, number of patients, patient characteristics, implant length, follow-up duration, lifting technique, outcome measurement method, implant survival rate, bone height gain, other success indicators, and complications. Results: Nine articles were included in the review (six two-group RCTs and three three-group RCTs). The results showed a high implant survival rate, ranging from 94.1%-100% and bone height gain up to 4.1 ± 1.0 mm. Reported complications included mucositis and perforation of the mucous membrane. Conclusion: The sinus lift vertical approach without bone graft can be a valid technique and provides good results for dental implant placement in atrophic maxillary conditions requiring bone height gain of less than 4 mm.KEYWORDS: dental implants, sinus lift vertical approach, bone grafting, bone height gain, implant survivalTingkat keberhasilan pemasangan implan gigi dengan teknik sinus lift vertical approach tanpa menggunakan bone graft: Scoping reviewABSTRAKPendahuluan: Implan gigi merupakan perawatan yang berfungsi untuk mengembalikan fungsi dan estetik gigi di dalam rongga mulut.  Implan gigi harus memiliki integritas yang stabil pada tulang lokal tempat implan gigi dipasang.
